Homeowner Erica Reddy-Choquette invites us inside her hard loft apartment in Toronto’s Corktown neighborhood. The spacious 2400-square-foot space was converted into a residential building in the '90s. “It has all of the original features of a hard loft: 14-foot ceilings, concrete columns and concrete floors,” says Erica. See how she transformed the two-storey condo into a functional and stylish oasis that’s perfect for her family and entertaining.

That staircase would give me heart palpitations
You could lose a lot of guests and the dog on those :0
Imagine climbing it drunk
Staircase is stupid. From someone has fallen down 4 different staircases. Handrails are a must.
I’m surprised that’s it’s code to not have one.
@@michelesimpson2237 learn to walk
How’s the staircase not a liability ? How’s it even be approved for a residential unit? Bonkers
First thing I said. That aint up to code. Nice place, though.
The staircase are deadly, no beautiful design around it could make me forget it 😮
Despite that totally terrifying staircase, the design of this loft space is extremely sophisticated yet so very practical. Just a beautiful job. I would happily live in this space, but of course would never, ever, ever venture up to that upper level!
Hi Elizabeth🌹🌹
How are you doing?
No to the stairs! Dangerous. How is that legal?
Hi Donna🌹🌹
How are you doing?
They could have put a glass piece on the side of the staircase so it's not a deathtrap - looks the same but gives a handrail
Looks beautiful but for me the stairs was too high and looks scarry😮
For that staircase, I'd choose safety over design! They better not be having drunk people there.😂
I wonder if their insurance company is aware of this death trap.
I would suggest after drinking any of that wine, not to challenge yourself on those stairs 🤕😵...
That stairs frightens me.
Puh-lease put a railing of some kind on that staircase! It’s an accident waiting to happen. You could even do a see-through acrylic or plexiglass sheath that would still give you a similar look.
Staircase is suicidal lol 😂
It is beautiful but the stairs look like an accident waiting to happen...scary
Hi Judy🌹🌹
How are you doing?
Stairs got to go...scary 😮
Hate that stairs
This loft is amazingly beautiful!!! I would totally live there!
Hi
Not my vibe but a lot of interesting things have been done to make this feel like a home. I like the rug in the living room. Would probably need another one under the dining table and a long runner in the kitchen to bring more warmth to the concrete. The staircase is unsafe. She’s gotten used to it…but looking at the space with fresh eyes all I can see is that darn staircase.
Love the airy vibes but please10x put handle on the stair for your child atleast.
A sense of peace and cohesion can is really shown here. 👏🏼👏🏼
How does that staircase pass code? .....Riser measurements and absent rail, etc
Love the open design, but stairs are definitely NOT to code in Toronto, Ontario, or any of the cites/provinces in Canada where we have built or renovated residential or business
This loft is amazing! ❤
You should do something with stair case it's really ugly & dangerous!
Hi Sheila🌹🌹
How are you doing?
That staircase needs a rail or banister. You may have balance right now, but what about 10 years from now?
Those stairs are INSANITY. Is there no building code that prohibits that accident in the waiting?
@@eattherich9215 The homeowner's nsurance company would probably be interested to know about it, too.
I like most everything about this place, with the exception of the coloring. Erica says "pop" of color.
My requirement is POP of color. This is very nice, but slightly too washed out (but not cold) for my liking, similar to something David used to show clients to get to not choose Hillary's designs on Love It or List It.
She kept saying color and I was searching for it 😂😂😂
Absolutely love this space! So light and cozy, it took my breath away!! 👌🩷
“We’ve talked about ‘do you put a railing?’” - YES! You put in a railing. Xs 2.
Loved this home it’s beautiful
Nice bright and open
Wow. Beautifully designed
Hi Dear🌹🌹
How are you doing?
LUV this. Your color and surface choices are great.
Beautiful home.
My dream space
I presume that staircase is for show and it actually isn’t used and there must be a safer way to get up stairs ☺️
That staircase is an accident waiting to happen. I’m sure it wouldn’t meet code in the USA.
True, i mean code has definitely made the USA the absolute safest country in the world
I've watched enough of Mike Holmes to know that code in Canada requires a handrail on stairs at least 36 inches high.
It isn't according to code in Canada, either. I wonder if their home insurance company knows about this death trap.
The ID’s on this channel really like white paint
I would not climb on these stairs, maybe crawl, on a brave day
Agreed - steps look like a hazard for sure
They didn't finish the stairs
I agree. They look like the welded stringers support. Would normally be clad in something and a rail with slats or glass to finish the open side
Gorgeous. What colour/paint is the wall behind the bed in the principle bedroom please? TIA.
Hi Jill🌹🌹
How are you doing?
I love the stairs.
Hi heidi🌹🌹
How are you doing?
I am doing great George, thanks for asking.
@@heidihill7633 you’re welcome ☺️
@@heidihill7633 where are you from?
@@GeorgeMoore55 This isn't a dating site, George.
I have no problem with the stairs, but the house feels cold and office-like, not like a warm/inviting home. Even the daughter's room looks terribly sad.
You can get home insurance with those stairs? How about a glass partition on the outer side? Other than the terrifying staircase, the overall effect is drab and lifeless.
Regarding the staircase, the strong and smart shall survive…
Weeds out the poor-of-balance and trippers.
Not for me….and yes everyone banging on about the stairs…totally agree 😮😅
I'm not feeling the industrial vibe and the stairs are a accident waiting to happen.
Most people bashing the staircase but don't understand that they are athletes competing for the Darwin awards obviously!
Having a glass walled wine storage next to a west facing window is…. a really bad idea if you like wine
Truth
Beautiful loft. But: please put up a staircase RAILING on that staircase leading to the loft space! 😵😦😧😨😰😥
You can see the step slightly dip each time she steps on it. That’s a great big NO for me.
Sound mixing is off at times for this vid and distracting
Back wall in the kichen looks cheap. It should be either enclosed or with glass and all shelves with Led strips. Lack of interesting wall panels. Rock wall is a huge trend now. Please do not save on tiling. Bathrooms should be tiles from floor to ceiling. Large porcelain or you can use microcement.
Music was ti high… almost can’t hear the person speaking… otherwise, nice video
True!
Do NOT climb those stairs if you've gotten BO0 0STED
Hi
Next time promote a safer house
Trip and fall hazard on the stairs, especially after smoking weed or getting drunk 😵
Beautiful but the staircase is awful.
Hi barb🌹🌹
How are you doing?
This lady has a mansion in Toronto; so they have to be multi millionaires. Also, the color she kept talking about made 😂😂😂
The customer must be an acrobat
Put off by the voice 😮
Everything is well designed & lovely, but too white and bland. It looks more like a hotel than a home. Then there's the no railing & the somewhat steep step right off the powder room- both seems a bit risky. There are minimal style railings, so just put it in. Also it's 1 thing to have grown up designed space everywhere, but the kid's space seems too sophisticated. It doesn't have to be messy or bright to be youthful & personal.
How is that stairway to code with no railing? Attractive, but dangerous. Nice space otherwise
I don't really feel good about the staircase.
Хорошо, что она пока что молодая и так бегать по лестнице может.. А потом.. И если в руках элементарно бельё в стирку, чашка кофе.. Глупость полная
Soulless.
Huge lofts and mansions look good when a slightly chunkier and a little more darker colors are used in the furnishing. This mansion looks anything but. And she kept saying love to cook - she means toss salads and bake some chicken 😂😂😂😂
ужас какой....
Staircase ridiculous and bound to deaths in people certain to happen unfortunately super bad design
Hi kath🌹🌹
How are you doing?
@@GeorgeMoore55 Get a life, George.
the staircase is dangerous ! not a good design
She doesn't understand the definition of literally.
This is so muted and grey, it’s a bit lifeless. But works well if the aesthetic is sterile
