Traditional Tres leches Cake or Three Milk Cake

- Hi and welcome back! Today I made for you a classic Hispanic dessert, tres leches cakes. It takes a bit of patience, but in the end it's an amazing dessert!
Here are the ingredients:
1 cup Cake flour
1-1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
1/4 teaspoon Salt
5 whole Eggs, Separated
1 cup Sugar, Divided (3/4 cup and 1/4 cup)

1/3 cup Milk
1 can Evaporated Milk
1 can Sweetened, Condensed Milk
1/4 cup Heavy Cream
For the whipped cream topping:
1 pint(2 cups) Heavy whipping cream
3 Tablespoons Sugar

I did this tres leche cake for my parent's anniversary on Saturday. I was able to do it as a layered cake using 3- 8" pans. I only added baking spray with flour and parchment paper in the pan so I could flip it easier (didn't want to take any chances of it breaking). Then I added strawberry filling and covered it with the whipped topping from this recipe (had to make 2 batches of the topping to cover it completely which I also did small flowers with a wilton tip. I have never decorated a cake before let alone tried to do layers. It came out awesome!!! Everyone loved it and thought I had bought the cake. Very moist!
Made sure to use a plate that was deep so it will catch all the milk that slowly dripped off the cake. Also made sure to keep it in the fridge as long as possible before the party.

This is the best of them all; I have made it before and I will make it again this Friday, my son asked me if I could make him one for him to take it to the office because everyone is bringing something, and I can’t wait to make it. I'm a 14 year old student taking culinary classes in my high school and this was my first big cake recipe that I've tried for Mother's Day. It came out great!!! When I was at school my bro was begging me to come with him because he wanted to buy me this "three milk cake" (there is a cooking class which makes food you can buy on Thursdays during lunch) and I kept saying no because it sounded disgusting to me and I got really annoyed and finally just said fine.... Just made this, didn’t change a thing and it was DELICIOUS!!! I made Alton Brown’s version and it was too dense and WAY too sweet. This cake is light and airy, the tres leches are perfectly rich and sweet, and the whipped cream topping is rich with just the right amount of sugar.

Delicious!! I’ve made this cake twice this week! Also some people have asked about the baking powder-I searched a bit but couldn’t find an answer so I just added the
1 1/2 teaspoon as written & it was fine. My oven baked this in 25 min. Next future attempt will be to make it double layered in two 9in round molds. Any ideas welcome. Thanks for the video!

I've made this recipe over 40 times after the first 3 times I started to separate eggs right away placed my egg whites back into the fridge and left the yemas to be room temp. makes it much easier for the egg whites to whip up properly. Love this recipe! i can never find a plsce nesr me thst makes tres leches without fresas. im allergic so when ibhad a hankerin i had to buy a whole cake which costed over 45 bux and i couldnt eat it all myself. thank you!

This cake is def not known in Holland and I saw so many good things about it, I just had to try it! I just finished making the cake, had to put some fresh strawberries on it and let me tell you it is SO FREAKING GOOD. This is my new favorite cake, definitly try it everyone!!! It is SO worth the effort.

very good. You can try, if you want, using powdered sugar instead of regular sugar and a little vanilla to the whipping cream. I make my with coconut milk too because I just love coconut.

Oh my goodness!! I made this cake yesterday for a friend 's birthday. She always loves to have the Tres leches cake when in Mexico so I thought I would try to find a recipe so that I could make it for her. You gave me the perfect one, thank you! I tried this recipe two nights ago for a bake sale we did at work. I have to say not only does the recipe result in a beautiful and delicious cake, I also gave my mother a slice to try and now she's asked me to bake her one just for herself! haha It turned out so well. Hi Ida, glad I found your site. I have made Tres Leches Cake before which we loved but I can tell I'm going to like yours better. A few questions though. What are the ounces on the can of condensed milk and the sweetened condensed milk, also is it 1 tsp or 11/2 tsp of baking powder. Planning on making it for my Mom's B-Day next week. Thanks

Psss...if you haven't already tried this you really should. It was my sister's birthday a few weeks back and she's a bartender so I took this recipe and where the milk gets poured in to get soaked up I used your coquito recipe and poured that in its place it was such a major hit, she loved it and now I'm getting requests from my other family members to make it a standard must bring to our parties. :)

The cake came out super delicious !!! i made it for my husband on tuesday for his birthday and everyone loved it , i did have a few little problems , like trying to make the whites fluffy and the whipping cream was comming out good until i noticedthat it was looking more like cottage cheese , good thing i bought two pints of whipping cream 😉 .. Anyway thank you so much for the recipe WE LOVED IT!!!
daniela blanco Make sure to wipe down your beaters with vinegar then rinse them, to take any residual grease that they could have. If the cream looked like cottage cheese, you turned the cream into butter. I hope this helps for the next time!
