So out of curiosity I looked up the currrent-carrying capacity of 500mm - 1169 amps each, so over 4,500 amps per phase. 3.2 Megawatts total for that lot.
At industrial price of 12.9/kwH, that's about 400 quid an hour!

It's a research facility to try and create nuclear fusion. Basically, what's happening in the sun😳😳

Just because the cables are rated at 4500 amps in total, it doesn’t mean the installation is pulling that amount of juice constantly.
No wonder the lights keep dimming...........

I don't wake up until 8-8.30 so I get a good rest. I always park really near to the job and because I'm not on the clock, I can turn up when I please really. That's the main reason I sleep in the passion wagon😂😂😂

Great content mate. Last time I touched anything like this was during my apprenticeship, my old man loaned me to one of his industrial buddies wiring a private hospital in Cardiff almost 30 years ago. God that was had graft back then....he chucked me a hack saw and had me cut the cables

Half way through my apprenticeship and seeing the videos you post show me what a shite company im with... would love to be getting experience at stuff like that!
Stick with the apprenticeship till the end and then you can move onto stuff like this. It's only a matter of gaining a bit of experience and you can start on the bigger stuff. Stick with it and you'll make it 👍🏻

@@jointechcabling9103 American do :) here I am in my house fed with a single phase 25 amp main fuse. The average (rural-ish) american home is fed 200 amps, newer builds are even fed 400+ amps. Bat shit crazy if you ask me, even if you factor in the 110 volts.
400 amps feed, at normal voltages that's roughly compared to an 80 amp three phase feed. That's proper industrial stuff and they use it to supply electricity to their house. Crazy I tell ya.

How did you get your tape around them lugs. Would be great to see how you crimp them lugs onto cable.

Nice job Tony .that said cable has a mind of its own .you do want to them lined up as best you can ..the panel manufacturers don't make it easy . A bit more thought on there side would help 👍👍👍👍
I agree completely but having spent the last 30 years designing lv switchgear I can tell you the majority of design flaws have there origins at the specifying / qouting stage combine that withe fact that a lot of the time you have no idea what incoming / outgoing cables are going to be as well as theres probably 1 or more non-technical people in the chain etc etc
So what im trying to say is most decent switchgear desiners are well aware of the cableing issues but we are given a very limited pallet to paint with

Tony. cut the bottom of your measuring piece of conduit at a 45 ish degree angle then you can mark the centre directly

Do ye get contracted in specifically to terminate large switchgear and that? Sounds like torturous heaven mate! Done the main feeds into a few large apartment blocks and loved it.

Love your videos. Are you from North East? I live and work around there, I work in IT so biggest cables I deal with is deal with is some 2.5mm kettle leads ha ha but still see some interesting stuff in big data centers and university's

Top video mate, I really like all the problem solving stuff. Do the lugs only go on one side of the busbar, or would that of pushed the problem to the back row? Do you fit larger than 500mm or is this about the biggest?

You're right, it would have pushed the rest of the glands back over and I would have run out of space.
I do 630mms, that's the biggest my crimper will go up to but there are 800 and 1000mm cables out there. I think they use 930mm on the railway.
Do you terminate many aluminium cables versus copper ones?
I have done in the past but mainly copper. Ali is a massive pain in the arse!!

If they can get super conducting cables down to room temperature, the diameter of the cable would be smaller, installing cables like in house wiring.😳

I've been talking about this exact thing recently. It seems that they are designing jobs using generic parameters rather than actually visiting site and taking into account the variations that will occur.

4:42 What if you flip that first lug, then the cable slide a inch backwards?
There was a reason for it coz I thought about doing just that. I think the bolt was too long with the added 5mm of the lug.
Are those stainless glands Tony??
Could you fit though in the other side of the buss bar moving it back the thickness of the buss bar giving more space between the glands.
I checked this and the glands didn't fit. They were too close to turn the lock nuts.

Unfortunately I haven't. I work on my own coz it's easier for me. I had lads working for me back in the early 2000s and it was more hassle than I've ever known. It's nice that I can please myself these days and not have to worry about anyone else.

Genuinely never worked with swa singles before, was just curious why aluminium glands?
Because the armouring is aluminium. I assume brass gland might have a reaction with the aluminium of the armouring.
How do you know your phasing ?? Is there any markers on them or is it just however you want and switch at the other end ?
The cable gang mark them both ends. I just have to make sure I don't get them mixed up😂😂
