    He was a truly great man. At his memorial service, his father told a story of how he picked Shane up from the airport after he'd been on an international tour for months, he hadn't seen his kids in all that time but when his dad told him on the drive home of a sick little boy who idolized him,he said call him up and they went straight there and he spent 2 hours with the little boy. That's the great man that he was.

    I just love watching someone fall in love with the beautiful game.
    As a 32 year old who used to watch Shane Warne as a kid I really didn't realise the level of greatness I was watching. I hated Australia, I hated how dominant they were. I look back now and can't get over just how great that team was. It was perfection!!
    Going back to Warney though. As my homeboy said "that guy was NASTY!!" The guy truly was an ICON!!! I feel so grateful i lived whilst he was in his pomp. And sad that we love in an era of glorified medium pacers impersonating leg spinners like Warne. And that's the other thing about Warne, Murali etc. Nobody appreciates the speed at which he bowled their deliveries. You can used to spin if it's bowled slowly at you. But it's damn near impossible when they're coming at you at 50/60 mph

      As a 33 year old Australian growing up watching that era, i wish i had appreciated the greatness i was able to witness at the time. As kids here we just expected Australia to win every match

    He could spin the ball like no other. He was a leg-spinner, meaning he pitched the ball to the leg side and it would dart back towards to stumps. His variety of grips and releases were extraordinary. An absolute master and all round awesome bloke. I love the utter bewilderment shown by the batsmen ... particularly as they are all good batsmen. His death is still so raw to me. He was so young. RIP Warnie! 💕

    All these batsman are top batsman. Number 3 was dubbed 'Ball of the Century' . It was his very first ball in an Ashes series. This is a series between England and Australia held for over 100 years. There have been 72x Ashes series [usually 5 or 6 games, of 5 days length ] and Australia has won 34, England 32 and 6 have been drawn. So it has a long history and tradition. The English crowd had heard all about Warne for months prior to the game and were chanting repeatedly "Bring on your leggy" , "Bring on your leggy" (meaning leg spin bowler ) as a taunt to the Australian team saying they didn't fear this guy and watch our batsmen take him apart. Well that was his first ball and the rest is history.

    You did a great job of seeing how the ball can drift in the air in the opposite direction of the spin before it hits the pitch - this is caused by the revolutions on the ball in the air, and it is part of what makes the delivery difficult to pick. I also appreciated you standing up and actually seeing how, for a right hander, the huge spin and the fact that it pitches outside of your body position makes it very difficult to hit the ball. Top shelf reaction to a GOAT, well done matey

    that's why us Aussies Love Shane Warne (R.I.P.), sadly he left us in March this year but when he retired he taught the kids how to spin like that. His most famous is called the Flipper , which is the one he invented that destroyed the cricketeting spin bowling career. Australia still has the best coaches though. He invented a new style of bowling which, excuse my french, fucked up everyone's playing style. You saw it the ball would spin in the air then grip the pitch and take off leaving his batsmen shocked. Love what Carmel said below about their utter bewilderment. It's true they took sometimes two or three looks to make sure it was legit.

  • @YobboBear
    @YobboBear Před rokem +2

    You nailed the description of the ball there. Shane bowls it at a certain spot, the spin on the ball causes it to drift out, then when it bounces it comes back the other way.

    As a spin bowler myself shane warne was my bowling hero even though he caused me years of untold misery skittering England everytime he played us. He was unbelievable, there will never be another one like him. If you want to learn more about his bowling I strongly suggest you watch some of his masterclasses where he actually shows you how he bowled his variations of delivery. It is absolutely mind blowing

    Warne was deliberately aiming for the darker brown patches of the pitch in most clips. These are the footmarks left by the faster bowlers. If a spinning ball lands there it could get extra kick and more pronounced turn.

    For the first, the commentator says “bowling wrong un after wrong un”
    A Wrong un is another type of ball that can look similar, so he bowled those u til he was sure the batter was setting himself up for it, then that one came and he was totally out of position.
    It can be done the other way as well, several balls with a large swing, then a wrong un can fool the batter.

    The #3 ball was Shane's first ball in test cricket in England. He was bowling to the England captain, a renowned player of spin bowling, and totally bamboozled him. This ball is widely regarded as international cricket's "Ball of the Century".
