LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - People are still talking about Tuesday night’s sold out Kentucky Rising concert. The show was headlined by Johnson County native Chris Stapleton and featured fellow eastern Kentuckians Dwight Yoakam and Tyler Childers. It was organized by Stapleton after the July floods. Eastern Kentucky artists Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless made surprise appearances. “Thanks for coming out tonight for a good cause, help some folks out that need some help,” Stapleton told the crowd of more than 13,000. “That’s what we do here in Kentucky. It’s a wonderful feeling, people doing good things for good reasons.” (source: www.wkyt.com/2022/10/13/it-was-just-emotional-kentucky-rising-raises-more-than-25-million-flood-relief/)
Wow, what an emotional rendition!!!!
AMEN TO THAT ❣
What an incredible performance.
Man alive what voice, thanks.
Thank u and thank Jesus for real people, real life and REAL ❤️
Will you put this woman in the Country Music Hall of Fame, please!!!!!!!! She's a national treasure. That voice! It's incredible STILL.
YES IT IS!! 💜 ❤️ 💜 ❤️ 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👍 👍 👍
She’s not?!!! Well that’s one of Nashville’s greatest sins then.
It’s a damn shame , I live in ky and am very proud to share these same woods with all the ky legends!!! It will happen
glenn212now you are absolutely right!!! 💯 million percent PURE TRUTH 🙏👍💞🤗💞
She's not in there?!?! That's a travesty. She should 100% be in there. Hopefully, one day.
Patty Loveless is one of the BEST country music singers we have ever had!
Patty Loveless is just incredible. Aging gracefully, still beautiful and a voice that just gets better with age, like fine wine.
Eastern Kentucky here, I’m a coal miners daughter, granddaughter, sister and wife, proud of my coal miners 🖤🪨
I love every second of it but watching Morgan next to Patty and the looks she gives her… absolute adoration ❤
This is an easy thing for Chris because he is such a high quality musician that he can call legends to sing with him
When she sings the line, ". . . where you spend your days digging coal out the bottom of your grave . . ." makes my arm & neck hair stand on end every time.
I've been in love with her voice since the late 80s. She is a Kentucky legend and a national treasure. There are a few others that I hold as KY legends, unfortunately Nashville doesn't play their music. Tyler Childers and Sturgill Simpson
If this doesn’t stir your soul your not alive
There has never been a more country music song made or sung then this.
My Grandmother would always watch The Grand Ole' Opry on tv. She loved music so much & if she were here sitting with me watching this wonderful trio, she would be so happy.
Then I realized, her spirit is & that's why this song touches me so deeply!
The vocal singing goes back to the old bluegrass and folk music of the Appalachians that came over with the Immigrants from Scotland and Ireland. I couldn't believe I was hearing it for a minute. It almost brought tears to my eyes
THIS IS THE REAL DEAL...HONEST COUNTRY MUSIC...LOVE IT
This is country folks… we will never see folks like Miss Patty again.
A masterclass on how real country music is meant to be played. No posing or flash, just pure passion and talent.
Amen!
I've said since the 80's that this lady is the most underrated voice in country music. That stands true today.
Absolutely!!
Yes she is
Love Morgane
Absolutely❤.. and I love the was Chris humbly steps back to give her, her well deserved dues
How this woman is not in the hall of fame is nothing but a damn shame
I'm not even from Kentucky but this version always gives me chills.
Must be because I really did marry a coal miner's daughter......can't seem to get the West Virginia out of her. 😄
Patty never left her bluegrass roots, and it's kept her evergreen in the hearts of country people. God bless you, Patty; I hope you sing forever.
Who ever said you don't get better with age should hear this woman. Slwsys loved her always will.
The world NEEDS more Patty Loveless singing live!!!!
The way Morgane looks at Patty is awestruck and how blessed she is to be there with her ❤
Amen
If that didn't touch your heart. You don't have one.
Doing what it takes to surviiive.
She is the best.
My grandfather worked for Harlan Coal. Lived and died in Harlan.
She hops off the couch and within an hours time put a glimmer of hope back into country music.. long live my queen of country music
I love the way Chris Stapleton looks at patty loveless. So much respect. I’m sure this was a hard song for her to sing. I bet everyone in that auditorium felt this so much. I was in tears I can’t imagine them not being.
I was absolutely speechless, amazing!!!!! It gives me chills watching the video of this!!!!!
I don't want to offend anybody but Patty Loveless is Country Music. There's some out there who could be a true country singer... Patty has recorded 2 different albums featuring music like Harlan.. These songs will never be played on radio but a gift from Patty to her die hard fans. Patty, all those people who were cheering for you was overdue. Thank you.
I love the way Chris’s wife looks so in awe at Patty singing true respect!
She raised her hands like she was singing a praise and worship song ✋
The three part harmony is instant chemistry.
His wife is some kind of a singer in her own right! I like her as well as I like her hubs.
And she doesn’t even know how powerful she is herself! I loveee this
@@Ssstinkerbell1 she doesn’t even know how magical and powerful she is herself ! I’m ready for the world to know Morgane stapleton
I was born and raised in Harlan, KY. I met Patti at the 1986 Telluride BGF where I first saw her do that song. I’m a reasonably smart and articulate man, but words cannot describe the emotions when I hear that song.
Her voice calls you home from where ever you’ve wandered.
God knows that’s true.
You’re exactly right!!!
Yel
all i can say to that is ... amen.
Amen.
Boyd County
OMG the best of the best, Patty, Morgan, & Chris & the band
5-12-2024👍
God blessPatty Loveless! The coal miners she sings about were real people who were little more than indentured servants, They worked in the mines, lived in mine company owned housing, and were paid in script that was only redeemable at the company store. My grandfather was a coal miner in West Virginia. He told me about lying on his back while picking at coal above his head only to occasionally dig into a methane gas pocket that would be set ablaze by the carbide lamp on his helmet. He left the mines and later succumbed to black lung. And, yes, this was in the United States of America in the 20th century. We cannot imagine such things today, but if we look to the forgotten coal country of Appalachia today, we will find abandoned towns, endemic and wide spread unemployment and poverty. Millions suffer today due to the utter disregard for human life by King Coal.
thank you for this informative post.
I come back again and again.... I listen and shed tears. This is what life and vocation are about..... I don't know how to express what I feel... But is what Life is About !
She is COUNTRY. And it comes out in her voice. In her attitude. In her humbleness despite being a massive voice in the world of American musice
Very humble😊
This might be the closest, you’ll ever get to Country Music Church. You wont find this in a bible…But it lives in your minds and hearts.
I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina listening to this music. It’s our dna and it’ll never change.
Beautifully said ❤️
Chills and tears. Coal miner's daughter here. Lost two uncles in the mines. The miners and their families paid dear prices for the coal companies to live richly. Sad sad. Patty Loveless is a treasure! Love the Stapletons too!
Patty Loveless…that’s country music royalty right there.
Aint no swan song, just a second coming
As someone from E. KY, I approve of this video.
Thank you Chris for bringing Patty back to all who love her and her great voice! ❤
So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song! Hello
She never left us !!!!
And everything else that just made this happen!
Darrell Scott never gets his due credit. Beautiful version. Everyone go give DS some love.
Right on, Darrell is a class act.
Born and raised in eastern Kentucky. Coal way the life line in my town. My 62 year old father still hauls coal. I'll be taking my underground classes this January. Coal is the only way I can see to have a better future
Patty Loveless....the best there ever was....and ever will be.
True that Chris Stapleton. ❝ She's one of the greatest country music singers that has ever lived or ever will live. ❞ Thank you Chris!
The Queen is dead. Long live the Queen! Loretta-torch- Patty!
What an Awesome, Beautiful voice. Nothing but pure and beautiful. Way way under estimated.
She's Awesome Hall of Fame for Sure
Sing it Patty😊😊😊. Shivers all down my back, miss your singing girl. Come back and sooth our hearts hear in Kentucky. New album🙏🙏🙏🙏
The best female country singer ever. None can touch you, Patty!
Patty should definitely be in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Incredible. Incomparable. Inductee worthy.
Thank you Christopher Stapleton for bring Patty Loveles back
Darrell Scott gave this song life but Patty gave it a soul.
Gem of da hills. Of black coal Kentucky. Gem history tells us. True American Greatness!!!’
Great job getting her out of hiding Chris, we all missed her! She still looks and sounds as great as she always has and looked so happy and honored to be there. Good for you Patty!
Just when u think he can't do anything any bigger....he gets the queen. Never had chills like this. Thank u so much for this
With Ms. Loretta gone Patty is the new Kentucky Queen
Nice to hear Patty sing this song: here in the Appalachian mountains of ky, we have actually played this song! After a hard week's work in the sawmill people can hear us from one mountain ridge to another, me and my kinfolks worked The coalmine for many generations until the government started shutting them down one by one! There's one thing they can't take from us is our pride and land this is where our roots are! And is where we will be replanted like my dad and his dad before him, for the past 200 years..
This IS what true country is all about...songs about KENTUCKY and about the soul of the coal mining industry.
Show me anyone else, I mean ANYONE, that can sing just as good (if not better) than they did 30 yrs ago. Thank you Chris for bringing this gift back to us. ❤
The most beautiful voice ever i grew up on her music and my children will grow up on this music
This is a REAL daughter of country music legend! Not the computerized pitch corrected crap that you hear on the radio.
I can’t believe how good she sounds. She’s been so missed. I’ll happily start the petition for a Stapleton/Loveless collaboration album
OMG, this Awesome Lady is a Queen among all of Country Music. She is WAY beyond even cozening up to Vince Gill. She outshines them all.
Oh my goodness. This performance is magical.
One of the best country female singers of all time!
Top ten of any singers, not just female.
She’s the real queen
@@bertblue9683 yes! Male or female, Patty can’t be beat
Agreed! Patties voice is just so damn natural.
Absolutely
She needs to be in the Country Music Hall of Fame. She is terrific.
Hi Kim 💐💐
That woman’s voice has just gotten better and better
As an Eastern Kentucky native and someone who comes from 4 generations of coal miners, this song always gives me chills
Second generation coal miner in Virginia though 10 miles from Harlan in linden va umwa local 1607
@@larryholle7971 I'm a native of Letcher County Kentucky
My family harlan ky
Also born and raised in Letcher County Kentucky
Where you from?
Boyd County.
This song means a lot to me, my Dads name is Harlan, the family farm was in eastern Kentucky. Tobacco was the main crop. Dad died 32 years ago at age 67. Tobacco and mining killed him and all his brothers
The good lord loves a mountain girl. ❤️
If this song don't give you chills you must not have a heart, hauntingly beautiful. Me and most of my family are from Eastern Kentucky. We know exactly what these words mean from experience.
Now this was a rare gift. Patty Loveless with Chris Stapleton. The Lady's still got it. This was so much fun to watch.
Current “country” women could learn allot from her. ❤
Chris and his wife have let Patty do what she has been put on earth to
Patty, you are the sound of Appalachia! The words of this song and the sound of your voice literally painted the picture of this song
and it’s story. Your duet with Vince Gill on Go Rest High was also unmatched! I’ve visited Kentucky and the people there are as real as you are!
I just heard this song for the first time tonight on the CMAs. Patty's voice in that performance literally stopped me in my tracks as I was walking past the TV and drew me in. I couldn't move until this hauntingly beautiful song was done and I immediately went to search online which lead me here. Amazing.
That was a good performance, but this one is really more about Patty. The CMA song featured Chris too, who I also like. But this is a showcase for Patty.
The same thing happened to me and I'm so glad I did because I can't stop listening to it 💗
@@Happykarla4000 truly amazing
@@csmith5420 true
The first time I heard this song was on one of Brad Paisley's albums. His is good as well, but Patty singing this is hauntingly beautiful. She never got the recognition that she rightly deserves!!!
Patty loveless is a treasure ❤
An absolutely gorgeous rendition. Thank you, Ms. Loveless. You have given us a heartfelt rendition of what it takes to spend one's life supporting one's family and making a decent life possible for those we love.
There has been no better man than your father!!
God bless and keep you.
Most have no idea what this song means. God bless the coal miners
That is Greatness!!! I love this so much❤
So thankful to have had Patty in my heart all these years!
Deep soul country music!
How good is this..
I'm a classic rock fan normally..V.H. Eagles..Fleetwood Mac etc.
But Im a lover of Patty's voice.
Saw her in Owensboro Ky ,Back in the 90's
The look of pure admiration on Mrs. Stapleton's face while the great Patty Loveless sings...
How had I not known this existed till now….I’m moved to tears. Patty is a voice that brings me back to my childhood and I love Morgane and Chris all the more for doing this.
It's from Patty's Mountain Soul Record around 2000 or 2001 her best Record she ever made I think.
Patty needs no backing vocals. She’s an amazing talent
Chris's wife facial expression says it all.what awesome talent on that stage
Today she would be considered too country for country music, but she can out sing any artist today country or otherwise. What a strong, powerful & pure voice. And “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive” is my favorite song of hers.
In the deep dark hills of eastern Kentucky
That's the place where I trace my bloodline
And it's there I read on a hillside gravestone
"You'll never leave Harlan alive"
Oh, my grandfather's dad crossed the Cumberland Mountains
Where he took a pretty girl to be his bride
Said, "Won't you walk with me, out of the mouth of this holler
or we'll never leave Harlan alive"
Where the sun comes up about ten in the mornin'
And the sun goes down about three in the day
And you fill your cup with whatever bitter brew you're drinkin'
And you spend your life just thinkin' of how to get away
No one ever knew there was coal in them mountains
Till a man from the northeast arrived
Wavin' hundred dollar bills, said, "I'll pay you for your minerals"
But he never left Harlan alive
Grandma sold out cheap and they moved out west of Pineville
To a farm where Big Richland River winds
And I bet they danced them a jig
And they laughed and sang a new song
"Who said we'd never leave Harlan alive"
But the times they got hard and tobacco wasn't sellin'
And old granddad knew what he'd do to survive
He went and dug for Harlan coal
And sent the money back to grandma
But he never left Harlan alive
Where the sun comes up about ten in the mornin'
And the sun goes down about three in the day
And you fill your cup with whatever bitter brew you're drinkin'
And you spend your life diggin' coal from the bottom of your grave
You'll never leave Harlan alive
OK Wow.. this is like it is! Thanks all for being you today!
Seeing this made me think of Tanya Tucker's resurgence. There is so much talent out of the limelight we need back making music.
Dang, I'm balling my eyes out, what an emotional song. Whether coal mines, cotton fields, cotton mills, this brings to mind my grand parents and Greats. Hard working folks who did whatever necessary to take care of their families.
Amen
Amen
We still do. Keeps the lights on in our great towns. Coal lives
Wow, her voice is amazing on this song.
She is a distant cousin to Loretta Lynn & Crystal Gayle.... All With Beautiful Voices !!
💖💕⚘️💕⚘️💕💖
Such a rich history, I hear it from those long ago settlers .
Her voice has never sounded better!!! Chills!!

@@renniebutts3568 oh you can go listen to my songs okay.. where are you from
Man! That woman has soul. Most of us never find the thing we’re that good at, and even those who do find their own genius don’t usually hold onto it that long.
Beautifully said.
Amen
My mama was born and raised in Johnson County, she was a Paintsville girl! Papaw was a semi-pro boxer when he was a young man, then a coal miner, a welder, and a grocer. My great Papaw was a conductor for the C & O. My mamaws were so sweet and loving❤
Dang. She still has it. And she’s having a ball!
Miss Patty's still got it! That was perfect!
Hi Connie 💐💐
Simple and to the point. Patty's beauty shines. Country music needs a lot more of simple and to the point. Her voice and emotion still still brings the songs to life. This world needs more of the salt of earth people like her. She's humble and has no ego about her. When artist allow the music to take center stage magic happens. She's one of a kind.
So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song! Hello
She is legend & her voice hasn't changed at all & the heart she puts into the song brings it alive. You're right about letting the music not musician taking center stage. It is truly magical
Too many don't have enough talent to sing without frills & staging. Very few greats anymore- just lots of pop junk.
So well said. Thank you
@@diannebraunlich8342 how long have you been listening to my songs
Stapleton stand to the side' Patty doesn't need no introduction.
