- As Keir Starmer says he wants to spend time with his family after 6pm on Fridays, Nick Ferrari speaks to callers to get their take on the Labour leader's remarks.
Starmer has stated that he wants to protect some time that he can then spend with his family, who observe Jewish Shabbat dinner on Fridays.
But a number of Tories have criticised these comments, arguing that it would make Starmer a “part-time prime minister” if he wins the election on Thursday.
Rishi Sunak even told reporters: “I haven’t finished at six ever."
This comes with just two days to go until General Election polling day.
01:06 Nick Ferrari: 'How realistic is this ambition?'
02:23 Caller Tanya defends Keir Starmer's style of working to Nick, saying she 'respects him for it.'
03:13 Caller Matthew: 'I think this was not a well-advised statement but one that was an effort to try and make himself more relatable.'
05:18 'It reeks of entitlement, and that's what we've had with the Tories', says caller Clare.
06:57 Caller Glen tells Nick he feels that Starmer's work ethic has been 'wrongly portrayed'.

Those of us who’ve been on earth many decades have seen it all before and Labour governments are always a disaster for the country. We’re still living with destructive Bliar policies which the current Tory government should have scrapped long ago, but they are always obstructed by the Bliar created Westminster functionaries. Done to enable Labour to stay in No.10 forever. Thankfully it didn’t work but his systems still there.
Where was this outrage when Boris was taking a holiday every two weeks as PM. Going on holiday at the start of COVID.
Exactly, or locking himself away to finish writing his book instead of doing the job that he received taxpayers money for

First caller spoke a lot of sense.
How many times was Boris on holiday while things were erupting back at home?
What utter garbage, of course everyone needs time with family and that should be scheduled in otherwise they would be stressed out. Are you suggesting a PM should not sleep. 4 hours out of a week for himself and his family is more than justified.
Yeah you don't want him to end up like Thatcher!!!
Ferrari is just a gob on a stick doing a desk job.
@simonbamford8441 And starmer is a tool the spanner in the works🔧
This is honestly so disingenuous- What Keir Starmer said was he keeps his Friday evenings free to spend time with his family (partly down to raising his kids within the Jewish faith). He however also said that he was only going to do it when possible. Also, other politicians have done similar- David Cameron and Nick Clegg while PM and Deputy PM kept time free to spend with their family
and his mate boris likely only worked 2 hours a day
If he prioritised Friday evening for a mistress, rather than his family, would that be ok?
That would be the Tory way😅😅😅
stormy ?
Barak Obama used to make sure he had dinner with his family at 6pm every night. I'm not sure anyone would challenge his work ethic, compared for example with Donald trump who spent so much more time on the golf course. That Starmer prioritises making time for his family in my mind is a positive thing that will hopefully benefit the relevance of his decision making

Alright man, he has so many bad takes and *plenty* of substance to attack him on.. there’s absolutely no need to resort to that.
Better to be fat and healthy than skin and bone. You are missing the point, people are not angry that he spends time with his family, it's the fact he gives a specific time. A lot of people can't do that, it's almost like he wants people to envy him because nobody can relate to him. I get the impression he would abuse his position. He already likes to throw words around in the hopes they stick.

I come from a family where every last one of us put on weight easily. When younger, we were all very active, played sport, swam and so on. When I got older and that was no longer possible, I simply controlled my food intake whilst upping my walking. Now I am near 70 most of my wight control is food intake, whilst making sure I get the nutrients I need.
It takes effort and willpower both things Mr Ferrari has none of.
I cannot take advice or listen to the opinion of what is basically an unfit lazy man with little or no interest in other people.
My partner is 65 she put on some weight not much but it annoyed her so guess what, she bought herself a Peloton and uses it every day. She, like me, despises laziness and rightly so.
Mr Ferrari is not going to last much longer unless he realises fat and lazy equals short and dead.
Oh and I only do it because I dont want to look like a blob, aka Nick Ferrari.

Work life balance is important mate, I shouldn't expect a Tory to understand that.
How many MPs clock off a lot more but do not talk about it, but you were always going to jump on this Nick.

This guy’s tears are gonna be so delicious come Friday morning 😭 👍😂 Goodbye Tories!
Because,as we all know,Boris Johnson worked 24 hours a day,didnt he?😂
Since we've all agreed here that quite he would obviously drop everything for a genuine emergency, this is merely a debate about the optics of such a statement. I'd say it's hypocritical for people who identify as being conservative to criticise anyone for devoting time to their family, which even as a self-confessed liberal I would argue is a very positive core conservative value.
Ferrari - lazy journalist. Sir Kier Starmer - PM.
Desperate.
Pathetic. Imagine saying he shouldn’t spend time with his family because that’s what he’s trying to imply.
Family keeps you grounded.
Gutter journalism.
We need way more emphasis on people's home and social lives and less on working outside of your working hours. Starmer is right, but he would clearly attend meetings that were urgent, like say a COBRA meeting, unlike say Boris Johnson.
Is Nick forgetting how he simped for Boris trus and sunak.
Boris decided that the best thing for him to do in the first spring of the pandemic was to go on holiday.
Sadly Nick is trying use the standard Tory wheeze comparing running the country to a household.
Having worked for many small businesses the boss was generally the first to leave at 3 on a Friday because they’re going to a business meeting
yep, a business meeting on the golf course as I remember it!
How can we possibly contemplate voting for a man who respects and loves his family!
Well this is clearly a reason to vote for another 14 years of conservative government.
Nice try Nick. 🙄
Everybody needs a work life balance and the PM is there to make strategic long term decisions and not snap calls at 10pm on a friday night.
Doctors, nurses etc have shifts and most know when and where they will be working. It is not comparable to other all other jobs and if he runs the country well and finishes early on a friday then so be it.
entitlement? wanting to be a proper dad? grow up.
"..otherwise we didn't eat" Really? If he'd only been on call 22 hours a day his family would've starved?
Normalising work/life balance isn't a bad thing.

How does James O'Brien put up with fellow commentators like this?
What's he going to say about Sue Gray's proposal to ban alcohol at Westminster or when Westminster is run more as a 9-5 instead of starting at lunchtime and finishing in the middle of the night?
How is he going to complain when Kier recalls parliament early to get to work on the peoples priorities
further proof that lbc is hard carried by o'brien and goodall while most other presenters are just filler
"White male entitlement"? Utter nonsense, he just wants to spend some time with his family
If he wants to spend time with his family then he has to ringfence some time so that his family can also arrange to be there. The alternative is that his family simply sit around doing nothing all week just waiting for some time to be available in his schedule.
A truly pathetic news story.
Starmer is choosing to spend Friday with his family practising their faith. Wonder if Nick would feel the same if it was a Tory suggesting this... nah, he'd be praising it as honourable.
Ferrari is just hand over fist trying to milk anything he can contrive out of how Starmer phrased something.
Is this really all he's got to fill a show?
Starmer's wife is Jewish and friday is the Sabeth for her so he's trying to appease her faith, obviously if anything important cropped up the weekly jewish dinner gathering wouldnt happen , but of course the Tories decided to jump on any as they see it anything which they and other ignorant muppets see as a failing, effin' tories will say anything
That ‘clinical psychologist’ should have a word with herself. Wow!

Let’s hope. Imagine going to her for work life balance advice!!!
Are people really so desperate that they are looking for any minor point to pick at? (And if he turns up to PMQs he'll be doing better than Sunak).
