Thanks Tracey for a super tutorial, it is really helpful. If I wanted to make gift tag frames can I place them on one sheet of 8.5 x 11 and export the link for that one sheet of frames?
Hi there! Thank you so much; I'm glad you found it helpful! Yes, you can. Create as many gift tags as you want on your canvas, export as a PDF from Designer and when you open them in Canva, they'll be on one sheet and treated as separate frames. From there, you can create a template link for them as one sheet with multiple frames. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any additional questions. Thanks for watching!
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage Thankyou so much for the reply. I will be watching more of your videos!
Wonderful! Thank you, in advance, for watching!
Awesome tut Tracey, the blend options can change the look of textures in interesting ways, thanks for the reminder!
Yes, they definitely can! Blend Options are my go to for sure :) Thank you for checking it out Sherri! I appreciate it, and thank you for taking the time to comment!

Another wonderful tutorial, thank you so much!
Glad you liked it, Gill! Thank you for watching, and taking the time to comment!
It took me a few hours, but now I've got a nice vector bulb, thank you :) I've got one question: what is the difference between 'Convert to curves' option and 'Bake appearance'? (apart from being not evident for non native speakers ;) ) The result is not the same?
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I'm so happy to hear you ended up with an illustration you like! :) I'm sorry, I should have mentioned there is no difference between the two, in that they both do the same thing. The reason they call it "Bake Appearance," when it comes to the Corner Tool (as well as the Contour tool) is because you're creating the curve and then just "baking in" the shape you created to set it. "Convert to Curves," doesn't necessarily have to come after you have made a change to the shape, but, ultimately, both create nodes :) Thank you again for watching!
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage Thanks for explanation! It's a pleasure not only to watch your tutorials but also to make your designs - the best way of learning new features by inspiring practice!

Tracey, I've viewed a lot of videos on blend ranges (from the Af Photo side) - like them, use them, but there's that little nagging feeling that I'm not quite getting it. Your video on blend ranges is a stroke of genius. This is the best blend ranges video I"ve seen. And it's easy to set up in Photo or Designer to follow along with you and experiment. GREAT JOB!
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this! It made my morning :) I am so happy that you enjoyed the tutorial, and found it so helpful. I appreciate the very kind words you had to say about it! Thank again for taking the time to write, and for watching!
ok but using the quick menu makes this so confusing as to where to find the "duplicate" and also saying "power duplicate" means I was looking for "power duplicate" instead of "duplicate:.
Hi there! Power Duplicating is the function, that is created by Duplicating. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear from the video. As far as the quick menu goes, Duplicate is one of the set functions that is always at the top of the Quick Menu. It isn't an optional button so it will always be at the top left when you engage the Quick Menu. It can also be found by going to the Edit menu.
Awesome. Thank you!
You’re welcome Tammy! Thank you for watching!
Love it. Thank you ❤
Thank you! So happy you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching, and commenting! 💛
Thank you for this great tutorial! I'm kind of new to all this... Wondering, what is the reason that you prefer to move the frames to Canva instead of working with them in Affinity Designer?
You're welcome, Ruth, and thank you for watching, and commenting! Great question! It comes down to personal choice. I use Designer much of what I do but some use Canva more; both have their benefits. Canva doesn't have the ability to create something as textural and dimensional as this, so starting in Designer gives those who want to use Frames in Canva an option to create something more realistic for their designs. This could just as easily be used in Designer though, by just popping images in to that image placeholder using the Gradient or Vector Flood fill tools. :) Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any additional questions. Thank you again!
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage Thank you so much--that is very helpful!

To my knowledge there is no option to load a displacement map from file on the Affinity Photo 2 which is a shame. Willing to be corrected.
Hi there! Thanks for posting! Both Photo for iPad V2 and Photo for Desktop V2 (which this was filmed on) have the option to load a displacement map from a file, as well as pulling from the layer beneath. 7:07 on the timeline, you'll see the option at the bottom left of the dialog box for the desktop. On the iPad, it's in the contextual menu at the top and the icon looks like a document with an arrow facing downward and to the left. On the iPad version, make sure you toggle on "Add Live Filters" at the top of the Filters drop down. Otherwise it's only giving you filters that need to be applied to raster elements so they won't work. Once you do that, and choose the Live Displace filter, you should be able to apply it to editable text using a file rather than the layer beneath. Quick note though, if you also want to use Blend Ranges on the text layer, I recommend grouping your layer, even if it's a single text layer, and applying either the displace or the blend ranges to the group (but not both). For some reason it doesn't want to apply both to the same layer, so one should be applied to the text layer, the other should be to the group layer, it doesn't matter which. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again!
I have a question about the tutorial: why did you turn the stoke off on the master page, and not on the asset? Is it to give the freedom to use it with lines or simply remove it later as we go? I already saw a lot of things that could have saved me time in my 2024 digital planner. I can't wait to attend your new course.
Hi Te! I leave the stroke on the asset because I don't turn the strokes off on my tables until after I format them with the correct dates for whatever year I'm creating. I could do it with the lines off but I just find it easier to see what I'm doing, as well as make sure I don't need to adjust anything if I decide to change fonts, spacing, etc, with the grid lines on. It also helps to see the lines when I'm placing all the months on the page, so I can really get a feel for spacing. I would just prefer to adjust my dates first, then remove the lines as I go. Let me know if you have any questions about the above, or any others! I'm so glad you found things that could help you with your new planner! I look forward to seeing you in the course! Thank you for watching!
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage it makes total sense your way of work. Thank you.
Lovely Tracey, as usual. I do have an idea for a Skillshare course, related with a digital planner I created in Affinity Publisher and it's on Etsy for sale. But I would like to know from you how would you do it. I will send you a private message (either Skillshare on on your community), I'm ok with sharing the Affinity file with you, and maybe this can become good content idea to a course teaching how to create a similar planner (it has 840 links between pages) in a easy way (with half of the work I had).
Thank you very much for watching, Te! I appreciate the compliment as well :) I would be happy to take a look at what you created and we can talk about what you're thinking in terms of a class. It may actually cross over with the full planner class I'm creating now so it's perfect timing. There is no direct messaging on Skillshare but you can send me an email via the Creator Collage :) Thank you again!
This is Fantastic Tracey

Hey Tracey thank you for this tutorial. Can you do a semi in depth watercolor brush tutorial? I’m leaning away from adobe and their fresco watercolor brushes are incredible. I want to create some in affinity photo that are similar. Keep up the awesome videos!
Hi there! Thanks so much for watching! If you mean the live watercolor brushes in Fresco (which are definitely amazing!) unfortunately, the brush engine for Photo wouldn't be able to recreate that. However, I can do a tutorial on creating more basic watercolor brushes that still work beautifully, they just wouldn't have the "live" features like Fresco does. Would that work? Thanks so much for the suggestion!
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage that would be great!
You are an amazing teacher. I have zero skill and just some self taught experience with affinity designer and i followed step by step and it turned out amazing!

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for watching my heart shaped bokeh tutorial! I hope you enjoy learning how to create your own bokeh brush in Affinity Photo for iPad. If you're a desktop user, and know where the tools are located, you should be able to follow along as well. (And for those of you on Designer, you can use the pixel persona of the Designer app, both iPad and desktop!) If you have a particular brush you'd like to learn how to make, let me know below! If you have any questions about what you learned, let me know that as well! Thanks again for watching!
I only have text in the icon you clicked ,nothing that says bae line to adjust inside or out of a circle 🤬 so done for today ,frustrated , sorry but great work 👍
I'm so sorry you're frustrated! If you're on the most recent version of V2 for iPad, when you click on the Text Studio (not the artistic text tool but rather the text studio) you should see a spot where you can click a right caret next to Bold, Italic, Underline and Strikethrough. Once you click the caret, you will see more options and want to choose Positioning. Baseline should show there. Make sure you're on the most recent update of the app though because, for some reason, that disappeared for a bit, up until recently, even when you clicked through the path I provided above. This has now been updated. If you are on the most recent version, and followed the paths I mentioned above, but still don't see it, I would go to Serif's forums and provide a screen shot, letting them know you're not finding it but are on the most recent version. Again, I'm so sorry you're frustrated. I truly appreciate you watching!
Hi Tracey - nice video as always Would love if your next Skillshare class was:- export say a group of pattern motifs from Affinity Designer into Illustrator - and make it work in Illustrator Reason : I love Affinity - but also know Illustrator and a lot of us might ditch Illustrator - however - we need to be able to export the files (deliverable) to licensing clients that only work in Adobe thanks so much 😊
Thank you very much for watching, and taking the time to comment! Thanks so much for the suggestion as well! I might consider a quick tip class or tutorial, though there isn't much I can offer given limitations. Unfortunately, as Adobe has made Illustrator's .ai format proprietary, you can't export from Designer in .ai format, so export options are limited (PDF, PSD, EPS). You'd still have to bring it in to Illustrator, make sure your layers are all set, and save it in .ai format, if that's the format your client needs. I could definitely put a quick tip class together on setting up your file so it can be opened in Illustrator using a different format though!
@@Tracey-CreatorCollage thanks Tracey :) I would love to see that class - fyi - my experiments on the ipad - that worked … - what I found - exporting as svg format - bunch of pattern motifs works best - as long as 1. you have no artboard in AD export 2. the motifs have scale with stroke turned on (wish it were at the app level) 3. expanding all gets better results (not always necessary though 👇 4 - saved out to the iCloud I did manage to do just this - export a group of motifs (no texture - or I stippled it with the pencil) in svg format; rasterize nothing; 100% quality - and it came out fairly ok in Ai on the iPad (I live on the ipad ;) I was also able to use the pattern grid feature in Ai on the ipad 😅 - limited - but hey - not bad I even a preview half drop out of it (yes - I know its not a real pattern maker - but fun to mess with) it does work sometimes - in one case I exported a simply motif in AD - a butterfly - svg format - tons of layers - most strokes expanded (also often helps to expand) - I left one part - the antennae as strokes - not expanded - and it was fine sooooo - it depends … ;) Feel free to try out the above :) I would still love to see your take - especially on save in Ai format thanks much :)
