Yes, they are good, but every other instrument is the backing, though, with no solo, so you are not going to bang on about the brief appearances of a flute's repetitive chords.

I am 63, my mother passed today at 94 a few days from 95. I looked after her for the last 9 years. I listen to this and it takes me back to when I first heard it, I was running a record shop in Edinburgh, I know I was young back then, if you do the math, but the owner was a tight prick and thought using young people saved him money, I bankrupted the cunt, oops. I love the whole album. R.I.P Gerry.

If this was written in 1955 then I would say that it is ahead of it's time.
But this is the most 70's sounding song that has ever 70's before. This screams 1970's so hard that I don't even need to look up and confirm that this came out in the latter half of the 70's. My guess is between 76 and 79.
So no, it is a product of its time.

I just finished eating heavy breakfast, after paying my bill was about living when Baker Street came on blasting through the speakers inside the restaurant, immediately I did a u turn and sat on the chair in reception feeling full filled and thinking about life. The flash back 80s memories just made my day and the restaurant Mgr joined me and to bring back our teenage yrs. One of the best music I've ever heard and yes everyone loves the sax as I do but the words mean a lot to me too . Just an all around brilliant piece of music that should of recieved more recognition but even without that will be a timeless piece and decades later still be great to listen to

I remember when I was growing up in the early 2000's, my dad would play this song a lot, and every time I'd grab a towel and tie it around my neck like it was a cape before running around the room pretending to be superman. I still occasionally do that as an adult if nobody else is in my house. That sax riff is just too badass.
