- Q&A with Mads Mikkelsen. Moderated by James Rocchi
Directed and co-written by Thomas Vinterberg, THE HUNT is a disturbing depiction of how a lie becomes the truth when gossip, doubt and malice are allowed to flourish and ignite a witch-hunt that soon threatens to destroy an innocent man's life. Mads Mikkelsen won the Best Actor Award at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival for his penetrating portrayal of Lucas, a former school teacher who has been forced to start over having overcome a tough divorce and the loss of his job. Just as things are starting to go his way, his life is shattered when an untruthful remark throws his small community into a collective state of hysteria. As the lie spreads, Lucas is forced to fight a lonely fight for his life and dignity.
Co-founder of the Dogme movement and director of award-winning international hit FESTEN (THE CELEBRATION), Thomas Vinterberg delivers yet another powerful drama that is sure to leave its mark. THE HUNT, which was co-written by Vinterberg and Tobias Lindholm (whose credits also include A HIJACKING, which he wrote and directed), won the 2012 European Film Awards Best Screenwriter prize and was nominated for prizes in a number of other categories, including Best Film, Director and Actor.
THE HUNT is produced by Morten Kaufmann and Sisse Graum Jørgensen for Zentropa Entertainments in co-production with Film I Väst and Zentropa International Sweden with support from The Danish Film Institute, DR, Eurimages, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, Svenska Film Institutet, SVT and the MEDIA Programme of the European Union. Nordic distribution by Nordisk Film Distribution. International sales by TrustNordisk.
Internationally acclaimed and multi-award winning actor Mads Mikkelsen is the top male star in his native Denmark. Mads Mikkelsen was born in 1965. After attending the Drama School at Aarhus Theatre, he made his film debut in the movie PUSHER (1996), which was directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, with whom he made BLEEDER (1999) and PUSHER II (2004). Later, he played the leading role in the Emmy Award-winning Danish TV show UNIT ONE (2000-2004). Mads Mikkelsen showcased his comic talents with his leading roles in THE GREEN BUTCHERS (2003) and ADAM'S APPLES (2006). He began his international career with his role as Tristan in the movie KING ARTHUR (2004) but his international breakthrough came when he appeared as the Bond villain Le Chiffre in CASINO ROYALE (2006). That same year, he took the leading role in the Oscar®-nominated AFTER THE WEDDING directed by Academy Award® Winner Susanne Bier. Since then Mads Mikkelsen has appeared in several significant roles in international feature films such as Nicolas Winding Refn's VALHALLA RISING (2009), COCO CHANEL AND IGOR STRAVINSKY (2009), CLASH OF THE TITANS (2010) and THE THREE MUSKETEERS (2011). He is currently starring in HANNIBAL on NBC as the iconic character "Dr. Hannibal Lector." HANNIBAL also stars Hugh Dancy and Laurence Fishburne. - Zábava
Every time he ends a sentence with that adorable little grunted "right", somewhere in the world a baby smiles for the first time, a rainbow is formed, and a fairy comes back to life
Nickonar baby, rainbows? You’ve basically described Death Stranding. Are you from the feature?
Satana Mogila the dude just wants his bb back
He's magical you're right
I screenshot this
I love this guy. I love his face, I love his voice, I love his humor.
Great interview.
Mads and his passion for changing the script and calling directors in the middle of the night
His lisp thing which probably isn’t a lisp is so refined and makes his voice so distinctive!
Ugh. So in love with this man. So composed and well spoken.
i think he's the finest actor working today- the hunt, a royal affair, casino royale, the salvation, valhalla rising, arctic, riders of justice, hannibal, etc.etc. everything he does is impeccable...i also grew up on foreign films as my parents were fanatical about ingmar bergman, truffaut and fellini...americans are lazy about reading subtitles but not nearly as much as italians....
* Druk [Another Round] and Riders of Justice as well
Favourite line:
"We don't want it to be black, or white. Not fifty shades of grey - just at least one."
He dropped the 'f' bomb and just got even sexier.
When?

I agree with Mads with the movie discussion. I don't know how to properly put it, but he's right. There are some pretty great movies in other countries. The story, the concept and of course the characters. But as soon as Americans see it, they're like "oh its a lovely movie and all but what if we omit this and add this? Then it'll be better."
Why not let it be shown the way it is and let people judge and take a chance at the original work rather than a revamp American version. Its not fair to those who worked hard on the movie only for it to be re-made by another country and given no recognition for where it originally came from. We need to be more universal with our movie choices. I mean look at the movie Parasite/Parasyte (a korean movie), it won an award. An american award. If we open more doors of recognition like that, more and more people would start to appreciate and take notice of other countries and their movies.
It won several awards actually. Best film (first time ever for a foreign film to win that category) ,best foreign film, best director ,and best script I think. So yes ,you made a good point
maya summers I am American and the American film makers always think they can produce a better product or tweak it and make it better. It is part ego and part arrogance with a whole lot of stupidity thrown in.
And now they decided to make American version of his newest work with Leonardo Dicaprio… man They probably give all the award to Leonardo after movie came out
Thank you for a great interview. Mads Mikkelsen is such a quality actor and he's too humble and down-to-earth for his talent. That's just another reason to love him, I guess!
5:51 I love how melodic he sounds when he says "research" here :3
I haven't seen this movie in a few years, but just hearing the descriptions of it during this interview is reminding me how frustrating and infuriating and heartbreaking it was. I think I'll watch it again tonight.
I think Mads Mikkelsen is one of our few greats. No big ego. I do wonder why he doesn't talk about "After the Wedding"???
What an eloquent and well spoken man
29:21 - 29:42 I would have fainted if I was the girl asking the question. The way he's looking at her, damn!
What did she asked? I can't hear anything.
one of those actors that just shine through..call it charisma..it factor..gravitas..whatever..He has it...
