    Thanks! I just added another video on getting my hardware working with the software you walked us though. I had a couple issues I ran into that I show how to sort out. Linked my subscribers back to this video as a good tutorial on how to use PIWIS :)

    Wow... this stuff has been SOOO useful; thank you for making the time to share your knowledge Jeff!!
    You've inspired me to tweak all kinds of things with my PIWIS II. Some planned, such as upgrading from a CDR31 to a PCM31... and some not.
    If anyone is interested some of the things I have learned along the way include how to:
    o Activate every feature (bar one - which is selecting the model that comes up in the Splash Screen) on the PCM31
    o Add the MAP feature to the Cluster and activate it (they call it LVDS... a hard one to figure out)
    o Activate every possible menu in the Cluster including G-Force, Performance (Torque and Power), Chrono controls, etc..
    o Adjust XM radio antenna sensitivity (USA)
    o Add the Sports Chrono gauge
    I am constantly tweaking in 'E' (Development / Engineering) mode... luckily nothing has 'broken' yet.
    I also spent an inordinate amount of time trying to activate Sport Plus... however eventually determined that a software 'upgrade' applied by the Dealer during a crash repair has permanently locked that feature out.
    Cheers from Florida!

      G'day Rob. Glad the video helped and you've had a bunch of success. I don't think many people will look here for information, but if I can suggest to contribute to the thread below on the Planet9 forum. It's one I started a few years ago. Lots of people go here for information and I'm sure there would be lots who would appreciate the contribution. Cheers, Jeff

    Have just got my piwis up and running thanks to your video. The one thing that stumped me though was the batch file starting the VM but not altering the date. I just change it manually from the settings option and it works great. Also I never would have found where the VAL report is saved to on a million years, thanks again.

      I need to do a video on this as well as some other PIWIS stuff I've discovered. Whilst the batch file was working fine for a while, it's not now and I need to manually change the date as you describe to not get the black menu issue.

    brilliant, learned a lot how to use my piwis. I run it from an old xp computer and it is not as finicky to disconnect or connect, it is quite robust. I will try your VM setup and see if I can make it work on a modern computer. Thanks for sharing.

    Thank you, Jeff. Great content. I've watched all of your videos, and you've given me a lot of confidence to tackle more of these jobs myself.
    You've mentioned using workshop manuals- are these from Porsche, or electronic versions? I'm unable to find a Bentley's or Haynes manual on the 981. Thank you again. Great stuff!

    Jeff - I have a bad front BCM and I bought a used one - can I copy the information from the original BCM and paste it into the one I purchased - using the PIWIS II?

    • @jeffrichardsoncardiy
      @jeffrichardsoncardiy  Před 3 měsíci

      Unfortunately not. This definitely needs to go to the dealership and have all the keys and other control units like the DME, rear BCM coded so they talk to each other. The front BCM is the heart of the anti theft system so it's made to be very difficult to just copy and paste. I'm not even sure if an old control unit can be recoded by the dealership rather than a brand new one. I'd be very interested to know if it can be done.

    Hi Jeff, I'm currently trying to install and code PSE button on my 991.1 C2S (not PSE) as an addition to Soul Sport Exhaust. I have two issues:
    1) I'm keeping CTEK MXS 5.0 plugged into the car during working with the PIWIS program, but if the battery is less than 90%, the indicator of the battery on top of the application's window (close to the language dropdown) start showing warning and accordingly documentation I have to "Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least → Nominal value: 40 A to the vehicle battery." How do you deal with that?
    2) I followed the "Installation and Conversion Instructions for PSE Retrofit Sport Exhaust System, 3.8 l (I-no. 176) " document, and after step "5 Code the sports exhaust system" everything worked fine with only one small issue: when I press SPORT button -> AUTO START/STOP button's indicator doesn't light up... but the function works as expected (PSE button light up correctly). I tried to reverse back changes but still can not make that sequence work. Any help here?

    • @jeffrichardsoncardiy
      @jeffrichardsoncardiy  Před 2 lety

      I can't comment on the coding of buttons as I don't have any experience on this. Regarding the charger, I just look at the voltage on the MFD in the car and check that it doesn't reduce while I'm using PIWIS. I use a 15A charger and this seems to not drain anything from the battery for a the work I do. I ignore the messages on PIWIS.

    Hi Jeff, is it typical to very few faults? I recently had a pre purchase inspection performed and there were many past faults that hadn't been cleared in the history log but only 2 benign active faults. The most concerning was a fault with the pdk electronics. Just not sure how typical they are.

    • @jeffrichardsoncardiy
      @jeffrichardsoncardiy  Před 2 lety +1

      If not cleared for a few years it's easy to have a bunch of faults present that are just due to doing maintenance that are old and not active. PDK faults I would consider unusual. I can't give advice, but if it can be cleared, taken for a solid drive and not return that's going to be a good thing. Also, if there was a way to explain the inactive fault, maybe a flat battery, that would give me some peace of mind. Also, it should say when the PDK fault was. If recent I would be concerned.

    • @jeffrichardsoncardiy
      @jeffrichardsoncardiy  Před rokem

      No idea. That seems very strange the airbag light would be on with no errors for the airbag module. Any errors in the instrument cluster. Also, what does PIWIS say for the instrument cluster and if the airbag light should be on?

      I haven't done this specifically, but in development mode you should be able to either deactivate it completely or change the speed it deploys.

      I'm just about to post a video on how to code in new options. I don't have any experience with this specific issue, but if the open diff (option I219) is installed on your car, and you change this to the 40% locking diff (option I220), this might work for you. Can you give me feedback if you do this on how it works out? Cheers.
