    1) It must be perfect fit

    so instead of randomly putting pieces in, you should’ve test it with those 2 sides instead of randomly cramming pieces

  • @teambellavsteamalice
    @teambellavsteamalice Před rokem +37

    I'd expected a more methodical approach. The biggest piece apparently fits two different ways. Which side doesn't matter, so pick one like the original side and go for the triangle ones. You have two that probably are slightly different. Then check all big piece plus triangle combinations and see which gives the least wiggle room.
    Once you have this, find logical cube combinations. The cube must be connected to at least one side that has the same length. Most combinations make no sense or don't fit another side of the cube.
    Finally find a way to place the cube combination into the space left by the big piece plus snug fitting triangle and find an option to also fit the last piece in there.

  • @thomasstambaugh5181
    @thomasstambaugh5181 Před 6 měsíci +5

    Whether you realized or not, you identified the key to solving the puzzle starting at 2:37 when you noticed that just two pieces have a side that matches the dark square. I suggest that any solution requires that the short side of each of those two pieces must adjoin two faces of the dark square. I'd have to try it myself to know for sure, but I think if you start there and then try to fit the other pieces around it, you'll minimize the number of moves to find each solution.
    It's a little too late in the day for me to get a quick handle on the combinatorics, but I think that the number of ways to align those two pieces with the dark square is an upper limit on the number of solutions. My intuition is that there is only one total solution for each of the simple starting points, but that might be mistaken.

The puzzle you solved now is similar to the Polyomino puzzle games like Tetromino, Pentomino and Hexomino and all these wonderful further ones. These games are gorgeous and fabulous indeed. This works out because the initial shapes don't add up to the total area of the board square. They havr minor angle deficiencies that to the naked eye make it *look* like the puzzle is filled even though it is not. If you measured them then added up their total areas, I would bet it is under by exactly the area of the little square.

    At 2:36 you noticed that the square had the same side length as two other pieces, and at 2:54 you put it in the corner with one of those pieces, but immediately failed to place the other part with a similar length side against the other exposed side of the square. I was just flabbergasted that you didn't make this initial connection and try it out right away.

      The square (cube) must be bordered by pieces on either 2 sides, 3 sides, or 4 sides, and so like you say a more optimal discovery of the solution might be found had he continued with that observation and attempted to fit pieces to the sides of the square (cube) first and into the frame second.
      As for the fitting of all pieces and all pieces plus the square he is right there is ample area distributed in the gaps that more than makes up for the area of the square (cube). They could have made the puzzle frame slightly smaller than it was.

    I actually solved it fast. There are three things that I realized and helped me:
    1. The square is not in the middle
    2. Not on the corner
    3. You have to start with the small square piece, together with the piece that has a same-side length as the square. Because you need to put the square beside to a piece with a matching side for them to fit perfectly. sry for my english

      Of coarse.. but then the video would only be 10 seconds long. Have to make it, at least here in the video, seem difficult.

    LOL how he quickly noticed that the “black” square edge was the same length as one side of two of the pieces but he didn’t try putting both of those sides against the black square piece at the same time. Seems like he intentionally didn’t try this right away in order to draw out solving the puzzle.
