    In this step by step tutorial, learn how to create custom Canva frames out of any shape you create in Affinity Designer.
    The tutorial is taught in V2 of the desktop app, however the process is the same for either version of both the desktop and iPad app. You can also follow this same process in Affinity Photo and Publisher.

    LOVE this thank you! I've seen tutorials on how to do it in word and I was like 'no thank you' so when I saw you had one using designer I watched it immediately. Clear and concise. I think I might play around with some of the shapes I created for my branding and see what they'll look like as frames :)

    Thanks Tracey for a super tutorial, it is really helpful. If I wanted to make gift tag frames can I place them on one sheet of 8.5 x 11 and export the link for that one sheet of frames?

      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Před 18 hodinami

      Hi there! Thank you so much; I'm glad you found it helpful! Yes, you can. Create as many gift tags as you want on your canvas, export as a PDF from Designer and when you open them in Canva, they'll be on one sheet and treated as separate frames. From there, you can create a template link for them as one sheet with multiple frames. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any additional questions. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for sharing! Do you prefer Affinity Designer over Adobe Photoshop? I’m learning Adobe Photoshop but would like an alternative (a bit more straightforward) that isn’t as technical lol

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Thank you for watching @btikatikaasmr! I definitely use Designer more than any other app. Designer would be more like Illustrator, in that it's a vector app though. Affinity Photo would be the alternative to Photoshop, and I do use that more than I use Photoshop. I wouldn't necessarily say it's more straightforward though. There is definitely a learning curve for it but, once you have the layout down, it's very easy to use! For many, Affinity Photo is an alternative because there is no subscription to use it. :) I hope this helps!

    Hi, glad to see this tutorial using Affinity Designer instead of a free online app or PowerPoint! I tried this using both a jpg and png file that I started with (black silhouette with transparent background) and when I got to the step to change the format of the slice to PDF high quality, the preset did not have PDF as an option so I selected PDF from the File Format dropdown. I brought this to Canva, but it looks at it as a flat file, meaning, I cannot remove the graphic placeholder. I reviewed the steps several times, but I don't see what I am doing that is different up until that point. Any thoughts on where I went wrong? Thanks!

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi Kathy! Designer is my favorite app so I always lean that direction :) Glad you found it helpful! With this process, you want to start with a vector, not a jpeg or png. You'll clip a raster (png or jpeg) image inside of that, make sure the background is transparent, and then save it as a PDF ( make sure it says "Nothing" under Rasterize in the export screen) That should work for you when you pull it in to Canva. Please let me know if you're still running in to an issue! Thank you for watching, and commenting!

      @@Tracey-CreatorCollage How can I convert a PNG or JPG to a vector image in Affinity Designer? I know how to do it in Inkscape but I am trying to create a process within one software to save time. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!

      You're very welcome! Unfortunately, short of tracing your image with the Pen tool, you can't convert it as there is currently no image trace function in Designer. Hopefully there will be down the road but, for now, you would need to use another app to convert it. Sorry!

    How can you add a layer in front of the frame? I've seen people sell mockups but it clearly has some shading done. I tried to replicate it in Canva, but it won't allow me to place an image in the frame because it's "covered" by the other layer, whether it's locked or not.

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi there! Anything that sits over the entirety of the frame layer would temporarily need to be moved out of the way in order for the frame to work correctly.
      In other words, if it's a layer that covers every part of the frame so that you can't click anywhere on the frame without clicking the layer above it, it won't work. If you have a layer sitting above where enough of the frame layer isn't covered so you can drop and drag over that section, then you don't have to move the other layer out of the way. I haven't seen mockups where there is a top layer covering every part of the frame that actually works without moving something first.

    Hi there. Excellent video. I got to the part where you export the slice in Export Persona and the only option is to save to a folder not "export" or share. When I imported to Canva it had saved it as an HDML file. I converted it to a pdf digital high quality in Affinity. I am able to continue and follow all of the steps in Canva. Why would is save as an HDML file?

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi there! Thank you for watching, and for the compliment, I appreciate it! I'll be honest, I'm not sure why it would save as an HDML file if you changed it to a PDF in the Export Options, before trying to export. Have you tried it a second time just to see if it was a fluke or hiccup? As far as the option to saving to a folder, assuming you're on the desktop, not iPad, do you mean it pulled up your files and asked you to choose a folder? If so, that's just asking where you want to export it to, so it's doing what it's supposed to. You should see "Export Slices" and when you click on that it will ask you to select a file to export to. I'm sorry if I'm not understanding something above. Please let me know if you have additional questions. Thank you again!

      Hi. I did try again and it still saved as an HDML. Weird.
      I’ve worked on these programs so I know my way around but I’ve never tried to export a slice. The slice tab in the layers panel has a save icon not export. Export icon isn’t there. I thought I missed a step.
      The end result is I am able to use the slice…vector/raster image and continue to Canva or Affinity Photo and create my frames or templates.
      Thanks again for such a great video. I’ll be checking out more. 😊

      As long as you're able to use the slice! I'm sorry I'm not able to provide a better answer. Without seeing what you're looking at, I'm making assumptions but if the end result works, that's what matters! Thank you for watching!

      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Thank you for watching, and taking the time to comment! It does need to be a vector behind the frame. You can save raster FX attached to it but the bottom layer does need to be a vector shape and then the whole thing saved as a layered PDF.

      Right now, Kittl doesn't have a way to create custom masks but I read a comment from them on another video that it's a feature they plan to have in the future. The process as outlined in my video wouldn't work because there is no way, currently, to upload a PDF to Kittl. Hopefully they will add custom masks soon!

    What is the process for using warp with AD2 I got stuck, thanks if you could help me.

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Před rokem +1

      Hi Patricia!
      Thanks for watching!
      You would select the layer you want to warp and find the Warp Group icon. (it's at the bottom of the layer panel on the desktop version, and the top on the iPad version) You will be given a number of choices, starting with a basic mesh. They all have their own look so I recommend playing with them. Once you pick one, you will see a contextual menu where you can adjust the percentage of warp (at the top on the desktop version) and the side on the iPad version. Just adjust the sliders until your warp looks the way you want.
      Once you're done, it will put it in a group. If you don't need the group, simply right click and ungroup on the desktop. On the iPad there are a number of ways to ungroup, including back in the Warp Group menu.
      If you're still getting stuck, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm happy to help!

    Also, when you link someone the file, when they're done making their edit, does it not save to the original so if say, 10 people are using the frame file, no one's going to see anyone elses stuff? I'm new to Canva.

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi there! I'll answer the easier question first :) When someone clicks the link to use one of your templates, Canva makes a copy of that template, specific to them, that's only in their Canva account. It's not the original that they're saving to. So they can make whatever changes they want, and no one else will see it.

    Is there a way to create a frame that has a design included in it, for example a frame border you created with the centre square used for the drag and drop

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi there! Yes, you could. You would need to create and export each layer individually and build it in Canva. So the frame border would be the top layer and exported on it's own, either as a vector or raster. The Canva frame would be exported, as a PDF, on it's own. Import the PDF then Upload the frame border and bring it in to the design and layer it on top in Canva.
      Canva doesn't seem to like grouped items. That's why the need for exporting and importing separately. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching!

      @@Tracey-CreatorCollage sorry one more question if you don't mind .. how would you keep certain parts of the outter image from disappearing once the image to be used as the frame has been deleted. For example I've designed a doodle letter that has multiple layers of texts and squiggle lines that go into the frame area, but when I delete the main base letter then it deletes any lines that cross over into it

    • @Tracey-CreatorCollage
      @Tracey-CreatorCollage  Před 10 měsíci

      Don't mind at all @jewelofthenile1271! I'm assuming you mean once it's in Canva? Honestly, it's touchy, in my opinion. I have found that, if I have everything grouped, and try to delete the base, it deletes everything. If I ungroup that doesn't happen as often. If it is happening anyway, you can also go to Position and then Layers and select and delete just that layer. If I'm not understanding the questions, please let me know!
