INTONATIONS: Songs from the Violins of Hope is an unforgettable song cycle inspired by the collection of lovingly restored instruments that were owned and played by Jews before and during the Holocaust. Through Jake Heggie’s music and Gene Scheer’s lyrics, the songs relate the extraordinary voyages of the violins and their owners. Featuring The Metropolitan Opera star mezzo soprano Sasha Cooke, and Mikhail Shmidt as solo violinist. In the Dybbuk Suite, Donald Byrd’s brilliant choreography brings a new dimension to Joel Engel’s music for the iconic Yiddish play. Spectrum Dance Theater company members Joel Myers and Kylie Lewallen bring the star-crossed lovers of the folk legend to life in a fresh way for today’s world.

We tell stories that communicate urgent lessons for today, and we look beyond the Holocaust itself to the experience of others who have been excluded or persecuted for their faith, ethnicity, gender or sexuality.
