Still coming back to this moment of utter genius from Geoff. I tapped 3 beats to the bar for the entirety of it and can’t work out how you managed to keep it in 3/4. Much admiration.

I truly loved this piece from beginning to end. Every now and then you'll hear a piece of music that makes you reflect on a part of your life that may be long past. That what this did for me, anyway.

So much to love about Geoffrey Keezer's unique take on this standard (usually done as a ballad). The 3/4 nearly Latin/Funk groove, the way he fills out the keys (especially with his amazing LH), using the piano as an orchestral instrument, plus the delicious chord changes he adds to reharmonize "The Nearness of You" in such a refreshing way!

I would not be too surprised that he could probably sightread that cold as well. Geoff is a freak. You can always count on him to come up with intriguing transitions. Right off the top of his head too. Absolutely lovely. And the tone! The only problem I have with it is that it ended.

Another fabulous player, David Hazeltine, would likely play this in the same way, based on the way he radically can change the rhythm or tempo songs that more often than not are played as slow ballads, along with the use of cluster chords, constant structure to certain chords, etc.

I've liked Keezer since he had the Messengers gig, and then he reminded me of Oscar when playing in the Ray Brown Trio. I'm glad he's playing an acoustic grand. Pianos, piano sales, piano tuners are all becoming rare in a field that keeps getting more and more crowded with guitars and adolescent voices. Moreover, someone with real chops is throwing them away by playing only electric keyboards, which tend to homogenize players' touches/voices. Both Bill Evans and Keith came to the same conclusion. Having said that, this is not the most satisfying version of Hoagy Carmichael's standard. I have the impression it was chosen because the melody's whole and half notes allow the left hand to keep going with that ambitious riff in the bass. Would it work with "My One and Only Love"?

Question: How is it your transcribe cursor, is actually where you're playing? There are a lot of folks posting stuff and for me, because I have a musical background and trying at 60 plus to brush up on my sight reading, it's very frustrating. What software do you use or what's your setup? Asking for myself. BTW I'm a bass player. Thanks in advance.
