I really like how much this bloke respects the bloke that built it
Classy, humble person. The 100 found the right owner.
When you said most modified vehicle i never imagined it was THIS modified.
You me and everyone else until you really see what it’s about 😁
@@Ronny_Dahl theres a kit you can buy in the states,to arc weld from your vehicle. several actually.. look up power tanks, inflates a 35 in 30 secs..''its engineered.''. only in australia.. nanny country.... he should of fitted d44 diffs, so he could have a turbo diesel & not blow centres..axles,bearings,uni,s,ect..funny how land rover [ range ],had a v8 with 4 coils, while toyota had a 50 hp 6 cyl & leafs..took till the 80 series to catch up..then,they lost the plot again..
"She arc welds pretty well" Game changer. Out with the coffee pods.
Did he Show is welder setup? Using a alternator? I might have missen it

@@jimmyy9273 thanks
Best modified ep I've watched so far. This bloke is good on camera and has a bit to say which is good to see. Mad respect for his respect of the car.
Awsome total respect to old mate for not wanting to claim it as his build or for changing such a unique build
I'm in love with this rig!!! As a Rover owner in the U.S. I get a lot of shit from the jeep crowd but I absolutely love my RRC! Its been all over the NW and SW of the U.S. and going strong!
That's something like what I dream of in a 4x4. LR simplistic basis with Toyota grunt and drive train - I just don't have the skills. The builder has done an absolute treat!
Those long arms are something else
Reminds me of my youth when we would build cars from whatever we could find
No you tube back then
A great build. Ron should interview next the guy that built it. He has good fabrication skills.
Who is Rob?
@@lastknownlocation8760 already correct it. Was distracted. Thanks.
Probably the best modified yet. Vehicle that was actually modified not just a bunch of aftermarket accessories bolted on
Lukes attitude towards this truck is spot on. Im a big believer in not taking any vehicle out of context...dont erase its history...everything has it purpose. He is what i consider the quintessential caretaker....Best modified yet if you ask me!
I remember reading about this truck in 4wd action as a kid, it was awesome then and is brilliant now.
I love it when someone takes parts from this, that and the other and creates something like this. The air con and cruise control are perfect!
Defender 100 or The Range Defender Cruiser. I like it a lot, I like the bloke that owns it and his attitude. What a relatable fell good video for a Sunday morning. Cheers Ronny.
P.S. Have my sub!
This is the true 4x4 truck. Old school, simple and reliable!! What a weapon!!
Needed a Toyota engine though, either way it’s sick truck
I've owned 2 Defenders. A 300 Tdi and a 2.4 Puma. Neither of which could ever be described as reliable....
@@typhoon-7 i've owned my 300 TDI Defender since 2006. Before I bought it it belonged to a Bungy jumping company in Queenstown New Zealand carrying people in and out of skippers canyon every day for 10 years. For my 15 years of ownership it has been nothing but reliable..........
@@jimbolr110 same
@@typhoon-7 I don’t understand the content of your reply to this guys comment, it’s reliable because it has a Toyota 1HD-FT engine which is probably the most reliable engine Toyota ever made for a Landcrusier, mechanical yet injected, turbo and came out in the best Landcrusier a Toyota has ever built the 80series VX limited, 40thed series from 95-97. many other engines in the 80series but this is the best.
No one is saying or arguing that Defenders were or are reliable.
Good on ya Luke for not claiming the build ya self 👌👌 the bloke that owned it before has a old forward control with a camper setup should get that on here Ronny 👍👍
This was way more interesting than I expected when I saw the army truck in the thumbnail! What an absolute work of art
Wow, that’s a Frankenstein rig built for the task. Love it!
Nice rig. Glad to see the Modified series back, slightly updated but still with the OG format.
Lovely walk through and backstory.
finally, modified! missed this a lot, thx
They been too busy swimming in the floods at there base camps to get content out 👻🤣🤙
This really is the ultimate old school 4WD - 100" wheel base, aluminum lightweight body, reliable toyota diesel and drivetrain and 9.2L p/100!
This is the best car on modified hands down
Totally agree Luke. Leave it as a monument to the gentleman that built it. It will be around long after a lot of modern 4wd's are dead and buried
Much respect for that vehicle!
Thanks Ronny! good timing to watch in this lockdown.
This is awesome. Such a humble dude. Need more stuff like this
The cruise control thing is amazing and really funny...very very smart idea.. love it
Good to see the old girl still alive 👍. Awesome to see yet another amazingly cool old rig.
Great episode Ronnie 😉
Keep up the good work mate.
This was one of the best yet! Thanks for sharing this👍
Love it . Such an old-school weapon
That's pretty special, for sure! Definitely a fan.
Hey Ronnie, Thanks For sharing this. Something i would like to build myself.
Great story genuine guy that now owns it.
The blokes a legend , old school 4x4 , old school owner and he reminds me of Roothy ! …..keep it simple !! 😎👍🍻
Great video! Something different and awesome!
like my 100inch defender theses trucks are very modified and unique ...
Awesome truck! Glad modified is back.
Andrew St. Pierre wet dream right here. Toyota and land rover franken-rig.
Awesome setup!
Man that’s a hell of a build. Especially considering when it was built. I thought mine was over the top but at least I still have the original chassis and body. Welll mostly anyway 😂
Hats off to the build
Great article.Brightened my dreary wet Sunday morning. Land Rover built a series of 100 inch coil sprung vehicles in the late 70's for a Swiss Army contract trial. Obviously the suspension was not heavily modified. Unfortunately they were unsuccessful . The 100 inch wheel base was never developed as it was deemed to close to the planned 110 and 90 vehicles' .In the Mid 80's they had another go at the contract and built several 110 vehicles with automatic gearboxes with a variety of engines including 3.5ltr EFI V8's. Bodies were all soft top with vinyl 2 part hoods along the lines of a Pinzgauer, Swing out rear half doors with one off spare wheel carriers. Two of these 110's are known to still exist both V8's 1 in Switzerland and 1 in the UK. What could have been!
Love it. What a build
That was very cool. What a vehicle!!!
Coolest vehicle yet
A great looking and very capable off road vehicle
Really awesome, also good to know that I can mate my H55F to a 1HD-FT. I'd love that engine in my 60 series.
Epic game changer right there 👌
such a cool ' old school ' machine .. very little bought , mostly modified or adapted from another vehicle
Defender body with toyota motor would be the best combo
Hey unsubscribed from a channel Ive been subbed to for 10 yrs thank youtube for thinking for us all.
Great post Woot Woot. No frills weapon ...real deal owner nice ...
Just so people know, it’s not easy mating up the front end chassis off of a RRC to the front clip of a Defender, impeccably done here.
Bloody awesome vehicle👍👏
Landy... is that Land Rover or Landcruiser best Frankenstein beast, go the Landy. Good one Ronny
Yes more modified 👍🏻🤙🏼
This is a beast...
I gotta watch this later but I had a sec to say this thing has me harder than Chinese arithmetic!!! Can’t waif to watch
Awesome👍
I love it.
Absolute weapon!!
Love it
Mad rig!
Space wise, the Toyota 6 cylinder diesel isn't to big. They fit the Cummins 6BT into a Defender engine bay and use the TD5 radiator and intercooler.
Looks owsome. Top shit Def 100. Cheers mate 🍻
9.2L/100km fuel consumption surprised me the most about this! Absolutely phenomenal
On skinny tires yes it is posssible
Meanwhile in the states with our gas engines most built rigs get like 10-12mpg…..unreal
Cool, I'd take the Isuzu 3.9 over that Toyota slug but still very cool
"a 4x4 is born" tv show built one of these years back and is worth checking out, very entertaining presenter and you get to see all the steps involved in doing this car
Camo paint ruins it but 🤷each to their own
Amazing build, as much as I enjoyed driving the LR V8 109s when I was in country, been thinking of getting one as a project, this is actually inspiring had some other plans but this actually makes the mind off grid with options, lol, this would have been awesome back in the day so as we had some long trips on and off road to get to locations for exercises and deployments etc , great truck, amazing build and custom work, simple but we’ll thought out def lots of work, what a vehicle..🤙
Ps if it’s ever for sale (lol) asked by thousands🤙
Kudos to the owner for committing to preserving it as it is. Much respect.
What a legend
This thing will still go going in another 20 years I bet. If it aint broke, dont fix it.
This is a military vehicle, despite what is said. It can be reliable off road most of the time. This type of vehicle has no power steering which makes it so hard to steer. I have been in many and it is far from comfortable. Good on him though, amazing story.
19:54 that's about as good as our Isuzu dmax with a roof rack... damn that bar work increased drag(previously doing low 7L/100km). I miss this good ol' custom stuff, especially landys. Sidewinder is a good example of this. Rangie chassis, fibreglass body, p76 motor, dual banjo axles for rear steer and all the maxidrive under the sun. Turns out it was the owner of key 4wd car, the same fella who invented maxidrive.
Cool
Rangie frame is 2mm 75x150 box section in most areas. Key areas are doubled up to 4mm.
Sick truck, Oh men, must have big Ball’s to drive such a vehicle and a very good Orthopedic doctor for back if it does not have an air suspension seat! Safe trips… cheers
It's coils all around. Coil sprung Rangies and Landies are known for having excellent suspension.
yes more modified eps
That’s cool and has a nice flex. Better than a sahara😂
Holy smokes there’s a lot going on there .
i was on the list to buy this car , marc sold it to luke because he knew luke would apreciate it and obviously luke does
Used to train military on these things, nearly unstoppable even stock.
lol "if you didn't know it was here"
yeah that's crazy
There is another 100 landy in Perth with same range rover base but with a v8
No LEDs,,,RESPECT!!
Pretty upset the bloke is getting better fuel economy than my 3.0L Prado 150 hahahha. What a great build.
Really nice episode on the sassed colorado. Can you also do a review of Dylan's sassed D40 Navara?..Would be awesome
98 % of cars was landrover now 2% are use of road in australia ! look nice that's it
Should have named it a Land Defender
Land cruiser defender*
thats interesting, in the old army 110 we could drive while using PTO winch... or could put low/high into neutral for just using pto...
Plenty of these in the UK.
20:15 weight is far more of a factor than aerodynamic.
All depends on how fast you are going. Can't imagine that thing doing anymore than 100-110 kmh
@@thomastaylor408 Since when is top speed a factor when it comes to offroad prowess??
@@29VK05 Lance was talking about fuel economy and the effect vehicle weight has. I was just saying that weight comes second to drag and aerodynamics once you start getting to certain speeds. Never said it was bad that that thing isn't fast. You're right it's a tough 4x4 not a race car.
I do like Land Rover Defenders and this one looks great. I wonder how it would be received in the UK if i had a Land Rover with a Toyota engine? At least it wouldn't leak as much oil as a standard Defender. A great idea that really works.
BMW engine swaps with M57s are becoming popular over there so I doubt there would be much issue.
I thought 10.5l/100km was good in a Land Rover (300tdi) but 9.2! Great Landy though
Yeah thats what i use to get in mine so i assume automatically itd be under 10
How to make a defender reliable, Put a Toyota engine and gearbox in it haha
....yeah replace gearboxes with striped mainshafts.....
hey Rhonny, when is the review on the Garmin Overlander coming out?
That eco though 😳😳
my 200 tdi on 255/85R16 also uses the same amount of fuel.
