    I have a 2012 FTC also. What I love about it is that it feels no different than driving any other car. Yet you get all that space in the back. I actually live out of mine on road trips.

      @JankyAF  Před 2 lety +1

      Totally agree! Ill never forget the first time i got in this thing to test drive it and feeling like the windshield and space above me just went on forever. FWD is a beast with winter tires, surprisingly good traction, and it just is so darn versatile. Its the spiritual successor to the Ford Aerostar, so shouldn’t be surprising. Enjoy your transit and janky do thanky

    I actually like that first gen style. I got a 2014 from my late step mom. These mini , mini vans are extremely utilitarian. Lots of space on the inside, desent speed but you will feel the wind and they are not good in the snow.

    • @JankyAF
      @JankyAF  Před rokem +1

      Couldn't agree more, the styling has so much more character in the older ones, feels truly european (for better or worse, but I love it) and the practicality in such a small package is unmatched (except for maybe an Aerostar - hehe). Definitely felt the wind, but I have to say with good snow tires I actually had surprisingly good luck in the snow, but admittedly my expectations were pretty low so I guess clearing a low bar. Janky do thanky for the comment.

    I just bought a 2012 FTC and I'm so glad I did. I've camperized it a bit, a camping cot, and small cabinet with drawers. Nothing fancy yet. I'm loving the size too. It goes in on Monday for a coolant leak job which will cost roughtly $750 by the time they do the flush, etc. It had started to overheat badly and luckily I was only about 5 miles from home. It's a great little car!

    • @JankyAF
      @JankyAF  Před rokem +1

      Janky do thanky! Its very funny how the transit is basically a ford focus with a huge windshield and tall roofline. I wish honda and toyota would make a little utility buggy, or if Ford were to bring back the mighty Aerostar, complete with a manual transmission. But I really enjoyed my time with the transit, people had a real fondness for it and it was surprisingly sad to let it go, but eventually the maintenance costs were hard to justify and I ended up trading it in for a Prius, which gets far better mileage and surprisingly can fit almost as much stuff, including ladders. Janky do thanky for the comment!

    I used to hate on these things bad when they first came out, and I was in my early 20’s, the company I worked for drove all Chevy Expresses and GMC Savannas, and to be fair to them we always hauled around 12’ lengths of pipe, so those vans made sense for that company, but now that I’ve been doing a lot more contracts on my own, and have started to look at a second vehicle purely for work, these little tanks seem very appealing, you have all the cargo space and maybe more then a standard 6’bed pick up with a cap on it, plus it’s heated and dry, on a vehicle chassis that’s way better on fuel, plus they’re cheap to buy and maintain.

    • @JankyAF
      @JankyAF  Před rokem +4

      Yea they are definately a Niche vehicle, I always liked the styling of them and it was a really faithful workhorse for many years. It was paid off and I put very little into it, was absolutely rode hard and put away wet. Surprisingly good in the snow with proper snow tires. Eventually needed a major service and I took advantage of the trade-in market to trade it for a Prius, which is a surprisingly good work vehicle, albeit with a few compromises. But compared to those larger V8 vans it is much easier to daily I think, really like these little things. Thanks for the comment

I put ford ranger front springs actually, one coil spring cut in half on top of rear axle, the bumps tops hold them in place! I can now carry 3, three 55 gallon drums of oil in back without hardly any sag. If I want to impress the ladies with a smooth ride? I just take out the coil overloads! I DONT,but I could!! Oh sooo many partial snacks in those windows switches, partial burritos, partial finger nail clippings, the center mounted switches are too funny to me, the PT cruiser sticks out as another vehicle with them. I get it with it being easier to sell a Euro and American version, but they certainly have their downside. Oooh, black cloud, very nice, I always admired from afar a Black TC in Buffalo, great color for em and then you don't even have to paint the steel wheels. Ha wow great suspension upgrade. Haulin peaches thru Georgia seems like a quintessential Georgia activity, the only thing greater would be if your Transit was peach orange in color. Seems like a perfect vehicle for what you need, good cargo space, tall roof, decent gas mileage. Surprisingly that there are not more vehicles like this out there tho with the Nissan NV-200 and chevy counterpart, dodge promaster city and new transit connect it seems other auto makers have finally caught up. I wish you many more miles in it.

    First of all I'd like to thank you on your voice clarity, I'm an older fella and my hearing is not so great anymore. I listen to a lot of videos and sometime you can't understand a word their saying. With that aside, I spend lot of time fishing and towing a boat is one of my rewards, I own a f150 rwd but sometimes I feel I could use a 4x4 where I would be able to safely get the boat in and out of the water especially in the winter time.
    In truth, I don't really want to get a 4x4 (meaning I don't need a 4x4 98% of the time.) With the Ford Transit Connect being a front wheel drive, what's your thoughts for my kind of use? The boat, trailer and gear is under 1000 lbs. Thanks for your time on this video, very helpful.

    • @JankyAF
      @JankyAF  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Hey there, well Janky do Thanky, Annunciation is not always easy for me, as I tend to talk to fast, jump around in my thoughts, say em, like, uh, um, too much, and mumble, but I try when on Camera to be as clear and precise as I can, its always an ongoing practice. So I very much appreciate your compliment.
      It says online the Transit Connect is rated at 2000lbs towing, so sounds like if you got a trailer hitch installed it would have no problem towing your little boat around. While it was fairly capable with snow tires, my only concern would be backing down and trying to pull up steep inclines such as a boat launch during the winter time, specifically if there was snow or ice on the launch. But if you weren't actually launching boats during the winter it seems like it would do the job. You could also probably camp in the back of the Van, and/or have plenty of storage for your equipment. One thing you might consider is you would be riding much lower and feel much smaller in the Transit than in an F150, which could be either a good or bad thing, depending on your perspective. But for a "van" it really rides and feels more like a car, as its built on a Focus platform, I believe. I would try to find someone who has one or take one for a test drive, to see how it compares to a full-size pickup truck. But in principle I don't see any reason it wouldn't work, and you will get a little better fuel mileage as well. Good luck!

      @JankyAF  Před 2 měsíci

      Its so funny how similar and yet different they look. It always boggles my mind how us companies, and ford in particular, tweak things for the european and american markets. It seems not worth it from an engineering standpoint to make everything different, but I suppose govt legislation and a lot of focus group market research dictates it. The tourneo's look really cool. A turbo and a manual in this thing would have made it so cool. The european market just does vans so much better, in my opinion. Honestly I don't think there has been as good an all around work/utility vehicle in the US since the ford aerostar, but oddly enough Europe didn't really get many of those at all. Well said. I think I was probably subconsciously hoping for transmission failure so I could justify a manual swap. Ford designed the TC for the European market as a cargo/ service van and built in Turkey to keep the price down.
    Be careful about what tires you get as the only one's I know are certified for it are Continentals. The tire pressures are very high. The car is very DIY maintenance friendly.
    Your transmission and brake problems may be related to the weight you carrying

    • @JankyAF
      @JankyAF  Před rokem

      Indeed! I think 50 in the rear and 48 in the front, something like that for PSI. It actually did have continentals on it when I bought it, but also had some snow tires I purchased. As I recall there was a badging designation like "T" or something on the end of the tire size to account for the higher TP and load rating. Michelin snows I had for it worked great tho, surprisingly capable little gremlin in the winter with good winter tires. Where I live is very hilly, with a lot of hill climbs and a lot of deep valley dives, so works the transmission and breaks pretty good. Its funny, I don't live in a good place to drive slow cars, which is what I like, but terrain in general factors a lot more into maintenance than we give it credit for. I would suggest this more than payload, as I was usually never carrying more than a few hundred pounds in the back, altho there were some heavier trips, so you could be right, that could have been a factor as well. And yes the basic maintenance I did like oil changes and breaks were pretty simple and approachable on this vehicle. Well janky do thanky to you for your comment. I may have forgotten at the time, but I've looked it up and it was around 84k. I did some comp research on these when I was looking at moving on from it, and I think $20k for 77k seems a bit high to me. Here is a great one with a green wrap: www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-Ford-Transit-Connect-d2037#listing=333406949/NONE - only 54k miles for $14k, the dealer does have a hefty "processing" fee of $600 plus tax and tags but that's still well under 20 grand, and lower mileage. Not sure what area of the country you are in but should not be that much variability, and id say if your in rust country like me itd be worth traveling a ways to get something totally clean underneath. I'd do your research for 20 grand you could probably get into a 2nd gen model, which I have to think are a little more refined, tho honestly I haven't done much research on them. good luck on your search, would love to hear if you find something, but I'd say do a lot of searching on multiple sites before you plunk down for just anything

      Thank you. That one has a branded title, but very cute. How do those wraps hold up? I'm in north central Floriduh, Dick of the US. Big enough PITA/cost to go to Orlando to get it (most horrible place to drive in the US, in my experience of many states). I've been looking for a long time and while it's not a desperate need, it's time. I'm retiring this year and hitting the road, probably relocating to MX and I'll be living in this for a while - maybe years - til I figure out where to land again.
      I don't want a newer model - they are shorter in height. I'd hoped to find a LWB, but those available have been abused or are too new for my budget.
      Dealer charges $899. I think it's about $3K overpriced, but everything is in the last year. In fact, I bought my Volt in 2021 and the offer from the dealer now is just over what I paid for it (not selling it until the Transit is ready to travel-needs to be "built out" some).
      Snow country....I've lived a lot of my life in it, grew up in upstate NY, then to CO, WI, CA, AZ, here, no more snow for me. Too skinny to stay warm...hahaha. Next long stop will be near the Pacific.

      Learned all about the uk/us focus differences when i reviewed a 2nd gen focus, which was technically a face-lifted 1st gen that was totally different than anything the uk got. It is very interesting who gets what and even in something ostensibly mundane as a compact sedan the thought that goes into delivering to different markets. The name game is also hilarious, as u say the fusion was something totally different here. My favorite is in the 90’s when chevy had the lumina sedan, then introduced a minivan and called it, the “lumina” of course. Janky do thanky I’m very happy and thankful to be getting some viewership from across the pond!

      I think they were these exact ones or very similar: www.ebay.com/itm/313016509911?epid=18018374050&itmmeta=01HTBKE43YTH0NHYRZ8P38ABNC&hash=item48e13ce5d7:g:RwwAAOSwMEleXb5D&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAA4CdUXKcIszxFd4crGrp2x--o3%2BIWba3LBUACpr8VoV5It07q6m5YnZkjuMQQnJQGKpYPjPNrZD72yxS7bplxICfl2hUBo01J3echujczBVtbjAI39apHLzP2mmkd5iHKOwoTgA5M5kmCoQmulvkRyOtnxHUjcJV3rGuwSTk35kguiHJOC6rckEDlDNSm55VayBWvMQBT2nTuxe3ztJGIma876l8oFlAo6sPTUEejxrZV3LqgFr51uxSYwNq%2FfL0XYKCt%2BFKjRM1B4ad3GnxvYBV1z%2BOLWjsoljR%2Fg2brwlJu%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4jCuPPSYw
      I think a lot of companies make them and they are common, this set looks great for a transit because you got two seats and two headrest covers which is a nice touch. janky do thanky good luck!

    Mine is solid and doesn't rattle. Must be some loose parts on yours. Seems like the shocks are shot

    • @JankyAF
      @JankyAF  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes consensus seems to be the shocks are gone. I know some folks with transit’s that dont have the metal bulkhead and shelving mine has, as well as some weird stuff on and in the dashboard, switchgear to operate the inverter and siren (that was cut off because it was a parasitic drain) - as this was an old optimum cable installation fleet vehicle, so i think those thing contribute somewhat, but all that stuff notwithstanding i believe your right and they need some love. Janky do thanky for the comment.

      funny enough, I was just remarking to myself in the last few weeks how the ride is seemingly getting even stiffer, so your comment is very apt, so janky do thanky. It's something I'll be looking into as this vehicle approaches 120,000 miles and will start needing another wave of maintenance.

      Thanks for the comment, yea I think its time for a somewhat major service, getting a lot of people saying shocks, and its always had an uneven idle, which I feel like is rattling the dashboard more, combined with all the weird aftermarket buttons and knobs from the cable company that owned it prior to me make it a certified rattle box. Bulkhead shelves are starting to ping back and forth too. Also I feel like the alignment is not great, and the wondering if one of the rims (which has since been removed) was a bit bent as well. Janky AF indeed. Sorry for your headache!

    They should’ve put a hybrid engine in it ..

    • @JankyAF
      @JankyAF  Před 2 lety

      Agreed, the pity for me is that in Europe these could be had with diesel engines and manual transmissions, I wish the US segment would have gotten more options in general on these, but I have a feeling Ford was rushing to get it to market, and generally Ford does very different things in Europe vs US markets. The 2nd generation Ford Focus, for example, which this car was largely based on, was a completely different car in the US vs Europe. I think Ford was only going to do so much development on this vehicle because they knew a newer model was coming soon anyways, which we see with the current US spec Transit full size and Transit connect. But your point stands b/c as far as I know the new transit connect still does not offer a hybrid.
