Bruuu Real talk, I think the majority of content creators go through this exact phase and feelings at some point in the career. It’s a continuous roller coaster and you just gotta keep fighting and finding a way through it all. I feel the same way as u at the moment and it’s great how u captured the emotion and perspective of all of this. Depression isn't necessarily measured by how bad you feel but by how little you feel. Feeling numb is your emotional immune system attacking a weight that might be unbearable in the moment, so that when you have the strength to, you can carry it with your full might.
Passion of the Nerd Exactly this. I know I'm depressed when I just stop feeling anything at all, happy or sad.
Yes, what bothers me is uneducated CZcamsrs suggesting depression is having a bad day..You just turn it off,by doing something positive and upbeat .You can't just turn it off and on. its a physical condition a chemical imbalance in the brain that effects your entire body,throught process..

I’ve started feeling like I’m only making videos that other people want rather than ones that I’ve enjoyed making. I decided last week that I’m going to start making the content that I like first and foremost and it’s a wonderful feeling (I can already see my passion coming back in a video I’m working on now). Dan you should do a podcast. Your ideas, thought process, real life issues and experiences are ones that so many people around the globe relate to. The stories you tell are ones that cause realization and revitalization in myself, and many others. Struggle, pain, anxiety and stress are just a few of thousands of reasons people tell themselves they can’t or shouldn’t do something. But your drive, passion and creativity are some of the strongest I’ve ever seen, and ones that set a prime example of how everyone should (at least try to) overcome their fears and roadblocks. Please consider a podcast, because the world needs to hear your story, and your story needs to be heard by the world.

you actually shouldn't upload on a regular basis because then it'll always lack in quality. That's why casey stopped vlogging - feeling pressured to do something awesome people wan't vloggers to do - but actually not wanting to do that thing.

Dan's style is unique indeed. The video starts with a lot of things happening so fast and by the end of the video everything makes so much sense. He is able to create a roller-coaster of emotions... it's amazing man!

Holy shit Dan I just saw this. We're all behind you, a lot of us including myself fight /fought depression everyday. We are allowed to have bad days, one thing I found is to keep people in your life that understand the balance of a bad day with a good day.
We're all out here making videos of our lives, make sure you remember this is your life. No one else's. Find what you love and focus on that!
BTW, the color grading in this film was incredible. You're becoming one of my favorite editors style wise.

This message is so relatable to me. There have been so many occasions where I've found myself struggling to create something that meets my own perfectionistic standards. It often feels like I have a head that is so loud and full of ideas but none of them are good enough. I've also encountered that feeling of having what you think is a breakthrough idea, only to find hours later that it no longer speaks to you like it did when you first came up with it. It's a kind of beautiful madness that in the moment may be frustrating, but when you take the time to reflect on it you realize that that's what it's all about. Not just creating, but life in general.

The message reminded me a bit of a quote from East of Eden -- a story with true sadness has far more impact than staged happiness...it's not a negative thing. It's real: “There is more beauty in truth, even if it is a dreadful beauty. The storytellers at the city gate twist life so that it looks sweet to the lazy and the stupid and the weak, and this only strengthens their infirmities and teaches nothing, cures nothing, nor does it let the heart soar.”
WHEN I WAS A YOUNG LAD at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, I felt like my work was no where close to the look and feel of my classmates. I was sooo discouraged, so upset with myself, I was no artist. But now, 40 years later, I dig out that portfolio once in a while, because, it WAS good! It DID have the look I was going after! And even now, with all that maturity and wisdom...it's still never good enough...

Whenever I get stressed about my next video, I come back to this and it calms me down. If my passion gets me stressed to the point of panicking, maybe it's time to change the set of rules to the ones that make me happy. Thank you Dan for this little video, I'm aware that you moved on into different things and I'm happy for you and I'm having a feeling that this video is a bad memory for you and that's ok. Still...there is an underlying truthfulness into this that genuinely helps me.
