That's unfortunate, the battery meter thing hasn't happened to me yet (I've only had the RG280v for just over a year now). It's a pretty weird thing to occur.
Have you tried switching back to the original firmware? If it's relating to aging hardware, such as a defective charge controller, then it would reflect the problem even when using the manufacturer's firmware. Have you checked the battery terminal or anywhere around where the battery connects for damage such as charring or strange leaking fluids? Maybe you should open up the back, disconnect the battery, and took a look around that area on the board.
I have mine on the OG firmware that it shipped with, I have the dim green light problem. Think it's battery related, something to do with fast charging?
If it still works as intended it might be an os related bug, reflashing might do the trick, or just to be sure disconnect and reconnect the battery.

No I haven't tried that yet. Doing so would mean losing my saves so I want to finish ff6 first
