    There was one 4 day horse show that I competed with my young novice horse that I trained my self. All of us trainers were dressed (luckily) but our horses were not ready because we thought that we had another two hours before our class. All of a sudden they announced that the young novice horse class is up next. All of a sudden you see all of us trainers on the show grounds scramble to get up onto out horses, get one lap around the warmup arena and go into our class! It was hysterical 🤣! The class went fine though.

    You should see if you can have the girls do some braiding lessons with the professional braided once shows die down that way they can do the braids the way they need to and you won’t have to always pay someone to do them, plus then you guys could be paid to braid other horses manes. Some competitors at our Highland cow shows have professional fitters to get the cows clipped exactly how they want, we prefer to keep them as natural as possible instead of clipping the hair since their coat is a breed characteristic but I’d still love to learn since these fitters make some good money on it.

    • @MrXmauro
      @MrXmauro Před 3 lety

      I earned all of my show entry fees by braiding. It took about one full day of shadowing and one practice day of many types of manes and off I went! A good skill for a horse person to have.

    So for the schooling rings, Brandaan is right about it for champs, BUUT since everything is weird this year, there is.. I would say almost half the amount of people compared to usual champs turnout for a few reasons, 1 because of covid, the new silver series shows also took lots of riders out of trillium, annnd this "new" venue is soooo far away from a lot of the zones that have the largest numbers of riders, so a large amount did not come or did the silver series instead.
    Aswell this venue in not nearly as daunting as palgrave in my and and im sure many others peoples opinions so less probably felt the need to school early.
    just giving a piece of my knowledge

    • @sophieadah3939
      @sophieadah3939 Před 3 lety

      It was definitely smaller however the eastern zone where champs was held this year is actually just as big and competitive as some of the zones near caledon and angelstone!

    • @kiera7061
      @kiera7061 Před 3 lety +2

      Yea definitely! Eastern zone (this venue in particular) is my “home show” so it’s way less daunting! Palgrave seems terrifying

    Chino is totally in his element! I think I remember when they got Chino Laura had mentioned he was a fairly experienced show horse. He's the perfect pairing for Gabby for her first big show experiences. They make a great team. Gabby is becoming a very accomplished young rider combined with Chinos experience and his stellar personality, beauty, and talent makes for an awesome team.

    • @sidneytedford5574
      @sidneytedford5574 Před 3 lety +5

      Not being mean but how do you get this? Yes Laura said Chino showed at that gold level and is experienced. Put that with Gabby r years of riding it's hard to believe that out of 7 classes they did they didn't pin in one. I don't see that as a great pairing or Gabby being a stellar rider. In that equitation B flat Gabby and Chino should have pinned but didn't. Gabby was one of the oldest most experienced riders in the field. I was really shocked they didn't do better.

    • @alisamartin3874
      @alisamartin3874 Před 3 lety

      @@sidneytedford5574 I said Chino is stellar and experienced and combined with Gabby being inexperienced with this level of showing it makes a good pairing for her first time at this level. I also said that Gabby is becoming an accomplished young rider. She is just starting to really experience these levels of showing. A true horse person is always learning. I'm fifty and have been riding and involved with many aspects of the equine world from showing to starting young horses for over forty years and am still learning new things all the time. I respect your opinion. Maybe give them a chance to grow as a team. They're only bound to improve if the desire and hard work continues.

    • @zainemiller7597
      @zainemiller7597 Před 3 lety +1

      @@sidneytedford5574 Well we also have to keep in mind that they are probably showing against very nice warmbloods. This was also their first bigger show. I think they are an excellent pair and will be doing even better when gabby gets more show experience under her belt!

    • @sidneytedford5574
      @sidneytedford5574 Před 3 lety +9

      Alexa Martin I too have 20 + years of training, coaching and competing while I do not know it all I do know a few things. As a coach I believe in being completely honest with parents when their children start riding. If you have the experience you claim then you know that it doesn't take long to spot those with potential and those who will know how to ride and ride well. Gabby has over 10 years of riding with a lot more hours in the saddle than the average rider competing at her level and honestly she is just as an average rider. I have to ask you how long do you think it should take to get to the level of the riders at the show they were just at? Now Laura claims they are moving up to the top level next year and in my opinion, and it's just mine this is a big mistake. If you can't do well at a lower level and by this I do mean win or pin then why would you move up. EGO and only EGO is the reason.

    • @alisamartin3874
      @alisamartin3874 Před 3 lety

      @@sidneytedford5574 two different opinions that's all. There are many variables and none of us can predict how the future will look for them as a team. I think they are a good team for the time being considering her lack of experience and his calm been there attitude. It's up to her and how hard she works to improve her skills.some people deal with horses for many years and never get past a certain level of horsemanship. It takes hard work dedication and some great trainers helping along the way. Seems the main goal in their family is to have fun and experience new things as they move thru the process.

    Chino may be a horse that likes stalls and being inside more he may benifit from smaller turn out with him and Finn it could be that he enjoys that and for summer he needs more stall time and a smaller turn out to help him stay sound and then for winter let him be in a heard it could be the difference of a sound horse all summer

  • @SassySorrelFilly
    @SassySorrelFilly Před 3 lety

    Just watching now, at the part where Gabby is untacking from her schooling trek. Laura, I really like how you mentioned that Chino has a soft eye at the showgrounds. I feel like Chino has always had a gentle face, even if you can't really judge a horse's facial expression like you would a human or other non-human species. Chino just looks like he basically wants to be your giant lap dog or would be content to just stand there with you all day, neither he nor his person moving, just being together in the moment (as long as it lasts). I love Chino Bambino. He's a good horse.

    Her and chino looked so good!!! Go gabby!!
    But gabby just remember not to look at your diagonals. In my shows if they catch you looking they’ll take off points. It’s really hard to learn but that might be something you might want to start doing every now and then since you go to some bigs shows sometimes now😄

    Chino looks like he is in his element. He is very focused and is doing very well. Gabby looks great for it being the first sleep away show. Yesterday my family and I went to a fair. Their were tons of rides, livestock, dog shows, and horse shows!! It was amazing seeing all of the animals and people who care for them and all of the horses and their riders.

    • @caseyscattle
      @caseyscattle Před 3 lety

      Hope you enjoyed the fair! My summers are just a bunch of 4H events and even though it’s hard work it’s an amazing opportunity for any kids who can do it, they meet kids who do the same activities as them and they learn to be confident in different social environments! The fairs are especially amazing for people who may not get much experience with the animals who are shown since they get to see all of the hard work that goes into caring for these animals!
