Impressed? Go see what they did to John Lennon's Imagine. Then go see what they did to Daft Punk. Like rap? Go check out Can't Hold Us (Macklemore & Lewis). Want sass? Check out Problem (Ariana Grande). How about instrumental? They did a song that doesn't have any words... and won a Grammy for it... The Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy. You have a long journey before you... enjoy!

I've heard that Brian May put this out on his social media with the word "Enjoy." The starry sky was, of course, an homage to Dr. May who is an astrophysicist. Avi, dark beard, is an opera trained basso profundo and has been known to blow out speakers with his low notes. Kevin, beatboxer, is a true Renaissance man. Plays cello and sax, graduate of Yale in premed, speaks Mandarin and some Spanish. Mitch, counter tenor, has been called a chameleon as he may look different in every video.
The band has been together since 2011 with only one change in personnel. They have 3 Grammys, several gold and platinum albums, made several world tours with sold-out venues, appeared at the LA Forum and Madison Square Garden in 2019.

Remember Avi Kaplan amicably at the end of 2017. He was replaced by Matt Sallee. The only personnel change in 10 years. Kirstie and Mitch change their look a lot, from hairstyle, and hair color etc. They LOOK like new members, but the bass change is the only newish member!

  • @heinleinreader
    @heinleinreader Před rokem +2

What is most surprising to me about this song, and I am not disrespectful of what they did that won Grammy Awards (those three deserved it) was how this song was never even nominated for one. This one and the Prayer as well, plus a couple of their Christmas songs. Pentatonix deserves far more than just the three Grammy winners.

Welcome to PTX rabbit hole. We Pentaholics welcome you but fair warning. Their excellence and
    Creativity is addictive and mind
blowing! They try always and especially
here to respect the original artists!!!
So. It’s all real. Just their voices
They only record what they can produce live. If they use an instrument. You will see it.
Mitch, Scott and Kirstie grew up together
And have been singing together since childhood..their harmonies are so tight.
Kevin the beat boxer is a for real genius.
He graduated pre med from Yale, spent a year plus in China and speaks fluent Mandarin. He has perfect pitch
And is a gifted cellist. On some of their
Videos he plays cello and beat boxes at same time🤯. Avi. Is a trained opera bass. He was PTX from 2011-2017
He left on friendly terms for family illness and then Matt became new bass
    Mitch and Kirstie change up
Their look in every video but it’s always them. Please play some more of PTX

There is no need to apologize (in the text overlay). Be aware, we Pentaholics have seen these videos 100's if not 1000's of times. I highly recommend making the video 50% to 60% transparent so whats behind the video also alters what the algorithm sees. For the text overlay, I suggest simply put a few lines of info, like line 1: "Pentatonx covering", line 2 "Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen".

For some more crazy, they have done two EDM songs - Daft Punk : medley of 7 or so Daft Punk EDM songs (mostly French House) and Love Again, an original that is perhaps even stranger. Kevin works very hard on these songs doing synth drums, fades/drops and other special effects.
The arrangement of Daft Punk got them a grammy.

  • @susansisson366
    @susansisson366 Před 2 lety +2

There is a YT video that shows the "Making Bohemian Rhapsody with Pentatonix." I recommend you check it out so your natural curiosity gets satisfied. They filmed it on one night, but literally prepped for that one night for years, waiting until they were ready to do it. Since they are, themselves, the instruments, each person's individual part doesn't sound like a song is being sung, so much as they are various parts of a grand organ playing in a great cathedral. It takes precision and perfect pitch and hours and hours of practice. But they are this good, and the results are perfection, each and every time!

  • @susanb4213

The Grassi Guitar does not require a megaphone. It is just a prop to draw attention to who is making the sound. I heard it done live and it was EPIC.
This is the best cover of this song that I have ever heard. Most Pentatonix covers improve the original song but this song is so iconic that they could not improve it only come close to being as good.

Scott tall blonde and Mitch have known each other since they were 10. Kirstie joined them in junior high and they became the Trio. For the Sing Off they needed at least 5 members so Scott found Kevin the beat boxer on a You Tube channel. Then found Avi through a friend of a friend and Pentatonix was born. That's Mitch's voice, he does it on tours without the bullhorn. You should hear him when he imitates the noise a sharpie makes when your writing with it, or his whistle notes.

If you want to see where they came from, check out the journey on 'The Sing Off, which they won. However, a week later the record label dropped them because they didn't know how to promote acapella. So, the group took to CZcams and started posing covers. Eventually SME picked them up but that's why they've stayed humble and so appreciative of their fans. The best vids I've seen of their journey are from mrduckbear, it's definitely a great intro to the group and a way to see how far they've come!

Although they've gotten a bit more experimental with their latest all-original album The Lucky Ones (as far as layering and effects on their voices that can't necessarily be recreated in an acoustic live performance), most of their catalog can be (and has been) recreated live by them. The few production techniques they use on their albums are basic layering, EQ, reverb and echo, autotune as an effect if it was used in the original song, and there was some distortion on Mitch's voice in the "guitar" solo to capture the rock guitar sound. But they have always prided themselves on being able to perform their songs live, many of them have been performed acoustically for private performances, and you can find them on CZcams. They do this song live, without a backing track...including the operatic bridge, which was something even the great Freddy Mercury and Queen couldn't do.

Hello Harrison! Loved your reaction. Just discovered your channel and just watched your PTX Sound of Silence Reaction and now Bohemian Rhapsody. This is Pure Pentatonix Perfection. A Capella at its very best and redefined by PTX. So glad that you recognize their talent, their creativity and the hard work that they do. You are "super trapped" --- by Pentatonix --- LOL ---as are we all, and we love it. I laughed when you said the drums sounded "legit" that is the skill of Kevin. Then I thought, what will you say when you hear the electric guitar from Mitch. The definition of A Capella is "without instrumental accompaniment" but PTX have redefined this -- they don't only sing, the ARE the instruments!! Wait as you continue to discover the talent of each of them individually and all five of them together. You have about 200 PTX songs waiting for your reactions - covers and originals, more if you count the live performances that are must see. I see on the playlist that you have continued to react to PTX so I have subscribed to your channel to join you for this journey. See you down the rabbit hole. This going to be such fun!!

In an interview the group said they arrange songs with Ben Bram, their long-time collaborator. Then they rehearse, sometimes as much as 10-12 hours at a time. You may notice the bass in different in this video. Avi Kaplan was the bass from their founding until late 2017. Avi left amicably at the end of 2017. Matt Sallee joined them as the new bass for their Christmas tour in 2017. It may look like other members have changed. They have NOT. In particular, Mitch and Kirstie, change their looks frequently. So frequently we PENTAHOLICS call them chameleons. But Mitch, Scott, Kirstie (who went to the same high school in Arlington, TX.) have been with the group since 2011! Beatboxer Kevin Olusola has also been with them since 2011. Pentatonix never records anything they can’t sing live. I can vouch for them-I’ve been to two concerts so far!

Funny watching you hear this for the first time. LOL 😆 🤣 😂 I was laughing and talking to you telling you "yes this is real". Loved your reaction. They (Pentatonix) are the real deal. They undoubtedly are the best a cappella group in the world. So many good songs to choose from...where to even begin???
I recommend their Grammy winner Daft Punk and their 90's Dance Medley next. Their newest one "The Prayer" is one of their best works to date. It is definitely Grammy worthy. Welcome to the Pentaholics and I look forward to your journey through PTX.

Now you have been exposed to more of the range of their talents, which are essentially unbounded. You are exactly right - talent and creativity, along with superb arrangements. Every single song they do has all of these things, as well as great innovativeness. So very many more for you to be stunned by - and I love the fact that you were stunned.

The megaphone is just a prop for the video. When they sing this in a live performance, Mitch makes the same sound with his voice.

When Brian May (lead guitarist with Queen) saw this performance HE was amazed at what PTX was able to do with this. He watched Mitch Grassi with a megaphone produce his guitar solo, complete with wah-wah.

Welcome to the PTX rabbit hole. It takes a while to believe there are no instruments, only humans making those sounds. But what’s also amazing is to remember there’s only 5 voices making all of the sounds. It often sounds like a full orchestra!

Then check out the live version from their Christmas Special to see how they never do anything they can't replicate on stage in a live performance.
