    Now this is the way we use to jam in the nightclubs back in the day. The music now is trash. Where can you go these days to hear and see black musicians getting down like this? Those who control the industry do not want this.

      Benson opened the jazz door to people that didn't understand the classic jazz with his smooth style. 🎸

    From Grammy award winning Breezing. Affirmation was the very first time I heard the great GB way back as a 14 year old - and am hooked til today. Besides thanking our lucky stars all fansbof jazz guitar should be extremely grateful we have a guitarist of his ilk and virtuosity still around with us. Many of us have only seen tapes or heard former late greats like Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Barney Kessel on LPs. Here we still have this humble virtuoso with us. Salute. Forever grateful to my guitar hero I never tire listening to. Those octaves man on this is love - so special.

    The greatest era of music just 12 years old when this was released in 1976. I used to steal my sister George Benson breezin 8 track all the time to listen to this masterpiece, in 1978 I saw him in concert at the pine knob music theater in Clarkson, Mi, this has to be the best live version of so this is love, I’ve ever heard.

    So fantastic giving Phil Upchurch some space. That was great of Master Benson sharing some guitar spotlight. What a great piece of music. GB didn't compose, or at least record his own compositions that often, but he did write some great pieces. This was just superb and from the time I was really starting to discover this great artist and this type of fusion. George is a gift as well as the musicians on stage with him. Just a great memory.

      @PolaOpposite Před 2 lety

      Too bad he doesn't give Michael O'Neill that chance on stage... not that Mike doesn't deserve it, or that George doesn't want to let him solo, but I think audiences aren't as open as they use to be.

      Totalmente de acuerdo. Es el mejor tema del "Breezin". Su exigencia técnica como su estructura armónica da oportunidad a improvisar y crear muchas figuras como se da en este concierto. En el disco original, el sintetizador de Ronnie Foster y la guitarra de Phil Upchurch de manera sutil dibujan adornos q realzan el tema. Coincidimos en q es el mejor tema. 🎸👍

    Jorge Dalto encajó 100% con lo que necesitaba Benson en ese momento pasado ya... Fue director y arreglista y estupendo para el Soul Funk en formas de Smooth Jazz, bastante pionero el estilo que fue masivamente popular desde ese encuentro a mediados de los 70'... pero Dalto resultó ser todavía más apegado al jazz latino, y estuvo con Tito Puente, algo grabó y arregló para Willie Colón. El tiempo no le alcanzó para más, pero quedó Jorge Dalto como líder en dos universos. Eso es cosa para pocos # George Benson no compone mucho pero pega centro cuando lo hace... esta es de su inspiración y visión

    3:33 Don't let those pentatonic blues licks fool you. Phil Upchurch plays totally jazz orientated stuff in his solo albums. The same with Michael O'Neal.

    Evergreen Stanley Banks on Bass. Some longevity there because he still travels with GB today. The other is Michael O'Neill. I recall Ronnie Foster and Jorge Dalto on Fender Rhodes in the good ole days! What joy GB and his band has brought to our lives and upbringing. I remember this music in the background at every party back in the day!😍

      Not everyone has the same musical palate or ear. Remember: Different strokes for different folks. Me? I like this song. It puts me in a good head-space. GB is an extremely gifted guitarist, but I'm an old soul when it comes to jazz guitar and jazz. My absolute favorite guitarist is the late great Wes Montgomery, followed by the late Grant Green.
      My favorite contemporary jazz guitarists: Pat Metheny, and Eric Essix.

    • @Virtues4U
      @Virtues4U Před 2 lety +1

      Look it seems people forget why GB is such a great guitar player. His roots are in straight ahead jazz. Do the thumbs-down peeps know he toured many years with Jack Macduff - and learned the ropes from guys like Kessel, Wes etc? Sure they do. He played the jazz clubs until he was 32 or thereabouts. Tired and burnt out from playing clubs since age 8 - without much commercial success - he nearly packed it in - for good. Thank God Almighty he did not. Are the thumbdowners not acutely aware of recordings such as Benson Burner, Good King Bad, White Rabbit etc? Even though Benson took the contemporary root with Grammy award-winning Breezing (and found new success to the chagrin of the jazz purists) there's absolutely no way, if you have an ear for jazz, that you cannot recognise his jazz roots, his virtuosity, sublime talents and appreciate his transition to the birth of a new trajectory with the self-same Breezing in 1976. Some of the old die-hards still don't forgive him to this day for having "turned his back on pure jazz". But to me that is just ridiculous and speaks of deep naievety. Who can't admire his dexterity, suaveness, skills, talent etc. on This is Love or Valdez in the Country, etc. etc. Many younger generations who followed the great GB have a lot to thank the maestro for. Many though try to emulate the great George Benson, but truth be told there is ONLY ONE GB. We will only truly know the height and depth of his influence when he departs the stage. So please celebrate the MASTER while he is still around. George Benson. The Best. Another Level. Still today's god of jazz guitar. Indisputably so.

      Or no soul one of the two lol! George will always have a special place in my heart as his sound is so unique and conjours up a time when life was simpler and we were left in peace to live our lives. This live version is just the bees and I am SO glad to have been young and able to enjoy discovering this type of music as I have wonderful memories and no one can take those away from me!
