- Take a look at what the neighbourhoods around SRL East stations could look like in the future!
Draft Precinct Visions are out now - outlining new planning opportunities for the broader areas around the 6 new SRL stations at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill.
Share your feedback and help refine the vision for each of these neighbourhoods.

We need this and SRL north asap!! Will really help reduce the stress on the city centre and spread Melbournes grown to already existing areas, hopefully there will be even more SRL expansions in the future! A Frankston to Dandenong line, Melbourne Metro 2 from Mernda to electrified Geelong metro services runner along underground from Clifton hill to Newport via Collingwood, Fitzroy, Parkville, southern cross and fisherman’s bend would be needed just as much. Rail to airport also a given as well.
I do not agree. The most pressing transport needs that should be addressed are re-configuring our bus network, which for the overwhelming majority is an circuitous, infrequent, uncoordinated mess. There are far too many companies operating our bus network.
Also Melton, Wyndhamvale and Tarneit Stations need to be brought into Metro Network. The Regional Rail Network simply cannot cope with infrequent vline services. I rode on it yesterday and the trains were at standing room only when it arrived at Wyndhamvale. That was for a 6 car train.
Far too many of our suburbs do not have a decent bus service and yet the Government is willing to sink billions into the SRL?
Apartment living is hot Asia
We don’t want to live in a box
Looks like Comeng are running in 2050, connex will return and HCMT on the Glen Waverley line 😂
Also a 4 carriage d class tram at burwood 1:57
They need more stations
Do the airport connection first! I assure you, that is more important right now.
They're trying. But arguing about the station location. No reason why both can't happen concurrently though, otherwise all construction will be stopped for 30 years.
Hell yea, I like these
Getting over zoning laws and building density fast enough plus finding funding gonna be hard tho
Sneaky little part of it is that SRL authority gets to make planning decisions for like 1k around the stations or something?? Not sure how accurate that is but basically ensuring high density development gets done
Please connect the linear park in box hill to the already existing trails in surrounding suburbs by bike/walking track: Blackburn, Box Hill South, Mont Albert, Surrey Hills…
0:49 whats with the connex comeng
Lol
While I support investments in public transport, Melbourne really needs to improve its bus services. There are dozens if not hundreds of bus routes around Melbourne that need to be straightened, given priority at intersections and improve frequency and operating hours. Many areas have no bus service at all on weekends, or if there is, it comes once an hour if you're lucky. Buses aren't as exciting as new rail lines, but they serve a valuable role in helping people move around and reducing congestion caused by excess numbers of private vehicles on our streets.
I agree. The Government though seems only to be interested in massive infrastructure projects.
The Suburban Rail Loop is just a replacement for the old Outer Circle Line.
Looks ideal to me.
1:07 Love the segway. What a shame they're illegal though.
much needed rail loop for Melbourne, where all rails only go to the city which is not efficient at all. BUT They need to DELIVER! keep drawing on paper and hesitating doesn't resolve anything.
Is this a go? What changed since the last airplane rail construction pause?
Why not use trains that can be used across the network
Can I buy and run the SRL as a private company.

I love the vision but I fear push Bach from the public and federal government like we have seen for other projects like Geelong fast rail over cost blowouts
Good. Geelong Fast Rail has been canned. The Government had no idea and good luck trying to push additional express services through the Footscray - Newport corridor.
You say it will connect with the buses… those buses come every 40 mins during peak for my line… not acceptable in this age and leaves no option but to drive or wait 40 mins by the side of the road while everyone whizzes past.
In their own planning papers, they want to make the buses have turn up and go type services. So there's a chance (we'll have to see) that bus reform around the stations is on the way.
Waste of money. They never mention that it will be 3 or 4 different rips to make a full circuit of the loop ie: you have to change at box hill to get on to the next bit etc. hopefully this is axed before it is too late and all that money gets flushed away
Where did you hear about that?
@@mangobaby_videos from the SRL website, if you read the brief it is spelled out very clearly, the tracks don't connect
@@mangobaby_videos it's on the SRL website, no one ever mentions it because it is inconvenient. the whole project is a scam. hopefully it never goes ahead.
Why wouldn't you start in the west considering there is only a 3rd world train system there now with the biggest population growth.
And there's already an orbital rail corridor...
This should be put on Hold & do the Airport rail link as promised first as we are the only place in Australia that does not have a railway to Melbourne airport, & this would have benefit for everyone that will use this to go on flights booked, working at the airport & shopping also at Melbourne airport & will save time rather than taking your car there to park & parking fees also.
Then after this is done maybe continue SRL if we still need it as they are destroying people new units, houses purchased, shops even an Rsl club etc will go where they have plan for this SRL.
Why is the Airport Rail priority? If the Government is hell bent on spending $13 Billion for a branch line I would rather they can it and provide decent services to Melton, Wyndhamvale and Tarneit together with a frequent and functioning bus network.
It will come first...
Skybus does the job just fine
up next. visions of our state debt
We don’t want appartment living
Only $200 BILLION
Aye, aye. Where did you get that figure?
the stated amount $125bn. there is a recent history of under budgeting 40% (see north east link and commonwealth games both under budgeted by 40%). takes us up to $187bn. you might say im off $13bn. but interest repayments to finance SRL at 5% per year over 30 years is another $280bn just interest. @@mjcats2011 i think the $200bn is conservative to be honest
200 billion to construct and operate the 90km line until 2085 including complete replacement of all rolling stock. This bit will cost about 37 billion to build
We need a elevated orbital light metro with high frequency, like the REM, not an expensive tunnel with stations four kilometres apart.
elevated? so you want to increase the cost of the project by requiring land acquisition and the demolishing of houses and other buildings?
@@TheLostProbe Nope, I want to take the medians of the SE boulevards near Clayton, Monash, Cheltenham and Glen Waverley and build a semi elevated third rail powered, standard gauge, digitally signalled railway line to decrease costs and free up room for more stations at the Monash Bus loop, Moorabbin DFO, Blackburn road and Burwood East. Of course, some sections of the line would be tunneled near existing stations and dense areas, but most would be at grade or elevated and separated from the road and surrounding houses with rows of sound proofing and trees.
@@CPTE5069 that would mean much longer travel time because it has to follow the path of those roads
@@TheLostProbe A slight increase for sure, but only a 3 Kilometer one according to Google Earth. it's a trade worth making to deliver new connections to Moorabbin DFO, Blackburn Rd Industrial precinct and the rapidly growing residential and commerce precinct at East Burwood.
@@TheLostProbe The increase in distance would be a relatively mild 3 km, while addding stations at major development and commercial precincts in the SE.
As if the government is still focussing on this dogbox/expensive project over an airport rail link wtfffffffff
Waste of money. It doesn't even go into the city, which is where everyone actually works and want to go. Considering its route confined to the suburbs, the best use it will probably ever get will be a couple dozen school kids and some junkie here and there. Other than that, no one will use it. Big waste of money.
bringing everyone into the city is inefficient. SRL aims to help Melbourne become a decentralized city, taking people between mini-CBDs within the middle suburbs. if you want to go into the city, take a normal train
@@TheLostProbe Help Melbourne become a decentralised city. You hope? Sorry, SRL in its current form is a luxury Melbourne cannot afford.
@@mjcats2011 too bad, it's already broken ground and the government doesn't seem interested in stopping it
@@TheLostProbe Too bad. It will be too bad for all of us.
Lol, every single other train line goes into the CBD. Literally take any other train line. This one goes to the airport.. name another line that does that?? I'll wait ..... Hahhahah
