    I'm a decent high rev bowler and a lefty. I absolutely love the purple hammer on house shot! Extremely controllable. If I miss in, it holds. If I miss left it hooks back

      @jrvk82 not as well as urethane for me. Rev rate tends to make the ball overreact causing me to have to move right which is less predictable then urethane 👍

    its helpful in bowling to understand how exactly you and other people on your pair are changing the pattern from each shot. it’s extremely helpful in bowling to understand how exactly to change the pattern shot by shot to your advantage.
    don’t get mad at the guy throwing urethane on a fresh hard or short pattern. if hes in the right part of the lane it’s likely that he’s helping you by giving the pattern some shape / hold. adjust to it like you would typically when your ball skids too much: slower speed, stronger ball, make a move, etc. boom, now you have a little more room.
    get mad at the guy throwing urethane on a 230 scoring pattern. the lanes already have some shape/hold and the urethane is over exaggerating it.

    As a two handed lefty...all my reactive balls hook to much on house. Urethane helps me control the lane a lot more.

  • @deadpolymers3416
    @deadpolymers3416 Před 2 měsíci +2

    I start with urethane in league most weeks. 2H Rev dom lefty on a dry coiffed house shot. Even my smoothest reactive balls try to go sideways on the league shot. So I start with urethane, and ball up when the 7 pin or 3 pin starts popping up.

  • @darylw792
    @darylw792 Před 2 měsíci +2

    My problem with the old urethane was carry down when on synthetic lanes. Than I took a new Fab Black Hammer and drilled it using a Mo Hole layout. Now the ball had a 2" flare. As a result, no more carry down problems. Even with the balance hole now plugged there is still flare and no carry down effect. So being rev dominant from time to time I will use either the old Fab Black or Pink Hammer with a plugged Mo Hole to play straight up 2nd arrow on a house shot with good results most of the time. Might try the new Black Hammer and see what I can do with it with a similar layout using 16 lbs of course.

  • @travishanson166
    @travishanson166 Před 2 měsíci +2

    Sometimes the urethane works and sometimes it doesn't, regardless of the oil pattern.
    I throw 3 urethanes and 2 reactives during warm-ups on every condition. A black pearl hammer, a purple pearl hammer, a red fab hammer. And I decide what reactives to try based on how the other balls perform, or how quickly they come back dry playing right of 5.

    As an old school Full Roller who grew up throwing rubber, plastic and then urethane, I would agree with Phil.
    For most average house shot bowlers who do not have high execution levels or shot repeatability, using resin will protect them and allow them a greater margin of error and ultimately higher scoring. If those same bowlers were to start using urethane, which requires a much higher execution level for success than resin, they would see a drop in their average and actually some confusion on what moves to make since urethane rolls through the lane in an entirely different manner than resin.
    For those bowlers with great accuracy and shot repeatability, urethane can be a deadly weapon bordering on a cheat code.
    I disagree with Phil that low rev, low speed bowlers cannot benefit from urethane. I am a very low rev and slow ball speed Full Roller senior and my highest series and games have all been shot with urethane. Urethane works exceptionally well for bowlers that know how to bowl straight with control regardless of rev rate or speed.

    I'm a rev dominant bowler with only maybe 15.5mph off my hand. I use urethane pretty much all the time, because almost all the reactive balls i throw are much more sensitive to my release and revs. Reactive balls always hook more than i want i just have a harder time being consistent with them. I'm much more comfortable throwing urethane.

  • @joehoenig7596
    @joehoenig7596 Před 2 měsíci +2

    With all due respect to Phil, it is not carved in granite that only high rev/high speed bowlers truly benefit from urethane, and not on house shots.The flip side of resin balls being created to hook more and more with each company's newest release, is that the modern resin balls need more ball speed. If a bowler has lower ball speed, they might not be able to control the reaction shape of a modern resin ball, even with layout and surface changes. And if you are bowling on cliffed house shots, modern resin balls can create extremely challenging over/under conditions. Further, if you're a lefty, you probably won't have much help from teammates or opponents to break down that cliff and smooth out the reaction. Petraglia said it best years ago: if a lefty has a look at the start of play, he probably won't lose that look and will dominate. But if a lefty does not have a look at the start of play, he probably won't find it, because no one save himself is there to break down the pattern. All told, there are certain bowlers who can and would benefit from urethane on house shots--even if they don't "throw the ball like the PBA pros do." When you lack the ball speed or rev rate to control over/under reaction, even on a house shot, urethane can give you that control. Is your 2-teen or 220 game going to stand up to a resin user's 230-240+ game? No. However, from a team perspective, if I had to choose shooting that 2-teen game with urethane, versus beating my head against the wall with multiple splits stemming from forcing resin to work, I'd take the urethane 2-teen game anyday! The argument that bowlers force urethane to work when it's just not called for, is absolutely true; but for some bowlers, the reverse is also true when forcing resin to work, just because "urethane should not be used on a house shot."

      One hand No thumb high rev low speed old guy I found something better than urethane. Plastic Columbia white dot. More success on multiple house shots. Urethane sometimes forces me in a few boards into the cliff. White Dot keeps me next to the dry and use the cliff as hold. Reactives push me way left and even if it is a great shot on the left lane, the ball return gets in the way on the right lane. Can't get in front as my speed gets too low to be consistent. What other sport has a big obstacle in the middle of the playing area?

      The vast majority of the time you can blend out over/under on house just as well with the right resin balls. A lot of people are just allergic to staying behind it and keeping angles straighter and they create a problem that isn't there.

      @joehoenig7596 Před 2 měsíci

      @@garvin9939 A lot of people have also not been shown HOW to "stay behind the ball", despite Randy telling us that we need to do that. Additionally, those of us who started bowling during the "turn your hand around the ball to make it hook" era, have a harder time staying behind and through the ball. It can certainly be taught and learned, but it takes time, effort, patience and dedication.
