I know it isn't the anthem of Australia, but it is without comparison the most beautiful national song ever written worldwide.
I do agree, shivers down my spine.
Yes this is a stirring song. I think that the Aussie anthem is pretty good too. Probably 'Land of Hope and Glory' or maybe the beautiful 'Jerusalem' in the UK are up there. I also love Lee Greenwood's 'God Bless the U.S.A' too.
Think you may find that the Irish will claim that 'Fields of Athenry' belongs in the same company too.
It should be. It's so beautiful and stirring and heart-filling.😍
@@sparklecanada0112 and everyone can relate to it
I was born in Iran and came to Australia in 1995 when I was 9 years old.
This song brings a tear to my eye every time.
Good on ya Afshin!
a family member is from Iran. one of the best guys I know. Love him a lot.
Legend
I'm a first Australian and I feel the same. Beautiful and inclusive ❤️
Legend Afshin, good on ya mate!
Rest in Peace, Judith. Your voice was a gift from God to the World.
Who else wants this as Australia's national anthem.
me to
+rodney coleman Totally, its so much better then the current one. I have to say even the Kiwis have a better national anthem than us
Yes, if you want to be known as a head hunter.

Every time I hear this song I tear up and I'm not even an Aussie. We have some great patriotic songs in the USA but I'm not sure we have one that says it as elgantly as this one does. Australia is so blessed to have a group like the seekers as a national treasure.
I'm from the Netherlands. This should be the National Song of Australia. Incredible song. Shivers down my spine and wet eyes.
Thank you friend, we are brothers in Arms

America the Beautiful.
This is as unpatriotic as any song can get. It is about our traitor governments giving away our inheritance, to people from cultures that gave the world such cultural gems as: FGM, foot-binding, polygamy, legal wife-beating, honour killings, child marriage and slavery.
THIS is an ANTHEM for Australia
written by Australians and sung by Australians
Such a beautiful country and you never hear anything bad about the people God bless you all and may God watch over you and your loved ones everyday of your life amen
Agree
And yet the flag has a foreign country on it..
@@mrmtee The Union Jack is no more foreign than is our English language and our Westminster system of parliamentary governance with all its checks and balances and separation of powers. We do not change our surname just because we grew up and left our parent's home, and the Union Jack in a flag's canton is analogous to a surname; it shows the world our international family and shows the sort of free political system that we have inherited and function under, it shows our principles and values. Thousands of Australian men and women have fought, self sacrificed and died for the principles and values and the political system that our flag with its canton and stars represent. We are beneficiaries of their sacrifices. It is _not_ a foreign flag; it is _our_ flag.
@@mrmtee The flag that found the country and built it up.
Im a proud American....but I love Australia. The Seekers are one of the best groups of the 60s bar none... Mrs Judy has the voice if an Angel...This should be their national Anthem. Thankyou Australia!
I'm as English as they come but I reckon this is one of the world's greatest patriotic songs and should be Australia's national anthem.
The Seekers
Seekers themselves refused to allow it as the National Anthem
@@nigelguest2639oh really. Wow I thought they were never asked.. how sad.
What voices that would have been for your national anthem.
Rip Judith sing for the angels ❤❤❤❤
Brit here too. They are our cousins
Her awesome voice will now be heard through out the heavens, RIP Judith.
Her voice reaches all the way to my bones what a talent !
And she was 57 in this version. That voice.
Who thinks THIS should be our National Anthem?
Absolutely!!!!
This song gave me shivers. I am an American and love our patriotic music, but we need an American anthem that truly inspires. God bless the U.S.A., and Australia.
WE NEED THIS AS THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.

I'm English and at a loss why it isnt.
I'm not English but Fark Me why isn't this the anthem.
Judith's voice and her personality resonated around the world. Australians should indeed be proud of her and The Seekers for their contributions to making the world feel more like one family. Her legacy given its richness will live on.
I am not Australian but, by God, when I listen to this it makes me wish that I was! Simply beautiful and tear-jerking.
Always believed this should be the National Song of Australia. Great song that pulls at the heart strings.
+northerntraveller I thought it was!!
If this became the Aussie national anthem; it would be, by far, the greatest national anthem in the world.
Norman Saunders I agree with what you say... this should be the Australian National Anthem, what a fantastic song
Yes, proud to be a head hunter.
Hear, Hear,
We, the world, need this song now more than ever.
Still as bloody good as they were in the 60s.Judith has one of the best voices on the planet.A True Aussie treasure.
I'm an Englishman but this song brings a lump in my throat and a tear of happiness to my eye. The Seekers and this tune epitomise patriotism - and it should be the Australian national anthem.
You can sat that again.! Advance Australia Fair is so old-fashioned.
GOD, does this song make me wish I was Australian!!! As it was, I fought with Aussies in VietNam, and they're as tough as they are wonderful!! God luv ya, mate!
Thanks mate , it sounds like you should be an Aussie maybe I served a long side of you in Nam
I love Australians; They are the salt of the Earth. God Bless Australians.
Amen!
Ty :D
Salt of the earth
@Eri reaction Thank You
Thanks mate. I think so too.
Born and raised in brooklyn n.y. but this song still chokes me up
The news this morning that lead singer Judith Durham had passed away absolutely shattered me today. A voice such as Judiths is not found every day. I can not image how the remaining members of this iconic Aussie band are feeling. Athol, Bruce and Keith...keep your heads up.Judiths iconic voice lives on as the memories of the seekers do. RIP Judith Durham.
I am Japanese, Unfortunatelyl, I cannot fully understand the meaning of this lyrics, But, tears drops in spite of me and naturally, whenever I listen . Why??
Judith Durham has the the most perfect voice on the planet
+alan crowther your right there
Judith just stand,s there and sings no half naked dancers flashing lights mic not down her throat.
alan crowther:... yup!! ... just gorgeous. .. and not just her voice either!!! 👍
The amusing thing is, I hear, that Judith was always a little shy and reserved and self-conscious, not believing that she was attractive as a woman. If ever female beauty on this Earth was personified, it has been in Judith.
As the saying goes: "You don't explain beauty, you just contemplate it".
@@Chrisjude100 Judith could have not been more wrong. She was and is perfectly lovely with an incomparable voice.
The Seekers are Australia's greatest singing group ever and this song I Am Australian is the greatest Australian song - it gives me goosebumps every time I hear it and I'm proud to be an Aussie - I have loved the Seekers all my life
I'm English, but this song makes me want to be Australian.
yeah, Romanian here and I'm really starting to like Australia just because of the Seekers (I was already liking Steve Irwin since many years ago, and now I'm starting to like it because of these guys LOL). Also, this band is simply amazing! Those voices... Bruce's, and Judith's especially... it's incredible. I actually cried during this song, and I have no idea why this isn't the national anthem of Australia. Love this song (one of my all-time favorites of all decades and performers), and I love the Seekers. These are the kind of people that deserve immortality, not politicians, presidents, and their kin :(
:-)
Hey, your ancestors sent convicts that became head hunters.
I’m an American and envy Australians! They are what we could have been, had we been smarter and braver.
Ron, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens, can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead. Never to late
I've never been to Australia, but this song gives me happy tears. This song makes me want to visit Australia.
I'm not Australian but this song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Make me wish I was one.... at least for a moment :)
I LOVE THAT SONG,TOO
This is Australia’s true song, not that rubbish they use today, Judith’s voice is and will always make me proud to say I am an Aussie born and bred
When I hear this song I become Australian for three minutes…a very beautiful song. Thank Australia for Judith, truly an angelic voice.
I feel like this should be the national anthem...
I am a Kiwi. this is the most wonderful song by the most wonderful Australian band ever. I wish we could come up with something like this.
God bless and be with you all everyday of your life
And I love your national anthem
Never mind, you Kiwi's will have to settle for having the best national anthem......BY FAR
You Kiwis have a beautiful national anthem.
The NZ anthem was written by an Irish man,(Thomas Bracken) so they have good song writers and rugby players. 🎶🏉
I used to be Amish and I Love this song as one of my favorites. I’m 67 now and still listening to all her others. 🇺🇸2022
Tears in my eyes and pride in my heart every Time
no disrespect to anyone but they should make this the national anthem of Australia. There is no singer with a voice that is more commanding than Judith's and which is more Australian than the Seekers
They absolutely should.
Absolutely agreed
Amen to that, great song, great singers
Singers of popular music perhaps...but Australia also produced Dame Nellie Melba, Dame Joan Hammond, and La Stupenda herself, Dame Joan Sutherland.
thumbs up
Gosh that song fills me with pride! And I'm not even Australian!
I'm Dutch, but this song gives me goosebumps. What a song. Can imagine if you listen to this that you are proud to be Australian. Warm greeting from The Netherlands.

I know the song is long, but the best part, "i came upon the prison ship, bowed down by iron chain," etc... That's the best verse. I wish it was in.
Who cares? i love the seekers because of my parents and i appreciate this live. My dad used to say australians are our cousins.
Sing to the angels in heaven judith, thats why they took you they wanted your beautiful voice for themselves. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Yes you’re right. This verse should be in. You can find the whole song. It should be in because they were prisoners who first came to Australia. They didn’t want to be here.
I am Japanese. This song and picture make me happy. And decided to have Aussie beef tonight.
onya mate. make sure its from king island
RIP Judith, one of the greatest voices singing a great song. You will be missed.
This is beautiful and so true
Judith has an incredible voice 💜💜
Amazing song! Love it.....from a Dubliner who lived in Australia for a year in 2001/2002.......Ireland & Australia, very strong cultural links 🇮🇪🇦🇺
This should be australias national anthem. The lyrics tell the story of austalia from the original inhabtants to the proud nation of australia. Love the song. Love the seekers
For that matter, with a few word changes...and some changes in people's hearts...this could be the national anthem for any county. And, I would hope that we all grow some compassion for freedom and humility to get to that point some day.
yep, cobber, you're right
Haha! Amusing coming from from a Ludwig Kemp :D
I am an American who thinks "America the Beautiful" should be our national anthem. I see a lot of parallels between it and "I Am Australian." Well done, Bruce! The Seekers are one of the best groups of their genre (with great staying power).
I am as American as I can be & proud of it; this is one great song, their love of country really comes through.
This song and Waltzing Matilda both bring a tear to my eyes. My dad fought with Aussies in WWII supporting the coastwatchers, and I had the honor of fighting in VietNam with them, and I LOVE them! I exchanged flags with a soldier, and I still have it in my den. By the way, Don't the Seekers look absolutely WONDERFUL? God, they get older but they don't AGE!!!
Don’t forget Michael Hutchence
The beautiful voice of the late Judith Durham. A wonderful song by the wonderful Seekers. What a tribute it would be if this song was the anthem of Australia!
Make you Bloody proud to be an Aussie - Should be our National Anthem
One of the few nationalities who appreciate what they've got.
This is delightful! God bless the Aussies ♥'s
I am so proud to be an Australian, I have travelled to many other countries over the years. The best word I have ever heard was when we returned to Sydney in 2006, and the guy at the airport says "gday", it was truly great to be home in the best country in the world.
I couldn't have said it better myself. I love being Australian everything about it just kicks ass
I love the feeling of nationalism this song invokes -- makes me want to move to Australia.
L. Mary Lawson do it
My spine was tingling listening to this. I can't believe they weren't given a standing ovation. Her voice is spectacular.
The digideroo at the beginning was a nice haunting touch.
Pure Magic from Judith & the Boys ...
Stay strong Australia! Love from Canada.
As Americans, we have America the Beautiful, and God Bless America. I find this song just as inspiring, as I'm sure all
Australians do too.
It's the unofficial Australian Anthem.
Beautiful ballad im irish but my first sweetheart was Australian thats over 40 years ago and I still miss him

WOW SEEKERS ARE INVINCIBLE SO PROUD TO BE AUSTRALIAN
Am not an Australian yet I think this powerful patriotic lyrics , perhaps the song should ought to be the Anthem of Australia.
This song tells Australia's story.
We are one and we are all Australian,. Our ancestors were here after the indigenous peoples of Australia. Let’s all stand together as one. Loving all together as one.
Absolutely makes the hair stand up on my arms. Australia is going through difficult times with the raging fires. I love love love the Seekers and have since i was a teenager in the early 60s. And I love Australia. Just a beautiful song that brings tears to my eyes.
I get a serious amount of goosebumps whenever I hear this song. They should make it our national anthem, for sure.
I heard it played at the Freedom Rally in Melbourne today (Nov. 2021) and it brought tears to my eyes, seeing that huge crowd brought to silence while they listened. Definitely Australia's song.
I wasn't at the rally, but watched it on ytube, it was amazing.
From an era when popular music was real music, with harmonies and words we can understand.
It is with tears in my eyes, here in USA, having just heard about Judith's passing. She was loved by this 78 y/o lady felling extreme loss today, for us all. Ever grateful for her bringing such joy to my life.
I'll never understand why this is not our National Anthem, at least everyone knows the words to this unlike our current anthem., I saw The Seekers 20 odd years ago and I've never been so moved by a song, the whole audience got up and applauded but at least 5 minutes, it was a wonderful experience. So proud to be an Australian.
Nobody knows the words, all they know is the chorus.
Thats the way mate...
@@jpah8944 not too sure about that, I don't know the words to our non sensensical antham now. Gert... Who the hell knew what that meant.
I can so much identity with this song. Always brings tears to my eyes. My Great grandfather came to Australia from north west England in 1862 for the gold rush in Victoria and then on to the Western Australian gold fields. My parents were "children of the depression." I grew up as a kid in the "bush" in tough times in the 1950s. We saw the good times come in the 1960s and 70s. I have criss crossed Australia many times and traveled many long and dusty roads in my life. Wouldn't want to be born any where else. Sadly i think Australia is in danger of losing our identity .
Wonderful people in a wonderful proud country with the right values..... I'm envious... Wish I was one of them
WONDERFUL VOICE! Lovely song!!!
The marvelously unique Australian saga perfectly conveyed within this devastatingly beautiful tune.....and no better ambassadors to sing it out to the world than the fabulous Seekers!......With great affection....cheers from 🦋Canada🦋
This is and I do think the most moving song this country can hear and love.
Absolutely awesome song.. well done Bruce .... Love you people...

WHAT A WONDERFUL GROUP AND A GREAT SONG OF AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!
Bruce's masterpiece - never tire of hearing it (though I am Canadian)
There is always a anthem for a country and there will be always a song that describes the history and its people that will top a anthem a song where you not only can touch the time and past but live it all over. And yes nothing so far in human history described this country so well as this song. Well done mate

Any song that brings a tear to your eye is worthy of being the National Anthem. I don't get that way when I sing our National Anthem but this one sure does bring a tear.
