This is going to be a PERFECT mario kart game! They fixed everything that was wrong with the original and then some! Battle mode, holding 2 items, plus the new characters, courses, and items. And I personally love the steering assist for when I'm playing with my 6 year old, this is gonna be GREAT!

some items were a one of, like blue shells in stars, but in mkwii you could hold green/red shells + banana. You could do this by holding down the L button as u raced, which would hold the shell behind you, giving you protection against other shells, and doing this freed the item box, so you could grab another item

Not necessarily, this game has Inklings as new playable characters and that does not mean Splatoon is dead.
Splatoon is still extremely popular to the point of us getting a sequel, there hasn't been a proper F-Zero game in years and at this point there probably won't be

The Wii U sold quite poorly, so there's a whole lot of potential customers that this could appeal to.
Also, for some people it'll be worth the money to play MK8 on the go. It's particularly easy to justify if you never bought any of the DLC.

Does anyone else wish that Nintendo added a double dash mode. Basically when your selecting the kind of race, you could pick double dash mode then it would let you pick the class and everything. Then you get to pick the two characters you want to race with, then you select a car from double dash or a new one if Nintendo decides to make more double dash cars. I hope Nintendo sees this and decides to do it.
Jordan Jones would be hard to make. A bunch of new cars to support 2 characters realistically? And the programming needed to have those two characters have special animations, victory and loss animations, as well as new items and course to suit this mode? That would take years...

Well they’re sending out software updates to a lot of the games that have already been released. Some games are getting new mode, an example being the balloon game in Mario Odyssey

While I'm not a big fan of ports, I gotta say, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe does so many things better than its predecessor.
-Actual battle mode maps. It's not really that cool to play battle mode on regular tracks. Plus, it even has other battle mode modes to rev things up.
-2 items at once. Do I have to say anything else?
-New characters and amiibo costumes. And, until the Booster Course Pass came out, the characters were all free, no DLC lock or anything. They added Gold Mario, they added the Inklings and BotW Link amongst other costumes. Speaking of no DLC lock.
-All DLC content from MK8 is free on MK8D. This is especially important due to the recent closure of the 3DS and Wii U eShop. So, if you passed the opportunity and you have a Switch, you can still experience every track previously only available through DLC on Wii U.
As much as I hate to admit it, but the fact that the Switch is a semi-literal porting machine is actually a good thing. Most people, who skipped out on the Wii U, get to experience some of the Wii U games for the first time on Switch. Of course, this doesn't mean that Pikmin 3, _which was literally built around the GamePad as the main controller and in-game tablet in mind,_ plays better on Switch. There are some core features that cannot be easily, if not at all, replicated on the Switch.
Yet, it's also good to make new games instead of focussing on ports only. This may be the result of Super Mario Odyssey being the newest mainline entry in the Mario series to date, and it released almost 6 years ago. Bowser's Fury and A Spark of Hope do not count.

if this game’s booster pass’s final update adds double dash mode, new OR returning items (pow block, fake item box, feathers in races, lightning cloud, and mega mush, and special items (for each character or anyone)), and made it more like mk wii, there would be no need for mario kart 9 sadly but honestly
