A great option for any new guitarist, the Washburn Sonamaster

  • With nearly every guitar in this price range looking like a copy of a copy of a copy it is a nice to see something with some vibes to it. Washburn didn't reinvent the wheel with the Sonamaster, but I think it stands out from the sea of "S" style guitars with a slimmed down body, a great neck, and a fun reverse head stock. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for the video. I have a cousin who used to play in a band when he was a teenager and stopped playing for some unknown reason. He doesn't even know what he did with his guitar, but has said he wanted to start playing again. I'm gifting him this weekend a new Washburn Sonamaster in the transparent black and a Fender Frontmaster 15G practice amp. I think he will be surprised and hope it entices him to start playing again. Thanks again for the video.

Thanks for watching. Transparent black? That sounds like one of the new models they released this past year! I have two on back order so I haven't seen that finish in person yet, but the photos I have seen look really cool.

I bought the black humbucker version in a store and really like it as it’s comfortable to play compared to my heavy but gorgeous-sounding Les Paul type. I would warn against buying online as most of the models in the shop had sharp fret edges. I was able to choose one with perfectly finished fretwork. There’s an example of the newer deluxe model on the official website and the tone examples there are pretty accurate. If you get a good one it’s a bargain and in my mind just as good as a Squire but at a basement price. Tuning is good and the truss bar adjustment and bridge piece are easy to adjust. Tuners are standard and there are no clicks from the nut. The neck is very nice with a quality finish. The feel of the fretboard has improved over time but was a little dry at first and to time to play in. In short definitely recommended but play in a shop before buying.

Hi. Thanks for the video. What's the fretboard radius on that Sonamaster? 9.5 inch or a 12inch?

Have you reviewed a Washburn SDFSB yet? I'm looking at getting one and would like to see how it compares to other guitars in the same price range. I liked the one I've played.

Did you notice any buzzing frets on this guitar?
