Meri was absolutely SHATTERED as she dissolved her marriage to Kody - there is no way she wasn’t coerced into doing this. And then to cut both her and Leon (formerly Mariah) out of witnessing them getting legally married after telling her they’d both be involved was just cruel.
They cut her out, because that is where Robyn and Kody made their "sacred covenant" that they would never leave each other in the "pathetic place" that Kody kept the other wives in. Couldn't have Meri hearing those vows.
@@becky9103 Don't know where and when they sealed their secret covenant. My guess would rather be that was before their big wedding.
My take from the picnic table scene was that Robyn already knew all three existing "marriages" were more or less over and she didn't want to just hang in there in a loveless relationship like the OG3 did. I think she made Kody promise her upfront that she would be treated differently.

There’s nothing you can do to convince me that Meri came up with the divorce idea on her own. In my opinion the most sinister couple gaslit and manipulated Meri into doing this. And once Grody got his way he completely physically, emotionally and spiritually abandoned her, after claiming it was no big deal and nothing would change.

Kody and Robyn have been scheming since the day they met. Two of the most evil people on reality TV. It's not Sister Wives, it's Dark Shadows like the old soap opera.
Robyn's entry was the catalyst and her legal marriage to Kody sealed the fate of the other wives and kids. It's funny that Meri is shown as being actively wary against Janelle and Christine to some extent but she was fully trusting and wanting to please the real snake, Robyn.
Second m02, she (Robyn) breathes in and her eyes light up right before she says "that sucker's done huh". Like she couldn't believe what she wanted was happening.

It's as if Every time she's actually excited and happy, but recognizes it's at the expense of the other wives, she thinks she has act like she's just as, if not MORE hurt, upset and emotional....

Meri and Kody had no marriage since the Queen Bee had come into the family. The legal divorce didn't change anything for Meri, except for the paperwork.

They ( R & K) conned and played on Meri’s worry and fretting about her sister dying young and leaving her children and the sisters, sisterwives stepped up to care for Meri’s nieces and nephews. Meri’s sister passed with colon cancer and it was a real fear Meri had. So I think R & K played Meri like a fiddle. Imho.
Robyn has always conned Meri easily because Meri wanted a friend, camaraderie that Christine and Janelle had always.
Robyn manipulated Meri from day one. Playing on heart strings with the promise of friendship and sharing her children with Meri, the only original wife allowed to get close to Robyn’s kids.

100% she was heavily influenced to do it YES! I’m sure they were both pushing her into thinking it was a good idea to have Kody marry Robyn. Playing the “the kids could be taken from the family if he don’t adopt them”. See what she called Meri’s legal marriage “that SUCKER is done?” Like it didn’t mean crap to her but it meant a lot to Meri.
Robin wanted Meri there to get the papers because she could spend the next years convincing Meri that SHE was fully involved and instrumental in this situation. It’s so psychotic. Meri, why are you sad and upset…. You came with us to get our license! Essentially making Meri feel like the author and orchestrator of her own pain and torture.

This episode totally shocked me because I don't remember this divorce being talked about until it was sprung on viewers at the beginning of season 9. I felt like we should have heard the backstory on how this came about. I'm pretty sure it involved manipulation and trickery on Robyn and Kody's part, but it blew my mind to start the season like this. It made me see how evil Robyn was all along. Married by Elvis how does that even come up in the story? Last thing I would ever want in my life. Did K & R go on another 11 day honeymoon? And Kody takes Meri on a date after they sign divorce papers? I wonder who took care of Robyn's kids on the 1st honeymoon? I mean she never trusted anyone to take care of her children but a nanny!
Why was Robyn there at the divorce? She always seems to be there for moments which should be private.

The fact that K & R were going to include Meri and Leon in the wedding ceremony and then didn’t want them there - that is so hurtful. And K & R dressed up and made an event out of what was only supposed to be a “paper shuffle”. That was the end of any pretence of polygamy for them. I think Janelle stabbed Merri in the back aledgly she was Janelle was married to Merris husband and her and Kody were flirting.
