    Thanks. I learned something here. I would have poured the water into the tank and then flushed. No need to do that - just pour the water directly into the toilet bowl. Your explanation makes it clear why this works.

      @@EverydayHomeRepairs Actually, it may be better to pour it into the tank. That way, when press the flush lever, it will come out the spiraled pores and do a more proper "flush" that has a better chance of properly evacuating all the contents down the drain.

    • @tyiu5629
      @tyiu5629 Před 2 lety +7

      @@matt0198922 I agree. After Scott poured the bucket of water into the bowl, you can still see Fruit Loops remaining in the bowl. Alternatively, if you refill the tank and then flush, everything should be cleared out. A flush from the tank will be cleaner for a given amount of water because of the physical design of the toilet (the bowl shape, the water outlets, the swirling action etc.).

    The water to my building is shut off today, and this is super helpful. I have two bathtubs filled with water in preparation for this, and a large bucket. Thank you for explaining how the toilet works and the purpose of the water in the bottom of the bowl. I did not know that was to protect us from toxic sewer gases. That is very good to know.

    Great and very useful info. I did know this however I didn't know the mechanics of it. Makes total sense. I have found that refilling the tank and then flushing as normal works a bit more effectively at removing all the debris rather than dumping it straight into the bowl. Also produces less potential splash.

    • @alexanderslee
      @alexanderslee Před rokem +4

      Exactly. I don’t understand why all the videos surrounding this topic recommend pouring directly into the toilet bowl rather than the tank. Seems like common sense to avoid splashing waste water everywhere.

      Hi Hannah, I wanted to tell you that Jesus loves you and wants you to repent of your sins so He can take care of you, save you from perdition, and have a relationship with you!
      You know, we’re in the last days and Christ is coming back very soon... we’re going to go through the book of Revelation in the very near future, and the Lord has imparted in my spirit that *very very soon* (maybe even this very month!) we will see tribulations come upon our world. There is a horrible famine coming, as well as wars, the plagues of Egypt making a comeback, an internal revolution in America, natural disasters, a fake alien disclosure etc... Jesus wants to protect you from these things and take care of you! So repent of your sins and cry out to Him, believe in faith that He is the Son of God, that He died on the cross as a payment for our transgressions, rose on the third day and ascended to the right hand of the Father. start to read the gospels of Matthew/Mark/Luke and John, and build your relationship with Christ by talking to Him everyday! He truly loves you more than I can put in words, and He shed His precious blood so you don’t have to go to hell. Please accept His free gift of life! God bless you Hannah, lots of love to you 🤍🤍🤍 :))))

    You should do a video on how to stop a toilet that is at immediate risk of overflowing.
    Had this embarrassing situation happen to me once... ripped the lid off the tank INSTANTLY, reached down through the cold tank water, and pushed the "flapper" down by hand to prevent the flow of more water into the bowl.
    The water line in the bowl halted its horrific rise about an inch below the bowl rim. It would have been a mess all over the nice hotel's bathroom floor if it wasn't for my quick thinking. Unfortunately this hotel bathroom in question had no plunger so that had to be sorted out with an embarrassing call to the front desk 🙄

      All you do is turn the water knob behind the toilet off. Left should be off if your toilet is installed correctly. (Don't feel bad. An old roommate of mine described to me how she had just been frantically trying to use a crappy plunger while the water in the bowl was rising).
