    Really smart, I've never heard of something like compressing a reverb thank you!

    I just got my first FOH/PM gig on a tour and your videos have been helping me so much to prepare. Mainly your AES50 videos. This one had lots of cool tips as well! Thanks for having such great content man!

    This is not real ducking because you compress send to reverb. You must compress reverb return for real ducking. Problem is that returns donot have compresors. For real ducking effect you must: 1. send vocal to FX bus 2. remove fx bus from LR 3. send FX return tu stereo bus 4. remove FX return from LR 5. compress FX on stereo bus channel 6. set vocal channel as triger for compressor 7. turn on LR on bus. For multiple vocals must use multiple FX and buses. Every vocal must have separate FX and stereo bus.

    If you have multiple vocals though this would probably be more difficult because you would have to do individual reverbs for each vocalist. You could send to bus but then if someone is still singing when one person stops, the reverb will still be compressed

    Great vid. Thanks for the tip but you said when you are EQ-ing the highs out of the reverb for the s's and t's, that you should go to the "returns", but I think u meant to say the " reverb sends" channel

    • @danielkharrat
      @danielkharrat  Před rokem +3

      No, what i meant and what i showed in the video are the returns that come back from the effect into the mix. The send is the bus that goes into the effect. You can eq the sends bus, but i prefer doing it on the returns

  • @andrem.musiek
    @andrem.musiek Před rokem +1

    I had to sacrifice another open channel on my XR18 to do this, the XR18's FX bus does not have compression option as with the input channels 😭. Is it worth ducking delay in the similar way? That would mean sacrificing a third channel.

    • @danielkharrat
      @danielkharrat  Před rokem +1

      You don't need to do it. This is just something extra. You can still dial in the effects without any ducking and you'll be just fine

  • @synthuaxed

    Would it make sense to select a vocal bus or individual vocal channel as the source to trigger the reverb compressor?

    • @danielkharrat
      @danielkharrat  Před 9 měsíci

      Do you want only one channel to trigger the compressor or do you want any channel in the vocal bus to trigger that compressor? It depends on what you want to achieve

    • @user-vf7bl4uy2c
      @user-vf7bl4uy2c Před 9 měsíci

      @@danielkharrat I think he mean every channel on the vocal bus.

  • @willeifler8892
    @willeifler8892 Před 2 lety

    Are you ducking the reverb send bus? The reverb return on the X32 doesn't allow for compression.

    • @danielkharrat
      @danielkharrat  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes I'm ducking the send bus. You can think of the FX Returns as a special kind of channel that has limited functionality but it's not a bus it's a channel that has only a virtual input

    • @willeifler8892
      @willeifler8892 Před 2 lety

      @Daniel Kharrat hmm that did not sound the same for me. I set it up today running the FX back thru another stereo bus, and compressing that. I used the original send bus as the key. That sounded like authentic reverb ducking - very nice.

    • @danielkharrat
      @danielkharrat  Před 2 lety

    Hey, can you sidechain the reverb with multiple key input ?
    For example if you have more than one singer
    Or do you recommand to send them back vocals to another reverb send

    • @danielkharrat
      @danielkharrat  Před měsícem

      @lukeysound no but you can put your vocals in a bus and side chain the reverb to that bus

      You can search on CZcams for the "produce like a pro" channel. Just search something like "produce like a pro free multitracks" and you'll find a ton. Now these are studio recordings not live gigs but they are still very useful to practice mixing

      Unfortunately the link no longer exists, can you upload a link, I really liked the sound your're mixing with the reverbs on x32, those vocals, seem to be a good basis for configuring the effects in a live mix
