  • Now that the interior is wrapped up, I decided to focus a bit on the exterior of the 2003 VW beetle. We had a few more suspension issues to include the a wheel bearing and inner tie rod as well as the thermostat. Visually it was time to do the wheels. I had found some others modifying the stock 16" steel wheels to fit the classic VW chrome hub caps, so that is the route I went. I also decided on new headlights and it all is coming together really nicely!

Great. I used a deck of cards pushed in the bead and sprayed away. Saves on tape ... just moved the cards to the next wheel.

I just finished watching all of your restoration videos on the car. I had a Golf that I bought new in 2001 with that same engine. It was a tank! I sold it with 400K miles on it - still ran like a watch. My only question is, did you not do the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump? That's the most important part of maintenance for these cars - if the belt breaks it destroys the engine. If it didn't need it, cool, just wondering if you'd done it. Cool car!
