  • Here is a video on how I restore and repair a lawn tractor mower to re-sell.
This is one of my hobbies that keeps me busy around my property.
I bought this mower for $120 and sold it 5 days later for $600 with probably 5 total hours of work..
You may do it differently and thats ok. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments

I just got my late grandfather's old Cub Cadet SLT 1550 and am preparing to give it a good cleaning and a tune-up. This video was really helpful. I'm real nervous about spraying water around the engine and electrical connections though

Part of the trick to mower flipping as I have learned is being able to find those mowers in that condition and in that price range. In my NE TX area, most try to sell their $150 barely running mowers for $400-500. And the once in a great while “free mowers” need a minimum $500 in work just to sell for a $600 “fair” price. These are the mowers that always need a set of tires or tubes $30-125, new $60 battery, new $25 carb because original is always too trashed, a $100+ seat, $25 oil/filter change, $15 air filter, $15 starter solenoid or voltage regulator, and $10 fuel filter. And that’s for all the top end stuff, once you get to the deck, a whole new range of parts prices start adding up Lol. The barely running mowers generally have at least one bad spindle, idler pulleys, or deck belt which easily add another $150+ in parts to operate back to normal.

WD-40 on black plastic is new to me, thanks for that tip. How many cans did the tractor take, I don't remember you mentioning that? I've used ATF (tranny fluid) on plastics and even painted plastic, to ok results.

I'm in the wrong profession, that house and yard all for flipping mowers DAMN

I actually bought that exact model Mower and it cost me $600. You have inspired me to give it a real once over. Also you seem to have done well for yourself. You have a beautiful place and it is well maintained. Crazy nice. I am really handy as well and have a extra lot which is why I got the mower. I also feel a little inspired to make a go of doing a little repair business for extra money.

“Barn fresh condition” is a great descriptor.

You are correct to not work on dirty machines unless you absolutely must as it can damage some components when reassembling pieces. In addition, clean equipment will show you its imperfections, things needing repaired much more quickly. Appreciate you telling us your combination of cleaning fluids too - if you ever get the chance, can you tell us measurements? 🙂

We have idler pulley that may fit your lawn mower. We can provide for free. Do you need?

Hello. Great video. Thank you for the info. Wondering if you used the WD40 with the silicone or just the original WD40. 👍

  • @GY6SCOOTERCHAT

Way too cheap buddy. You can get 900-1000. Great video

500-600 dollars? I would sell it for a grand. Because it’s really nice, sticks out like a sore thumb.

I'm looking to follow your procedure to clean mine like you did and I'm not even looking to sell it. I do have a few questions; Do you wipe after the WD-40 coating then follow up with the high gloss spray and wipe down? Or do you apply high gloss spray on top of WD-40 then wipe down? Also, WD-40 has a very, very strong smell (truly dislike it's smell) does it go away after the high gloss? Thanks 👍
