  • The Korg M1 is famous for its classic piano, organ and pad presets. But there's way more to this synth than these sounds. In this video I'll give an overview of the synthesis possibilities and show of some brand new patches I created that are ready to be used in new productions.

Just a basic Sine and Saw wave, a little bit of TMF filter (no Resonance) and signal running in parallel through effects. Not complicated but works. 'Slow Motion'.

Last week I was presented with an M1 with a broken joystick at a very low price I could not resist.
Managed to fix the cracked joystick and started playing with it. I had no idea what I was in for. I cannot believe what a beautiful machine I now possess.
Loving it to death already. I appreciate these videos you have done on it. Very inspiring! Thank you!

I like the work you have done. The M1 has superb sounds. Looks amazing.
The machine has great build quality and key action.
No gimmicks here. All killer and no filler.
Under the hood is a world of power and creative sonic possibilities, or should I say "universe"?
I think the M1 is where complexity and simplicity meet at an almost perfect 50/50
balance. It is an instrument. It speaks to your imagination in a way
    that new machines cannot.
I don't know why Korg does not just reissue this original classic.

I got my M1 when it came out, 7th unit of the first batch of 8 to reach the Canary Islands where I live. I still use it. Once I got my first Internet connection years ago I found millions of patches on the web. The instrument is able to do FAR more than what you´d think by the "classic" preset sounds. My favourite track to date was made entirely with the M1, played by hand and overdubbed lots of times, using a Pentium 2 with a whopping 166 Mb of memory and a 4 gb hard disk. I´ve never been able to get back to that level of emotional intensity with my current laptop and VST plugins.

I like your personal style, like we are sitting in the same room and having a nice time with the synthesizers 😁 Now I must explore my M1. I bought it just because it is one of the big 80s synth so it sits below my DX7 on my Jaspers stand. Mine came with a lot of the Korgs original cards with extra waveforms. I hope you get a lot of subscribers 😎

As an M1 owner I'm inspired by your results that show sounds far beyond the factory presets.
I have the Waverex PCM card for my M1. This card contains modern flash memory that enables your own samples to be downloaded to it via USB from a PC or mac using their app. Then the card can be used standalone like a standard PCM card in the M1.
The app provides the multisound, DWGS or drumkit structuring and length for your own sounds to be understood as PCM data on the card by the M1.
There are also ready made sample sets such as 909 drum kit and synth sounds and also Korg T series samples for free download.
No affiliation, benefit or incentive to me. I already have the waverex card!

Hey glad you mentioned the WaveRex, I am looking to get one myself but have not heard back from the company yet and wondering if they still make it.
Question: when you bought it, what pcm files did they give with it besides the 909? I already have the T PCMs because I have the m1Ex upgrade installed but I was hoping that the company would have recreated all the original Korg library PCMs and included those. What other PCM files besides the 909 and T sounds did they give you with the interface card?
      thanks so much!

This is exactly what I needed to see RN! Finally got my long time dream M1 a little less than a month ago & it's time for me to start figuring the menu out as far as editing the patches & creating some of my own. Not much info out there, but thanks to you I now understand how to pull up an INIT saw, square etc. (Well sample of one anyway) I didn't realize they were buried in that dropdown of 100 variations.
I did however spend a little time earlier today changing parameters on the existing presets & was able to transform a couple into some wild stuff hahaha I've always adored alot of the factory & ROM card presets, but it's very reassuring to now see first hand that there's alot more fun to be had on this synth!

Once again, another great video witch highlights and highlights the almost endless possibilities of the M1.
This synthesizer will always shine over time and has nothing to envy with its recent successors from the Korg brand.
Personally, I much prefer the old Korg products which had a different phylosophy. It's my point of view which is only binding on me...

Well first of all there is the Korg M1 vsti off course. This is a good way to get familiar with the synth in a more visual way. You'd still have to recreate the patches on the hardware though.
There's also the M1 FlexEditor. This is a one man software project and its a work in progress: www.korgforums.com/forum/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=99291
