- Join me for a typical ostomy change! This is what happens when my stoma doesn't behave during ostomy bag changes and I need to prep my skin multiple times! This was taken a few weeks ago when my incision was still fairly new.
Hi, I'm Maggie and I have Crohn's disease. I am thrilled to be here sharing my personal experiences with Inflammatory Bowel Disease as well as living with an ostomy. I'm proud to share a little bit from a clinical experience as well, having worked as a GI pediatric nurse and ostomy telehealth nurse. I am so glad you are here. ♥ #ibd #crohnsdisease #ostomy

Glad the silicone gel patches are healing your recent insicion. 😊. And yes, it's always helpful to have the supplies prepped ahead of a change. Just in case our ostomies want to misbehave. 😆
I ❤️ you! My fears have calmed after watching you live life, I know I can do it too.
Das ist sehr mutig wie du damit umgehst 👍🏻
I have done this a zillion times and totally feel you. I get courage from your sharing. Thank you.
You're an amazing and courageous woman. Love your videos. Your fun and real! ❤ from NJ.😊
Absolutely love this, as i had an ileostomy for 2 years in 2004 to 2006 following a ruptured appendix. I like what you said about people assuming you didn't wash hands. People like that are some of the worst thinkers lol
Oh my... Sid (my stoma) did this yesterday for the first time. What a state I got in to. Lesson learnt... Preparation first...All the best, from England
Hi, my Stoma is called Sidney lol. I buy Inco sheets ( disposable, waterproof sheets) and tuck one in my waistband. I have all my products for a change on a tray. I always have a bag with everything I need for a change in it, if you've a leak it's quicker to do a change. I was taught to use kitchen roll wet to clean my Stoma and skin when you take your bag off. Instead I buy compressed wipes from Temu. They're softer, stronger and are a handy size to put in your Stoma kit. I use skin cleansing foam with dry wipes, then talc, barrier wipes etc. I use a hairdryer on my seals, it really helps adhesion. Stoma Nurses gave me that wee tip. I've had mine 9 months just. Hi from Northern Ireland 🇬🇧
@@audreygraham235 yeah I was taught to use cleanser and wet paper towels to clean my stoma but honestly that takes too long and I can get it just as clean with baby wipes. I'm severely allergic to adhesives so I have to change as often as every other day. I always take a duffel bag with supplies in it if I'm going to be gone any length of time. After having this for so many years, I can pretty much tell when it's getting ready to spring a leak. I try to change it before that happens.
My dads stoma leaks from the side. He always has to lay down and have my mum change his. It’s so annoying and he has so many leaks through his flange. He has lost all confidence and social activities. I a trying to get him to watch you to give him some hope.
There shouldn’t be constant leaks and he should be able to live his life again. There’s got to be a reason - maybe his outpatient training was not good or the products are poor, or being used incorrectly. Maybe there’s an issue with the stoma that needs to be addressed. I really hope your dad gets the help he needs and is able to live comfortably again ❤
As already said by the other person. That constant leeks are a sign that there is something wrong . Maybe you have the wrong product. You should get your dad to a stomatherapeut. They are specifically trained for those problems and will help you find the reasons why the bag leeks. You can even contact special websites of the company that distribute the products as Coloplast or Dansac.
@@EllePole yes unfortunately something happened during the surgery but the head surgeon refuses to even look at it. He claims he didn’t do it. It’s a training hospital so we think maybe a training surgeon caused the leak. When he has no bag on, the stoma constantly leaks from the side. Hence why he can’t change it himself. He has to lay completely flat and mum packs it with absorbent wadding and changes it as quick as she can. Due to the constant leak it often leaks through the sticky flange. If dad does outside work or sits for a while it creates a crevice where the urine leaks. Very annoying. Even more annoying when the folks constantly question the surgeon and get rude responses.
I have a nightmare of a stoma, diagonal, flush on the output side and in my chub crease. its been 3 months and I am just starting to get a seal for a day+. There are alot of special flanges(conical) and sizes, and seals, convex barrier rings. They all helped alot. no external leaks, only internal at the 1day+ mark so far. I hope he is working it out. Best wishes.
3 Marshmallows injested 20 minutes before a bag change slows stoma output just long enough to complete a bag change with no volcano 😅 Imodium also can give you similar results 😉
I'll have to try that
@@marjoriebegue8420 Generic Imodium is way cheaper at Costco (Kirkland brand). It's just as good and saves me literally hundreds of dollars per year. It really helps a person who needs to take it 3 or 4 times per day.
When output is an issue, fold a single sheet of toilet paper in half then wrap your stoma from the base (next to skin) long ways with the rectangle. It should look like a tube. Change if needed. You can even apply the barrier spray with no problems. Remove when it's time to put on the new barrier. Hope someone finds this helpful. Game changer for me.
Brave, brave lady!
Can relate. Thank you for sharing; Helpful information as well as helping to take the stigma out of stoma.❤
What belly you have beside the ostomy pads!😳
Never knew this…
Much strength!🙏
I have this issue. My stoma shoots like a water gun. Sometimes I use half a roll of toilet paper
Thanks, it's nice to know that I'm not the only one 😢
@@katiea7101 I totally understand. I've had my ostomy since 1997
Oh my... Great lecture
How often do you do this ostomy-change process? I’m (clearly) clueless about all of this, however, I somehow came across your content - which spurred my curiosity. I’m interested to learn ( just for the sake of learning something new), and am looking forward to watching your friendly and informative content. ☺️
In general, most are usually changed every few days, but they need to be emptied a few times a day or wherever they start to get full.
I change mine every 3 days, but mine is a velcro close open and clean out resealable pouch. Some people change pouches every time.
@@marjoriebegue8420unfortunately I'm a person who can sometimes go through over 20 changes in just one weekend
I need that healing tape. My ostomy has changed so much this year from not going a lot to constant diarrhea. That will protect my skin. Tfs this. ❤
❤And I love your Puppy's.
GOD 🙏 BLESS YOU 🙏 ALWAYS AN FOR EVER 🙏❤️🙏 YOU ARE A VERY SMART 🤓💙 YOUNG 🌱 WOMEN. YOU MAKE ALL THIS LOOK EASY 👍🤗🙏 AMEN 🙏
This is a good idea but when your bowels start shooting out, it will drench one sheet
Super helpful to learn! Thanks for being someone to talk about your stoma care, period, and intersection around like uber cleanliness needed post surgery on an adjacent site .
I do not have a stoma and this is just a good practical thing to know! Often worried about skin care around stomas because of the repeated/consistent contact with adhesives. Skin barrier, I'm LEARNING😂. How much do you find that genuinely mitigates soreness? (answer only if it's not an annoying question)
It gets itchy sometimes. The skin needs to be cleaned thoroughly when changing the flange. Then skin barrier (powder or spray) before applying the new flange. Skin irritation can be a real issue for ostomy wearers.
Is this temporary? You are an inspiration. All the best to you❤.
Mine is actually permanent!
I've had mine for going on 28 years and I still have an awful time at times with the stoma behaving.
I learned the flange was causing more issues with the bag staying on, so since they sent us bags that are the perfect size for his ostomy, so I said forget that flange. We did a test. Without the flange his bag stayed on for 9 days. Now we don't keep it on that long, cuz he needs to shower 🚿 but it will still last a good long time. Ty again for sharing your experience. I have tumors in uterine and ex-uterine. How did you know you have a problem with a flop is tube? I'm scared to go for the biopsy so I can have the hysterectomy and I want it done so bad and I haven't had a period for almost 2 yrs this August, so I know I've been Thu menopause. I'm moody, hot, cold, ugh❣️👍🏼
How do you swim with an ostomy bag or is it just something that you don’t have on when you swim?
You definitely need to wear your ostomy flanges and bags while swimming.
@@katiea7101plus the bags come with a filter sticker to close the filter so it doesn’t fill with water!
It sucks that it's so inconvenient
Is it just me or does corn and peas hurt coming out? My dr asked me what do you eat when you have a diarrhea, I said bananas
She asked me what I do when I’m constipated I said applesauce.
Corn was a big no-no for me, also nuts, anything with a skin like grapes, raisins etc.
They told me it could cause a blockage and the only solution is surgery so I was pretty careful.
Yes occasionally. Ironically the BRAT diet, banana, rice, applesauce and toast are what alot of people use to slow output down. Another trick I've learned over the past couple of years is marshmallows especially as you are doing an appliance change.
@kul793 I know that I rarely eat corn and other foods for fear of a blockage as well. Normal people wouldn't believe all the things that we no longer are able to totally able to break down
❤ My Girl❤ STRONG/ Beautiful and Amazing
Love your channel. You're full of great info.
I doing have a stoma but I love anything Medical and informative 😊
What is this please tell me
survive and thrive...
volcano stoma are no fun...
Especially while trying to have a shower before putting a new bag. It feels like you'll never get a decent shower!
How many times of day do you have to change your bag
I think she said in another video that she changes her bag every 2-3 days, but she empties several times a day, depending on output.
What were your symptoms
What is the flange and bags you use?
Me when I take a bath
Is everything silicone free? For a person has allergies? Was my first question
I'm sorry your having to go through this Especially at such a your ago ❤
Most people just accept it and become accustomed to the time and effort it takes to manage having a stoma. An ostomy patient here in Canada could easily spend 2k or even 3k a year for supplies. It's a big issue for lower income people.
Yeah that is a lot to cover put of pocket. I realize our govement will pay fpr some supplies that are not always adequate which obveously is not fair. Like you havent been elt lready a very difficult card.. You are an inspiration and dont you forget that ✨️ ❤️ I know there are many more our there that wouldn't even admit that have one but I believe our upfront honesty will each the hearts of many to feel more comfortable about having one themselves ❣️ Can only take 1 to make a big change an I believe that to be you
@@kul793I'm there with you. I'm saving my receipts this year to get an idea as to how much I'm having to spend on supplies this year. My doctors office has tried repeatedly to get my insurance to approve more changes. My stoma is less than 1 inch from my belly button
Do you still have to cut them ?
What is the name of your skin barrier?
🙏🙏🙏
Hii i havw a stoma o git it 3 weeks ago and bmbc i had a oppersition bc i had my vowl ripped i was impale and i might have it for life or not
