- A romp through several days worth of Border, recorded from the Langholm relay in September 1993. Fill your boots on this mix of trails, ads, announcers, transmitter news and a whole edition of What's On! Not only but also, a reminder of why, despite the fabulous cast, The Brighton Belles was so awful.
It says a lot about the outlook of the two companies that this tiny broadcaster had massively slicker and more professional presentation at this time than Yorkshire-Tyne Tees, an organisation that had just spent two million pounds on what they had described as the most advanced transmission centre in Europe.
Were Border still making their own trails in this era? I know at some point they had an arrangement with Grampian and possibly made trailers for each other. I think they outsourced advertising sales (and ad break playout?) to Granada in the 90s and spent money on beefing up their local pres and image. It certainly shows.
Totally agree...miles better despite the lack of budget.
At about 13:43 you can hear someone say what sounds like “Thomas”. I’m probably mis-hearing it and assume it’s a cue. You can also hear the talkback cues quite clearly at 14:45 when Lookaround has a few issues during its headlines sequence.
