Literally been looking for this game for decades... Couldn't remember the name until just now... When I played it at the arcade in the 80s, it was a nice relaxing game.. Don't know why I enjoyed it so much... I hope it's on this new Retro Pie machine I'm getting...
Did it even have a ending I don't remember but I do remember playing this at pistol Pete's pizza place as a kid this game was always packed good times miss the 80s
I'm only ever been familiar with the 1987 Sega Master System version, have never played the 1986 original but it looks like a riot. It's greatest strength is also Quartets greatest weakness via the 4 player mode. It's a definitive quarter stealer as well. I have on my Pandora's Box and while it will be tougher going at it alone atleast it won't be so hard unlike the master system version here. Neat old Quartet.
The Point and Click Adventure "Resonance" has an achievement unlock that references this, "Achievement Unlocked: Quartet" when you get all 4 people in your party. :)
The game where you can't tell how much your lives stacked when you got hit. But can tell your respective characters screen hub goes blinking in rainbow means you are near death.
I didn't think this was a game that was too hard to find a good copy of. It's worth noting that the newest MAME version lists this game as not working, although I didn't see any big problems when I tried it. Quartet 2 is listed as working, though. For this video, I used MAME++ 0.119 and quartet.zip was about 321 kilobytes.
What controller works on this? How did you get 4 controllers to work? Do you have a controller link? Or even brand/model will work, I can google it. Thanks!
As far as I know, basically any controller will work on MAME. I used an Xbox 360 controller, but I don't know what everyone else used. Getting 4 controllers to work should be as simple as plugging in 4 controllers. I have only plugged in 3 controllers at a time. Sorry for responding a month late, but I don't always seem to get notifications when the comment is a reply to another comment, for some reason.
arronmunroe So there is no setting to set up 4 controllers? I guess this could be based off the frontend you use, what MAME frontend do you use with your emulator? Thanks!
I think I have a better understanding of what you were saying. When I was talking about it being as simple as plugging in 4 controllers, I just meant if you knew how to set up one controller, it's no more complicated with four. I think some versions of MAME can automatically assign buttons to each controller, but you would probably want to manually change them, since the jump and attack button might not be right. Also, if you haven't ever used a controller before, you would need to enable them in MAME.ini by changing "joystick 0" to 1. I used MAME++ 0.119. The newest version of MAME lists this game as not working, unlike ++ 0.119, but it starts up. I can't say for sure that it is playable start to finish on a new version.
@@arronmunroe Nice I have all the emulators accept mame go figure. All the old sega and nintendo, and psx, and pcsx2. Ill check the mame out. Thanks again.
@@arronmunroe I see mame32 plus plus but it ws last updated in 07. I have a much newer one I found that actually has a server set up for network games with others. It is called FightCade.
As long as it has the games you want, then it's fine, but there are a lot of games FightCade doesn't have. Also, I'm pretty sure it only has 2 player netplay, not 4p. www.fightcade.com/games/
One of my all-time favorite arcade games when I was a kid. I used to be able to get to like level 50 just by myself.

I've actually realized they all show different emotions. 1st is happy, 2nd is neutral, 3rd is angry, and 4th is sad.
Oh, and the last place player is the one who says something when four people are playing.
This was a Great 80s Game growing up.!. My brother and I spent a whole $65 food stamp book at the gas station beating this game lol
lol excellent game memories

自分がスタジオ・ハードに所属していたらこの作品のゲームブックを作ってみたかったなぁ…。
ゲームブック版「Quartet(カルテット)」
・主人公はジョー
・原作ゲーム版ではアクションシューティング、ゲームブック版は4人パーティ制RPG(マリ、リー、エドガーはパーティキャラ、メインはジョー)。
me and 3 friends would ride our bikes to the bowling alley to play this game

So basically this is like Rampage, and just goes on forever with no ending...
Thank you so much!
You're welcome. Sorry it took so long to get it done.
How fun was it from a scale of 1 to 10? I'd give it a solid 8 with four players ;)
I'm not a big fan of rating things. I'd say probably something like a 6 or 7. I would give 4 player Sunset Riders a 10.
Even if this made into a movie, it might be a box office flop. Hollywood has a hard time finding 4 actors playing Lee, Joe, Mary and Edgar.
The game where you can't tell how much your lives stacked when you got hit. But can tell your respective characters screen hub goes blinking in rainbow means you are near death.
It's pretty sadistic to me for hearing Mary make the noise of defeat. This is no time for this exaggeration.
Sega classic!
very quarter addictive
wow I felt sorry for yellow Joe. Everyone else had a decent gun but he got like a pea shooter and was dying all the time
They all had lame weapons that got upgraded as they went, but if you went too far it went back to the basic weapon. Kind of like Abadox in a way.
On screen chaos
