  • 1:6 scale figures of Nick Brokhausen, Frank Pulley, Robert Sinton, Eldon Bargewell, Ken Bowra, and Billy Waugh from TF1AE (formerly CCN) of MACVSOG at the end of the war.
    John Plaster described the impact that the movie “The Wild Bunch” had on the men at CCC - about violent men deciding to go out in a blaze of glory as their way of life comes to an end. That description stuck with me and I decided to commemorate the recon men at war’s end with that moniker and these pieces.

    @fossildude181 More total excellence! Do you happen to know which volume of Jason Hardy's fine MACV-SOG books that Ted B. Braden is featured in? Looking at Ted's smiling pic from it. He and Billy Waugh and John Plaster all think Ted was DB Cooper. So do I. So does Drew Beeson, who wrote "Paratrooper of Fortune", about Ted. Maybe a Ted figure for the Team Colorado One-Zero, someday? Maybe a DB Cooper figure, too? If Ted ends up in a Quentin Tarantino film. Thank you, Ryan! 🙏

    Another movie that had an effect on the soldiers in Vietnam was Kelly's Heroes. They adopted Oddball's "Charge" yell. A sort of extended Forward Ho.

      Yes. Google Nick Brokhausen. Eldon Bargewell has also been pictured wearing it. For even crazier antics (including stealing a half-track), I’d recommend picking up his books. A stranger example of using German gear was “Operation Stormtrooper” during the Korean War.

    Hi I’ve stared a 1/6 collection being in the U.K. I’d like to learn more about the history and uniforms of Macv sog . Apart from behind the fence and whisky tango are there any good reference books I’ve seen John plasters book Sog . But seen a macv sog book but it’s £144 by Jason hardy there see: to be a lot of them any advice on reference books 📚

    • @fossildude181
      @fossildude181  Před rokem +1

      Jason Hardy’s books are the best photo references you can get, but Plaster’s photo book is quite good and affordable. You might try looking up the folks at ModernForces.com - they are British reenactors specializing in SOG and quite knowledgeable.

    • @pauldeegan6652
      @pauldeegan6652 Před rokem +1

      While Jason Hardy’s books are peerless on this subject, there are more economical ways into appreciating the uniforms and mission loads of the Recon teams. Two modestly priced books, both published by Osprey Publishing, can serve as good starting points for this. ‘US Army Special Forces 1952-84’ and ‘US MACV-SOG Reconnaissance Team in Vietnam’, both authored by Gordon L. Rottman, are little goldmines regarding this area. In particular, the colour plates and the Plate commentaries in the first book, are a very good primer. For example: in this video fossildude mentions ‘spray painted OG fatigues’. These are described very well by Mr Rottman, a former SF NCO himself, who has a succinct but wide-ranging writing style that is reminiscent of Joe Friday’s maxim “the facts Ma’am, just the facts”. If you are interested in the SOG knives, there is a volume, published by Schiffer Publishing, entitled ‘SOG Knives, and more from America’s War in Southeast Asia’, which I found available from an eBay vendor, at a discount. In addition to first rate photos and descriptions of the SOG knife varieties, this book also features terrific colour photos of Randall knives, worn-in-country berets and other contemporaneous Vietnam ephemera

      It was something Nick Brokhausen got from his Uncle Otto. He preferred to wear it instead of the US M1 on some heavy missions and loaned it out to other folks, including Eldon Bargewell. There’s a few photos of him wearing it if you Google him.
