If you live in a true small town that remains untouched by big city influences you really know what this guy is talkin about. Take it from a guy who was born and raised in the backwoods of Kentucky and is proud to be from the south. You just dont get hospitality like this in the north or out west.
This is one of those songs that struck a cord deep down in me. There are not many that get to the heart of what a person is and this one is like a bio for many of us. Thanks for one hell of a good song.
we do because its real life. this song is honesty. i was born and raised in NJ and its city liberal all day everyday. Crime and bullcrap with people never taking responsibility for their actions and people not earning for themselves. i live in south dakota now and the pride and respect these folks take in their workforce is second to NONE. if you hop out of your pickup sweaty and covered in mud from a hard day's work, you are treated as a king. Respected for holding your own.
I may live in Minnesota and not necessarily in a small town but I consider myself a Bible carrying Gun slinging true blooded AMERICAN and there isn't anyone who is going to take that away from me without meeting The Good Lord and My Gun!!!!
This is excactly why im joinin the marines so i can help keep places like this safe . I grew up in a small community in southwest Arkansas bout 20 people nearest gas station was about 10 miles. I love it.
Theres 175 people in my town, we gotta bar, party store and a blinkin light at the intersection of two dirt roads, corn and beans is all you see and cattles all you smell, and god do i love it.
i love this song and im proud it was filmed in cairo illinois and josh is a good singer and i work in this poor run down town that our goverment forgot about.this used to be little chicago and now its nothing
It doesn't matter where he's from. Country is Country regardless of geographical location. I am from Alabama and some of the best friends I have ever had are country and from Wisconsin.
I'm from about an hour north of where this was filmed. Good ole southern Illinois. Nothing's more country than this area. Nothing but farming, great hunting and fishing. Hell nothin better
You don't have to be from the South and you don't even have to be an American to be country. The country is everything that isn't urban, and guess what! That's everywhere in between! Proud to be Canadian :)
My favorite line is the opening and closing: Our house is all protected by the good Lord and a gun, you might meet'em both if you show up here not welcome son.
he is from Cedarburg, Wisconsin. But he was raised in the backwoods of Greenbrier, West Virginia. He is a country boy. He worked construction, and at a factory when he was 12 years old. He is not fake.. It doesn't matter where you are from, it is how ya live. An Josh Thompson is a country boy.. No doubt about it.
Koty Wilfong he graduated high school in Cedarburg Wisconsin. he grew up here where I'm from in the north woods where hunting, fishing, farming, and drinking are the main activities people participate in.
Awesome. As a veteran of the first gulf war and a small country town alumni who's moved across the US from Cali to Tennessee, I appreciate it and I love it. So perfect!
god this song makes me cry and feel a sense of pride to be part of the crowd that won't back down to anyone that tries to change the original way of american life and democracy. Get off our backs wall street and D.C. U fixin to come to my town to take our freedoms away then we won't go down without bloodshed way out here! Southern, patriotic, loyal to the forefathers, and fightin for american freedom is the way i live and the way i die
I am 11 and I was raised country,Down In The Dirt,All my family at a fish fry, drinking beer and partying. I love it. I am dam straight hillbilly like my Uncle Brian that has all this bed of his truck filled with crushed empty beer cans.I love this song.It describes me and my family.:D(And my grandma and grandpa were named John And June Cash.Weird huh!
I voted for Obama yet I still listen to this song and other country songs. I love country music. I am half hillbilly so I know whats up and everyone has their own opinions. just wish we could all get along more instead of spreading all this hate! Its not good for our country to be divided. Yes. Hes black we all know that but I say get over that already. You can look past someones skin color and not buy into all these fear tactics. Hes our President and hes trying his best in a tough situation.
I Love This Song!!! Best line ever in a song "We have a fighting side a mile wide but we pray for peace but cause it's usually us that end up overseas". Well put Josh. This song rings true to all of us who live in "fly over country"
I've loved his handsome voice...from day one!:)He's a good dude!:)The sweetest guy...I've ever stood in front of...while he was performing with his band!:) One who will never forget you dude....It's Me!:)
Cairo Illinois!!!! best backdrop for anything you could want! This video shows most of what is not here anymore. I write this from the other side of Cairo and I have to say what a long way we have come. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers just upgraded our flod protection(best in the Ohio or Mississippi river valleys). Now we are getting fast food chains and tearing down anything that has been left to ruin. We have upgraded the police force and both fire departments are well equipped and trained and have manpower at their disposal. Come live or build a business in Cairo IL. We will always be grateful to anyone who will maintain a house and pay taxes. and by the way we just got road and street funding so no more potholes and our water is maintained by Illinois American so water service is more than adequate for fire flows and the sewers run good and the electricity is rarely a problem. Cairo is the place to be and beautiful to boot!!!
Thank you,Lord😭😭😭😭for making me a country boy and showing me the woods💙💙💙Hearing this song brings tears of happiness to my eyes knowin I have dusty scuffed Ariats and that the woods have lots of love to offer💙💙
Whenever I say I'm from New York everybody thinks of N.Y. city. I'm from western N.Y. and grew up in the middle of farm country. Apple orchards, corn fields, and cows. I've never seen N.Y. city. The "laws" Josh sings about are here too.
@MrBluesboy12 Amen dude . I'm from Washington state. I got boots, truck, gun, bible, land, tractor, dog, and a family. I bleed red just like any southern folks. I'm Country and proud. God bless America, those who love it, and those who fight for it.
This isn't just about COUNTRY. I live up in rural Michigan, and this applies to us to a T. Country ain't just a "Southern" thing. This is a song about a way of life.
I heard this song the other day for the first time. I think it is great! I enjoy the song and was shocked to see all of the politics and haters posting comments here... Just enjoy the music and the man's work...
Love this song and his line, "We won't take a dime if we ain't earned it/ When it comes to weight brother we pull our own." Wish more people in this country lived like that. Great song, Josh!! Keep 'em comin'!
Love, love, LOVE this song! Even though I live in the city, I totally agree with the sentiments of this song. We need more real Americans like this. God bless you Josh.
I miss back home on the farm. We got about 400 head of cattle and I train(ed) horses. But now I'm away because of the Army. Damn I miss the cowgirl life and my stud, Sam. Ya don't know what you got til you don't have it anymore. Oh, and for those fighting over North vs South, I'm from the NORTH (New England, actually), I'm backwoods, and I serve in the military. But anyway, good song. Makes me miss everything. Hooah!
I picture him talking to Al-Qaeda when he says, "Our houses are protected by the good Lord and a gun, and you might meet 'em both if you show up here not welcome son". F'n sweet!!!
i got to meet this man last week at the H20 tour in daytona. He preformed amazing and when i met him i was surprised. i was expecting the usual preppy rich singer who doesnt give a crap about his fans, but when i shook his hand, i realized he isnt that way at all. we talked for a second, and hes absoutely what he stands for. This is my favorite song and he is my favorite singer now. 10 starts Josh

@LetFr33DomRing Amen brother.I'm from Montana but I see it everywhere from the west to the south. People in the cities are clueless about the realities in this country.
I live in Indianapolis, but the area I hunt in is like this song. I love it... and actually, the southside of Indianapolis is a little like this. I mean, everybody knows my family or knows someone who knows a relative of mine. Its a big suburban area, but sometimes it feels like a small town.
If you live in a true small town that remains untouched by big city influences you really know what this guy is talkin about. Take it from a guy who was born and raised in the backwoods of Kentucky and is proud to be from the south. You just dont get hospitality like this in the north or out west.

Theres 175 people in my town, we gotta bar, party store and a blinkin light at the intersection of two dirt roads, corn and beans is all you see and cattles all you smell, and god do i love it.
