Finding A Line | Running Whitewater on the South Harris and Magnetawan Rivers | Part 1

  • I had discovered rapids on exploratory trips previously on the south Magnetawan River and the south branch of the Harris River. At the time, I didn't have the opportunity to run them. So in November of 2020, my friend Ben and I headed out for 3 days to tackle these rapids when the river was running high. We also lucked out on unseasonably warm weather on our trip. It was the best combination of conditions and rapids we could have asked for.

    I would always have Ben in my bow! He has such a great read on the water. The footage from the bow is so much better, I could see the lines I would have made. Great videos, you should be on Patreon, I would support it.

      Hi Jeff! Yeah, definitely a great bow paddler to have in your canoe. He certainly makes our runs much easier and predictable. Appreciate the support. Not something I've looked into, but maybe in the future. Cheers

    Great Video! I have a huge respect for the Magnetawan. I made a lot of portages on it.

      Thanks Jimmy! Yeah, the Magnetawan is a great river, and some sections certainly need portaging! 😉

    I have to use a check list in my old age. I have forgotten my tent pegs once.

      😄 I hear ya! You should check out our Thanksgiving canoe trip. I did you one better - I forgot parts for connecting the poles for a hot tent and had to turn back! But yes, lists are more important than ever. 🤫

    I use the List system, I write everything down and go by a list if I remember to grab it. lol

    That's a lot more exciting than running the north branch. You guys didn't have a lot of time to make adjustments on some of those runs on the south branch.
    Are you gonna dump at the start of the next episode; I can't wait to find out.

    • @ThePursuitofPassion
      @ThePursuitofPassion  Před 2 lety +1

      Heck ya. I was very surprised to find that when I did the exploratory trip, so naturally I wanted to run it. It is a fast run, that's for sure, so yes, you have to be on your game. 😆 re dump! You'll see!

    Amazing video David!! The dynamic duo back together. Have you considered tackling the mag from wahwashkesh? I would love to see yourself and Ben running canal, graves and thirty dollar rapids and the many others right to Britt

      Thanks Scott! 😄 Yes we are. I certainly have considered it. I canoed through the area years ago, but we portaged around the rapids then as my partner wasn't into whitewater, but with Ben, for sure! Looks like Ben has already responded and now it's just a matter of making it happen! 😊

    Great video! I noticed on your spray deck you have raised areas to deflect the water is that something you made or did it come that way? I am about to order the same one but I don’t see that option.

    • @ThePursuitofPassion
      @ThePursuitofPassion  Před 2 lety

      Hi Jonathan, thanks. Nope those are not an option, it's actually included in the spray deck! It is curved PVC piping that you install in the sleeve in front of the cockpit. I did a build video on the spray deck if you like to see what's involved. czcams.com/video/r7e58ATIe7A/video.html Good luck and enjoy your new deck!
