First things first. How many bands can you name that:
A) produce great sounding music with superb memorable lyrics,
B) have an elastic personality; which is naturally witty funny, and can say or do something zany at any moment,
C) visually look amazing!
This sort of personality is magnetic, and very few bands had the full combo. Lets see. The Beatles, The Bangles, Duran Duran and The Jackson 5 are the ones which spring to mind. Later bands like The Backstreet Boys and Take That had some of those qualities, in some of the band members. Its the camaraderie - the silly joking around, I love - which isnt high on many artists To Do lists when it comes to fame. Duran Duran has always had the full combination - the chemistry - the complete package.

History
I got the idea many years ago, to compile some funny moments I had seen into a show, and noticed there were already two videos on youtube called Laughing With Duran Duran, by Lynn Cap. I wanted to do something like that, but without ripping those off, so people can still go back and enjoy them. Recently, perhaps due to the 2020 Covid-19 virus lockdown, (look out for the sequel next year - Covid-20 - the New Batch!) I decided to sort out and stitch together these clips into a 'movie'.
I felt I wanted to juxtapose scenes to create a rolling narrative, in a sometimes linear way, where the direction goes around in a spiral, and touches back on itself sometimes. All of these clips were found on youtube, so the quality is poor on some of them, and with watermarks etc. Originally I intended for 1hr 20mins worth, but towards the end of making this, I noticed the film began to sag after maybe 30-35mins. Perhaps I felt the audience would be 'laughed out' by this point. So I swapped a few clips around a bit, and put in the sex and nudity stuff. After that if felt like a good time to draw the film to a close - and I had to draw the line somewhere. I put all of the loose 'endings' at the end, and this seemed to sort everything out nicely. The film went through many edits until I was happy with everything. The final version is version 4, revision 2, in other words - D2 - I didnt plan it that way.. On playback, youtube has cut off the ending, but this was just a fade to black and "The End".
Note: The inclusion of Paula Yates was meant historically and retrospectively, not topically. I just wanted the boat scene, and the look on Nicks face.
Even though I upload this in June, I felt all the virus hysteria going around at that time in history meant it spoiled things. So I thought how about a Christmas release, as bonus to fans. At least we can celebrate DD40 during 2021, even though Simon joined the band in May 1980. For me, the band actually started in 1978, with the name Duran Duran and early proto-songs. So roll on DD45 in 2023. 7up, between 6th and Broadway. - Hudba

Roger is remarried to his second wife, he & his first wife from back in the day, Giovanna, divorced a while back..
Cute video. Did anyone notice the makeup lady skipped Nick when she was powdering the other guys? She took one glance at him and thought, "he's already perfect"! Ha ha. Gotta love a guy who knows how to powder his own face before an interview. He was prepared!

This is great. The fact that they are acting the fool and laughing at themselves with such a sense of humor speaks volumes to me that they aren't stuck up at all , as some critics have said. But they did have a rough exhausting time getting hounded by press etc.

John Taylor has and will always be hot, but Nick Rhodes has my eye as he is so smart, so witty in interviews. I love music as much as he does, I just cannot plan an instrument anymore! And Simon makes me laugh, so so hard! I love to listen to them talk!
These guys are very funny. I especially liked the clip where Simon and Nick are in the dressing room and walk out wearing a dress. I was literally cracking up. I really enjoyed it!

I want to do a good job with the next one, but I'm having trouble translating the Italian language sections with English subtitles.

I love this. When you are in a band that is world famous and you are asked to go around the world promoting your latest single....these things are going to happen. I LOVE how Nick is trying his best to not say anything bad about Andy Taylor, all the while looking at John Taylor and that look them between them lets us know "Andy is already a problem."

Imo, Nick Rhodes is about the only man that can wear a BUNCH of makeup and still look cool. If I did that (only if I were in a Professional Band), it would be a no go.
His makeup has always looked flawless and pretty darn near natural looking. Even though you know he is wearing makeup, his lip colors and blush tones are very complementary to his skin tone and hair colors. He is one of the few musician guys who is a genuine artist package - a very stylish dresser, creative musician and performer, articulate and intelligent, plus a nice guy!

Thank you for at least mentioning the Video Shack crazyness. It was insane both outside, & inside all day! Simon's mum was also amazed at all the commotion. My stepfather snuck them all out through a secret exit from his store. Glad it didn't scare them from coming back to NY. Lol One of my favorite days that bonded us forever! Thank you for these amazing video moments! Well done!

I'm still ahuge fan in 2021 they all have agreat sense of humour with a huge amount of wonderful unquic talent.I knew away back then they had it.. The looks etc all gorgeous looking men when I first seen them first on top of the pops in 1980 after weeks listening to them on the radio i was blown away, i thought Simon was the most gourgous man on earth cant wait to see them all in Dublin love from alife long fan ftrom N.Ireland ❤
I thought they were (and still are) the most exotic looking guys I had ever seen! Granted, I grew up in a small town in the MidWest USA, so not too many guys I knew looked like Duran Duran in the 80s. I think they are actually from a different planet where everyone looks like Greek Gods and Goddesses. I'm not sure they are aware of that though, ha ha :) They might be, and just being incognito about their true identity and mission, which is to inspire us Earthlings with their creative music and lifestyle! :)

This is a brilliant collection of clips. What I want to know is, where on EARTH did you find such a clear, crisp audio track of My Family (instrumental) as I have never heard it sound that good in any bootleg I've ever come across!
I cleaned up the audio I used in the two Laughing With Duran movies. The track is 4:40 in length, and I guess it came from a long defunct collection called The Restored Liberty Demos?
