    My parents are both atheists, so I was raised atheist. Now I resent them for it; atheism and hyper-rationality only served to isolate me and made me slip into nihilism and bitterness, I believed in immoral things because I was told morality did not exist. Today, I don’t belong anywhere.
    I can only hope one day God will speak to me. ❤

      If you're an American or were raised in a hyper-christian community I get why you'd potentially feel isolated, but your parents told you morality didn't exist, or that objective morality didn't exist? Never heard any atheist say ''Morality doesn't exist so go do whatever.''

    • @thetwelfth9987
      @thetwelfth9987 Před měsícem +14

      @@razark9 i kept it very simple but you’re correct, what I meant was that all my life I had been surrounded by people telling me morality is just something people made up, so they tended to treat it quite frivolously, like since it’s just a social construct, it is fluid, ‘improvable’, and it can be subjective. If there’s apparently an exception that makes the rule for every case, then you can justify horrible things; if the people have monopoly on morality, they will become selfish. I don’t believe morality is mostly subjective anymore, I’ve seen where it goes.

      I recommend you go watch cliff knechtel. He is an American pastor for Christianity who try’s to use logic and reason to show why the Christian faith is the way to salvation. I was raised Christian but never really understood until I saw him speak, everything he said made perfect sense and rather than shut people down for questions he encouraged them. Questioning faith will not discredit religion but bring you closer to god. Jesus loves you and wants you to open your heart to him. And you do belong somewhere, you were created because you were wanted and you have infinite value.

      Churches via the investment in universities kickstarted science; Islam did the same until the Mongol invasions began and Baghdad got torched, then everything went to shit when Islam turned radical and forbade the "questioning" of Allah, which was a major driver of the learned people of that era (see for example Algebra). In the West the Soyence subverted the mostly Catholic universities and kickstarted the lunacies we have seen come out in the last century.

    • @DrBustdown66
      @DrBustdown66 Před 2 měsíci +46

      The Church had a heavy hand when it came to the start of modern science. The church is essentially what started what we know of as modern science. For example Kepler (the founder of modern astronomy)was a devout Christian. Many educational institutions were started by Christians such as Yale and Harvard. The idea that Christianity and Science contradict each other is simply false.

    I have done the level 1-2-3 from Atheism, funnily enough.
    1) Believed (because that is truly what Atheism asks of you) the Atheistic principles and genesis-story.
    2) Realized I had no reason to fully believe what Atheism claimed, that it itself was cultish, turned Agnostic and figured the question of whether God existed or not was obsolete for me.
    3) Realized the importance of Religion as a common standpoint for values, morals and culture of a civilization, and that ideologies simply flourished in the vacuum of Religion to replace them. Espoused Christian ethics/mindset despite lacking belief.

    • @razark9
      @razark9 Před měsícem

      1) ''because that is truly what Atheism asks of you'' It is not. Atheism has nothing to do with ''believing'' in any principles or ''genesis-stories''. It's a lack of belief in gods. That's it.
      2) It doesn't claim anything. It's not a claim. It's a lack of conviction in a claim. And agnosticism isn't mutually exclusive to atheism. Most atheists are also agnostic.
      3) You don't need religion to have values, morals or culture.
      You have no idea what atheism is, what the word means or what most atheists think as there's no real unity of thought. Your misconceptions about them comes from christian misinformation almost guaranteed so for that reason I don't think you were ever an atheist.

    27 minutes in something occurred in my brain that didn't occur previously
    Regarding this degeneracy that seems to be on the rise - the overwhelming majority of it takes place online
    This tells me that there is something in the human condition that acts as a stopgap for in-person degeneracy
    It's either shame, guilt, or a simple narcissistic fear of repercussions
    It's quite likely that this 'thing' is what shaped religions' moral compasses

    • @skwills1629
      @skwills1629 Před 8 měsíci +12

      Yes and No. The Real Problem is, We Pretend Religion is This Thing that exists independent of Reality and Independent of Us, Our Observations of the World, and that is Not Scientific or Philosophical. In Reality, Religion and Philosophy are the Same Thing and Religion is Based Upon Observed Reality. Religion is not "Based on", Our Lived Experiences, so much as it is Our Experiences and Observations and History. The Very Concept of Religion We Use in the West Only Began in The 1500's. I am Not saying "People did not believe in any gods before the 1500's", but the Idea that beleif in God is different than Beleif that other People Exists, or Rocks Exist, it is simply Something You Understood was Real. The Idea of Religion as a Personally Helded yet Communal Beleif System is itself Wholly the Product of Western Culture and of The Protestant Reformation and The Rise of Nationalism.
      The Real Problem is, We pretend there is This Thing called Religion that Exists Outside of Us and is All About Only The Supernatural even as We Admit it is about Morals in The Real World and that has No Connection to Us, when it is Us. Those Who Say They Have No Religion Create THeir Own Mythologies and Narratigves and it is just another Religion. Secular Huimanism is a Religion and even use to Admit that, just Read THe Humanist Manifesto 1. People can't Escape Religion since Religion is Not Something that was Created and is Not External to us, it is Emergent in Our COnsciousness and is SImply the Philosophical Understanding We Hold of Our World.
      Also, the Shame and GUilt that Stops Degeneracy is Not Native to Humanity. It is Because the Deeply Engrained Christian Morality has Not Really been Completely Vanquished. But WSe see More and More Out and Proud Degerneracy in Real Life as well, such as Drag Queen Story Hour, or a Desire to have Sex Marches Pubolically in California, or even Removing Pedophilia as a Crime.
      Once completley Eroded from its Christian Basis, We Won;t have a Utopia. We Will have Moral Degeneracy.

      Those things exist regardless of religion shame,gulit,and fear of repercussions are socially developed phenomenon that exists as an ingroup regulation of members this isn't something that religion invented it exist before religion it just that religions adapt and also those are just horrible ways of setting up a moral system that could easily be abused shame can be used as away to discriminate against certain people group in society like women for example and also what is this rise of degeneracy ? alot of people thrown around the word degeneracy whenever to describe something they don't like and it can vary from person to person especially considering that person personal beliefs and ideology so the question is asked what degeneracy ? what is this specific degeneracy ? what is the nature of this degeneracy ? what exactly do you mean by degeneracy ?

      As a former Atheist, I would not have hung around long without finding the Lord. I was barely hanging on right when I cried out to the Lord, begging him to help me, if he was real, that is.
      Which, he is. He is most certainly real, and he is Soo good. Without Christ, id be carrying everything myself still. Every single mistake, embarrassment, painful memory, everything in life. Id still be knowing that something was very wrong, but having no idea what it was, so I was aimlessly trying anything to fix this thing that felt soo wrong. I now know what it is and that feeling is no longer with me.
      He put it all on the line for a damned sinner that didn't deserve it like me. He did that for ALL of us. I owe him everything. Thank you Lord, for everything in life. Good and bad. Everything.
      Life isn't perfect and I still have problems, and still struggle at times in life. But the Lord is there, he listens, and I know there is more than just this. I have a purpose, I have a future, I have hope, and I have faith. I never had any of those before. Because before the Lord I saw no future, had no hope, had no purpose except whatever I came up with, nothing made me happy, never had hope, and just lived as my own god.
      How cold, miserable, and lonely that was.
      And that's how I lived for most of my life. Too strong and too prideful to come to God, yet soo miserable, broken and cold inside.

    P.S. Jung had an idea about christian and anti-christian eras. The anti-christian would be characterised by what we see now - materialism and so on. He believed it was a mistake to see them as foes, and they ought to be unified halves of a whole. Similar to the idea of thesis, anti-thesis, synthesis.
    Question then being: what is the synthesis of Christianity and atheism? What do they have in common?

    • @ianbaez1998
      @ianbaez1998 Před 8 měsíci +9

      Hope I'm not intruding in this space by attempting to answer the question.
      If I were to guess what a synthesis between "atheism" and "Christianity" would look like, I bet it would be akin to a "Self-aware Myth." That is to say, a post-atheist Christianity would reject literalism without plunging into fictionalism.
      In other words, the Christian myths would be seen for what they are--stories which are not literally true but which are transcendently true. This version of Christianity would have to successfully convince modern atheists that the nature of Ultimately Reality is not amenable to reason/rationality, but is rather best captured and understood only when intuition, emotion and paradox are embraced. As such, Christianity wouldn't have to claim to be literally true, to nonetheless be a useful vehicle for communicating otherwise ineffable insights into the nature of Ultimate Reality.
      Of course, in order for such a successful synthesis to occur atheists would have to abandon their dogmatic materialism/realism, and embrace a more idealist metaphysics.

    To the Education point at 20:00, I would add that it wasn't just that scientists were Christians, but that monks, ie people who dedicated their life to God, were the "scientists" of society. There was no other group that filled that niche. Take something as "sciency" as evolution. There was a monk, who lived sometime in 1000 ad, who theorized just that. That animals and people would change in response to environment. And so on and so forth. And this confluence between science and religion is not new, before Christianity arrived in Europe, the Ancient Greeks were searching for how the universe was made and came up with the Logos as the force that created the universe. Now anyone familiar with Christianity, will recognize this word. While people deride this part of Ancient Greek culture as "just philosophy" it was very much religious and became the reason for why Christianity spread so quickly amongst the Greeks.

      @@miguelatkinson I believe in God as he is classically defined in the monotheistic tradition: as the "Ground of Being" and/or as "Being-itself."
      God is not a being among beings, but is rather the very essence of being itself. Another way to put it: God is the timeless, spaceless pure consciousness which is the eternal witness of all and is, in fact, identical with all things.

    Another comment of thoughts after I watched the video to it's end/conclusion. While religion has been important for molding the identity of the modern civilization I highly doubt it is really the bedrock in most cases and if people would stop being religious, It won't necessarily cause chaos, disorder and collapse. I believe that some sort of ideology/belief system is an important component in creating and defining civilization, society and it's institution, however, if civilization survives long enough, has open minded society or has contact with other civilizations, with some combination of these factors, it is inevitable that older belief system will be replaced at some point and norms, society and it's traditions will shift according to the new system. Even if suddenly the main religion of a certain civilization stops being relevant, that doesn't mean that people will eat each other alive and become hedonistic demons causing civilizational collapse, not necessarily at least, it just means that people and civilization as a whole will have to find a new answer to the questions older ideology/belief system tried to solve. Yes that might be struggle and might take time to sort things out, but that doesn't mean you should just blindly support old system and refuse to try to improve and adapt. Just because the environment in which a plant lives and develops shifts for example from a sunny and dry climate to a cold and dry climate doesn't mean that plant adopted for previous environment will die, in fact, it might be even better off than before. Same applies for any other civilization which isn't fundamentally flawed in some way and struggles from outside pressures before the change.
    So basically, I would disagree that the religion is the bedrock of a civilization, it is more like a blueprint to civilization which dictates how the structure will be built upon, and while change and even absence of coherent blueprint for some time isn't necessarily fatal, it also has to keep purpose of the older version in mind and what purpose it serves and what problems it aims to solve and how those problems could be approached differently and in a better manner.
    I would also disagree with your 3 levels of civilizational understanding as there are more core mindsets to be had and it is more of a spectrum in reality.
    There is also level of understanding which rejects religion itself but keeps the moral code, societal norms and worldview as prescribed by the religion.

    Europe was at its weakest during the height of Christendom: when the Catholic Church held sway over most of Europe during the Crusades. In a time of such unity Spain was an Emirate and the original heartland of Christendom [Near Asia/Middle East] had been thoroughly converted to Islam. Europe began to recover after Christendom splintered into two factions and reached an apex of power when secularism began to appear during the Enlightenment. The empires of Britain, France, Portugal, and Spain began in the latter half of Christian dominion, yet continued relatively fine despite overall secularization. The more religious Spanish and Portuguese Empires fell much more rapidly than the secular French and British empires.
    By the 1800s, when the very foundation of Biblical belief was being analyzed and critiqued, Europe controlled most of the world. It was only after the revival of Christianity and its byproducts in the 1900s that Europe regressed to being prey for Turks, Arabs and Africans as it was when the Churches of Rome and Constantinople guided it.

    For well over 300 years (ever since Newton vs Leibniz) we have defined 0 and 1 (also their geometric counterparts) as follows:
    0 = not-necessary
    0D = not-necessary
    1 = necessary
    1D = necessary
    (Newton won so above are his definitions. Newton conflated "natural" with "necessary" and was largely ignorant of Geometry.)
    A year ago quantum physics proved that Leibniz was actually correct (the universe is "not locally real") which looks like this:
    0 = necessary
    0D = necessary
    1 = not-necessary
    1D = not-necessary
    Since Mathematics > Physics > Chemistry > Biology... the implications of the definitions of 0 and 1 changing are world altering...
    Zero is the most important number in mathematics and is both a real and an imaginary number with a horizon through it.
    It's geometric counterpart zero-dimensional space is the most important dimension in physics and is both a real and an imaginary dimension with an event horizon through it.
    Quarks are zero-dimensional color-charged electricity and the Monad is the zero-dimensional space binding our quarks together with the strong force; the hue-monad (or soul). Read Leibniz's Monadology 📖.
    Black holes are ten-dimensional:
    Zero is the only number with a horizon through it.
    Zero-dimensional space is the only dimension with an event horizon through it (1D-9D are nonzero dimensions).
    So, has to include a 0. Got it.
    0 and 10 are the first two times we encounter zero in the natural number system (1-9 are nonzero numbers). Their geometric counterparts 0D (quantum) and 10D (cosmological) would then be the event horizon boundaries of this side of the mirror universe.
    Check out NASA's mirror universe theory they've had it since the 1950s but could'nt actually release it until a year ago since it counters Einstein's relativity ( 3+1 space-time where 0 is not-necessary).
    0D monad
    1D, 2D, 3D are spatial (space) dimensions
    1D line
    2D width
    3D height
    4D, 5D, 6D are temporal (time) dimensions
    4D length
    5D breadth
    6D depth
    7D, 8D, 9D are spectral (energy) dimensions
    7D continuous
    8D emission
    9D absorption
    10D black hole
    The other side of the event horizon at the zero-of yourself (near horizon) is God.
    The other side of the event horizon of a black hole (far horizon) is not God.
    Theology is Theos and Logos. That's El and Elohim.
    El "alone" is on the other side of the event horizon at the zero-of yourself. Elohim "singularity" is on this side of the event horizon through the two sides of 0D.
    Elohim "singularity" is how we see God from this side.
    (the event horizon stops us from seeing El)
    That's the Holy Trinity just imagine an event horizon between Theos (top of pyramid) and Logos (bottom of pyramid).
    Genesis 1 Elohim (Father and Son "who are one") and Ruach Elohim (Holy Spirit) is the best possible hue-monad (soul). Quantum singularity.
    They created the two types of quarks which this entire contingent and less real side of the mirror universe is made of: two down, one up (male) and two up, one down (female).
    Genesis 2 is a cosmological plurality named Yah Tsebaoth (Yaldabaoth) and that's our true enemy. He's playing all sides against one another and claiming to be God but he has no titles just his dumbass names and epithets (nicknames).
    Amos 5
    Names of God Bible
    27 I will send you into exile beyond Damascus, says Yahweh, whose name is Elohe Tsebaoth.
    Amos 5
    King James Version
    27 Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, whose name is The God of hosts.
    OT:
    Genesis 1 Elohim is a title.
    Genesis 2 Yahweh Elohim is a name.
    NT:
    Christ is a title.
    Jesus Christ is a name (this is Yahweh Elohim from Genesis 2 all over again, faking like he's God, twisting the message...).
    Quran:
    Ilah is a title.

      [Monad in philosophy/cosmogony]:
      Monad (from Greek μονάς monas, "singularity" in turn from μόνος monos, "alone") refers, in cosmogony, to the Supreme Being, divinity or the sum "I AM" of all things.
      The concept was reportedly conceived by the Pythagoreans and may refer variously to a single source acting alone, or to an indivisible origin, or to both.
      The concept was later adopted by other philosophers, such as Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, who referred to the Monad as an *elementary particle.*
      It had a *geometric counterpart,* which was debated and discussed contemporaneously by the same groups of people.
      [In this speculative scenario, let's consider Leibniz's *Monad,* from the philosophical work "The Monadology", as an abstract representation of *the zero-dimensional space that binds quarks together* using the strong nuclear force]:
      1) Indivisibility and Unity: Monads, as indivisible entities, mirror the nature of quarks, which are deemed elementary and indivisible particles in our theoretical context. Just as monads possess unity and indivisibility, quarks are unified in their interactions through the strong force.
      2) Interconnectedness: Leibniz's monads are interconnected, each reflecting the entire universe from its own perspective. In a parallel manner, the interconnectedness of quarks through the strong force could be metaphorically represented by the interplay of monads, forming a web that holds particles together.
      3) Inherent Properties: Just as monads possess inherent perceptions and appetitions, quarks could be thought of as having intrinsic properties like color charge, reflecting the inherent qualities of monads and influencing their interactions.
      4) Harmony: The concept of monads contributing to universal harmony resonates with the idea that the strong nuclear force maintains harmony within atomic nuclei by counteracting the electromagnetic repulsion between protons, allowing for the stability of matter.
      5) Pre-established Harmony: Monads' pre-established harmony aligns with the idea that the strong force was pre-designed to ensure stable interactions among quarks, orchestrating their behavior in a way that parallels the harmony envisaged by Leibniz.
      6) Non-Mechanical Interaction: Monads interact non-mechanically, mirroring the non-mechanical interactions of quarks through gluon exchange. This connection might be seen as a metaphorical reflection of the intricacies of quark-gluon dynamics.
      7) Holism: The holistic perspective of monads could symbolize how quarks, like the monads' interconnections, contribute holistically to the structure and behavior of particles through the strong force interactions.
      [Monad in mathematics, science and technology]:
      Monad (biology), a historical term for a simple unicellular organism
      Monad (category theory), a construction in category theory
      Monad (functional programming), functional programming constructs that capture various notions of computation
      Monad (homological algebra), a 3-term complex
      Monad (nonstandard analysis), the set of points infinitesimally close to a given point

    If you want a country where the Enlightenment never really happened, and religion is allowed to do what it wishes, you have a number of choices. I would start with Saudi Arabia, and see how you get on there. Good luck, you will need it!

      Then there's Iran which became a theocracy which saw quality of life decrease, freedom of expression decreased and there was political repression and media became strictly controlled, the economy sank and the country saw a massive ''brain drain'' where scientists and other professionals left the country affecting things like education, healthcare and technology. This could happen in christian countries too. In fact you could compare the dark ages with Iran's descent into theocracy. This is what you get when religions are mixed with state and given full control.

      @@razark9Religions didn’t have full control in Medieval Europe. Medieval Europe was a power struggle between four main groups, the Crown (Kings and Emperors), the Nobility (Lords and Knights), the Church, and the merchants. The Crown and Church worked together, but also often found themselves at odds with one another, such as the dispute between the Pope and Holy Roman Emperor, or the dispute between Henry II of England and Archbishop Saint Thomas Becket, which ended in the latter’s murder.
      Unlike the Islamic world, where the religion and state are directly united (Mohammed was a political and military leader as much as he was a religious one), Jesus rarely discussed politics “My Kingdom is not of this world”. As a result, the Church was a largely independent and supranational organization (especially in the West).

      Probably creationism, the atonement, the trinity, and/or the brutality of the biblical God. Those are some of my issues at least

    • @brianjoelbasualdo7436
      @brianjoelbasualdo7436 Před měsícem

      @@DroknarsForge4198 About the trinity, I can add up that the trinity is perfectly coherent logically.
      There is no contradiction in the trinity, neither deductively nor inductively.
      We have the presupposition that every ontological entity has to be both in appearance and reality an elemental unit.
      The thing is, this is not a tautology, but a contingency. There is no logical contradiction. It can't be disproven in any way. It is perfectly valid that an onthological entity can be assigned a quantity which isn't one or singleness, and be no contradictions.
      The only problem is our desire to exclude everything that seems counterintuitive to our nature. But that's our problem. Not the Bible's.
      About the brutality of the biblical God, those arguments only and only work when you actively and purposefully ignore the fact that God acts justly. God doesn't enjoy destroying nations, or people.
      When God makes a catastrophe, it isn't him a brutal god. Because God is perfect, flawless, just and good.
      The real optic is learning to read the book properly, and realize that God wasn't a violent animal. But US were, in such a way that humans were SO wicked and evil, that we've left no other option for an all-loving and perfect god, to conclude we had to be destroyed.
      That's the real perspective. It isn't God the evil one here. It's us. We are so bad, that a perfect and flawless being is left with no other option than extreme measures. Neglecting this truth, is admitting oneself is egoistical beyond repair, just as the ones killed.
      And philosophical creationism is actually more believable than you think. It has been proven countless times that radiometric dating and molecular clocks are anything but reliable. Their margin of error is too big, compared to most time-measuring techniques. There are 20+ other dating methods which all have lower margins of error and suggest that earth has around 6000 years. Wether we like it or not.
      And about attonement, people dont understand that when it comes to paying someones debts, good behaviours don't nulify bad behaviours.
      Good actions don't satisfy the damage done by bad actions. You are not supposed to be praised for doing good, thats what you are actually supposed to do in the first place, it's your job, your responsibility.
      This means, the payment of sin, could probably not be additive. This suggests that the methods from one could do justice are either substractive or of another type we still don't understand.
      Even Job understood that humans don't see the big picture, but just a part of it. Just because it appears counterintuitive to oneself, that doesn't mean it is.
      Up until now, while it's a hot topic, theres a big consensus that nobody really knows how attonement works. But, to put it simple, just because you don't know how your car works, that doesn't mean cars are an illusion and don't exist.
      When you humble yourself and see everything through the lense of logic, it becomes quite clear those topics aren't as crazy as they portray them to be.
      I know this comment won't reach the entire internet. But I hope this comment helps you to understand a bit better those topics, which at first glance seem crazy, but when you think of it, academically, rigurously, suddendly they are really sensible. If it helps you, then for me it's enough.
      Bless you and have a good day!

    You hit so many things right on the head. Especially the point of the lacking cultural bedrock. But why on earth should religion be the cultural bedrock? You haven't even seemed to have entertained the idea of having another form of cultural bedrock like collective solidarity, or just anything that doesn't hinge on deeply irrational thinking.

      Anybody who has ever had a class of neurophisiology knows the human mind, the human neural network is basically analogous to a statistical model. This is the human mind naturally works on inductive, associative, statistical-probabiliatical logic.
      This means that association, confidence, security of a certain truth, or "faith" is a core functionality of human nature.
      Computers run on bare metal analogic circuitry, which tries to resemble deductive logic. We just run inductive logic in our bare metal.
      Faith is just a core characteristic of how the human mind works. Everything in your mind, every decision has some sort of faith involved.
