- The velvet-voiced Tony Williams leads the Platters in one of the most soaring love songs of all time in this 1959 video performance. Gorgeous violins and the extraordinary Platters backups add to this song about smoke, indeed, getting in the eyes of love.
Tony Williams and Nat King Coke two of the most beautiful voices ever!
Phenomenal voice and range. Tony Williams is one of the greatest singers of all time.
I’ve heard it a million times, his voice is beautiful LOVE the Platters
Velvety chocolate voice. I liked this song the first time I heard it in the 50's. Never gets old.
Tony Williams was untouchable -- the absolute best lead singer any vocal group ever had. Period.
Tony Williams had the most compelling voice of the era..
One the greatest songs ever recorded. The reach, clarity & arrangements. I cry every time i hear this. What has happened to black music. The Platters v Rap. It is no contest. Black music has been reponsible for our understanding of all popular music. Elvis, The Beatles etc are with us because of the music made by black people. We are forever indebted & i'm sure Motown Stax etc artists feel that love & indedtedness like i do. Thankyou so much for this. Xxxx
One of the best songs ever surely?
The best is My Prayer Incredible!
How come they can’t make music like this anymore
it would be imposible for any singer today to sing like this, cos even with all the technology now, sing would have no chance of ever coming close
The singers of today don't have the natural talent of singers of 1950's
He is so effortless! I love GOOD music. I don’t care about genre; give me good music!
absolutely beautiful true..
Totally agree with your comment about his voice being one of the best of all time
When your hearts on fire, you must realize, smoke gets in your eyes…. Wow
Man, you feel the song, the music...I feel the same in this song. I can say , we feel ... thanks ;)
Plus sad river. Amazing
fantastic and majic voice of platters
What a GIFT
Right there with you, dax... Williams definitely makes my Mt Rushmore of male singers of the recorded music era
One of the best that's ever done it. He was something special.
Damn Straight!! Awesome...Thanks!
Couldn't agree more. One of the greatest love songs and one of the best singers I've ever heard. Hairs stand on end every time. I'm nearly 50 and I've been fortunate to have been brought up listening to this music. I'll forever be in debt to my parents.
The platters were always great! Loved them...Mostly every single song. Then Don't forget the Inkspots too!
ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!
Great voice of the last century. Little Jimmy Scott was doing this before Tony Williams
my fave song by the platters is I love you 1000 times

Another timeless voice!
One of the great songs that the platters did and I agree with you agree with you I think he was in the top 5 vocal wonders of all time and when you listen to the song emotionally hes being consumed by the very song hes singing unbelievable
Absolute classic
Velvet indeed!
My mother had this Album.
My boy Jerome Kern wrote "Some Gets in Your Eyes" for the 1933 musical. "Roberta". So, as of this year, the song is 88 years old.
Wow!
What a gem! A shame not many people react to this.
Sou brasileiro e um amante de velhas canções românticas. Esta música entra em meu coração e me transporta para um mundo mágico e maravilhoso. The Platters, o melhor grupo vocal de todos os tempos. Eternamente divinos. 🌹👏🏻👏🏻😘❤️ 🇧🇷
Love the Platters....Charles Bo Grant of Mobile is a friend of mine...still knocks em out...live in Gulf Shores 2021
Spot on bro
Intelligent lyrics beautifully delivered...
Great song. They use to play clubs in the 70's. At the time it was Herb Reed (the short gentleman in the group) and The Original Platters. Saw them 3-4 times and they sounded great.
Nice Dax. The Platters had a number of songs in the American Graffiti movie. I just watched it a couple of nights ago. What a coincidence.
Sempre digo: O Tony foi um dos maiores cantores de todos os tempos..
I agree!!
Yeah, daX. I feel the same... it's so pure and astounding that I can't find words... It's like out of this world and projected here... And I'm sure of that... Thanks for your honest reaction.
as good as it gets

thanks for sharing dax.great assessment of my favorite from tony williams,as well as my dream.i like more of these reviews👍.maybe you could also feature brook benton, clyde mcphatter of the drifters.
Thanks, Frankie. Oh, I will DEFINITELY get to the Drifters sometime soon.
The song “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” predates The Platters by 25 years. This song was written for the 1933 Broadway musical “Roberta” with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Otto Harbach. It was first performed by Tamara Drasin in the original Broadway production. You can hear Ms Drasin sing the original Broadway version here: czcams.com/video/50QO9vW9iUo/video.html
Thank you. Ms. Drasin’s version sounds rather perfunctory, but the tune is certainly catchy. Hard to believe this song is that old. Thanks again
What about reacting to Eddie Holman, HEY THERE LONELY GIRL LIVE
By Jerome Kern.

This type of old movie goes right thru me. I can't stand to watch them anymore, soooo over produced.
