    How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a CZcams channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
    How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

    Great video Ryan. As a side note, Our Wyoming Life has their own squeeze shoot with load cells. This allows them to get another data point which is used to (a) define steer supplemental feed rate and (b) when the steers go to freezer camp. As OWL says, you can never have too much data.

    Keep up the good work Ryan no shame in trying to get organized better I seen comments from another person that acts like they know it all (not saying they do or don't) but however a small time operation has to start somewhere no one is perfect in a day it's the baby steps leading up to it. Your not managing a high end huge cattle lot maybe one day if that's what you are going for but I grew up on a small farm and it takes patients and time to grow its the record-keeping that helps build the future you don't know where to grow or how your profit is with poor records so good job recognizing that and trying to change it here in iowa there are not much family farms left in my area as they have sold out and moved to a Corp. Farm keep the family farms alive.

    Hi from oz Ryan. Out here we’ve had mandatory rfid tagging from property of birth till slaughter for about 20 years now. Look up the Australian national livestock identification scheme on google to find info on it. RFID can be used for a huge number of management records. Our family farm had permanent yards with round force to race. Dedicated weigh box with permanent scales under it then a crush. Tag reader attached to weigh box grad tag as animal entered and weighed straight to computer. We could put through over 100 steers per hour just weighing and drafting for sale. Yards could hold over 300 steers plus 2 holding yards for hundreds more. We ran over 500 cows and traded another 4 to 5 hundred steers per year. We were a lot harder on our cows than you. Heifers got 7 weeks joining and cows had to be dedectable by 7 months from birth or else gone even if the bull was the problem. Better of selling them and buying new ones tested in calf.

    • @701x
      @701x Před rokem

      Hi Charles. We have tested our tags through some of the harshest conditions. They are extremely durable. However, like many other tags, they are not completely "cow-proof." Oftentimes before our GPS tag, xTpro were to break it falls from the cattle's ear. This triggers alerts in our system to send straight to the rancher to go collect the tag. The xTpro tag is reusable and can be used again!

    Ever since the usa had that mad cow out brake. By law every calf right at birth must have a round yellow RFID tag put in it ear. An regestered on line. If a tag it lost you must login to your account an do a transaction of lost tag. Entering the lost tag number an reference the new Rfid tag number. Any time a cow steer bull calf is loaded in a truck an moved. You must login to your account an do a transaction of move out or move in. And list the drivers name an trailer plate number an print 2 copies of the paper work. One for the driver an one for were it going. In the case it go to be butcher the plant must login an do a move in. On kill day the login an do an end of life. It ilegel to cut a tag off it ilegel to cut a tag off an put a new tag on. It ilegel to transport with out each one having an RFID TAG an driver not having the paper work that out lines were each one was picked up from an were it going. Same with pigs sheep goats. Binion but pigs are done on a diferent website. No 3rd party software can be used for this . First you get a farm Premise id then you sign up for an online account an once it approved you order from them the RFID EAR TAGS . ONCES all your livestock are on your Promise you can down load an excel spread sheet of all Animals on farm. Or you can upload an excel file as a whole batch being moved out if one dies on farm you login an enter death an related how ext. In my case it from wolves an cyotes

      This is not true that every calf born has to be RFID tagged at birth by law. Recognized identification (defined by the state) varies from state to state in regards to crossing state lines into their states. And that’s only bovines that are intact
