I had my eyes tested last week and was told I need glasses (and I need to start wearing them everyday as soon as I gets them) but I haven’t bought a pair yet because I can’t find any I like. There are lots of cute pairs but every pair I try on makes me look worse. I can’t find any that make me look good. And I just can’t make the conscious decision to wear something that makes me look worse. I also just don’t know how to get the glasses to work with my hair. I don’t know what to do because I really need glasses but I just don’t like any of them. My optometrist also said I should wait before trying contact lenses.

I want to try on lots of glasses but they need to clean them after each person has tried them on so I feel bad for trying on 20 pairs because that means the next people to come in can’t try them. Trying on glasses in general is hard right now. It’s hard with masks because it’s harder to think with a mask on and then you gotta keep taking the mask on and off when trying them. I wish I got glasses earlier this year when you didn’t need to wear masks here but I also had good eyesight then.

Hey guys, its an optical dispenser here! Here are some more things to consider when picking frames
    - Is the frame touching your cheeks?
(frames are most comfy when resting on the nose not the cheeks)(consider metal nose pads or a plastic bridge)
    - If you have a high prescriptions try not to go for big frames
(the bigger the lens, the heavier on the face)
    - If u have a high prescription, try plastic frames! (if you don't want to pay $$ for thinner lenses)
(Plastic frames hide lens thickness better than metal)
Good luck to everyone finding their perfect match!

    • @minigirl6379
      @minigirl6379 Před 2 lety +15

I must disagree. Larger frames /large lenses are preferable for strong prescriptions, especially if you need Progressive lenses. Small lenses are a nightmare for Progressives. Never recommend basic plastic lenses for people with stronger scripts. They should go up to the next tier of lenses, which are much thinner ,and they accommodate the stronger scripts better, especially if you have astigmatism. They only cost about 30-40 dollars more, and it's money well spent. You don't experience blurring and distortion with the thinner lenses.

Idk my prescirption total is higher than -12 and yea i prefer slight bigger fraames and im willing to pay for the thinner lens...like actually think about it. even if you get plastic frames the basic lense will still weigh it down especially with prescription as high as mine. However this is personal preference that really comes down to price. I pay for high index cause even with plastic frames i got lense that bulge out alot.

@nai hi! Yes, glasses for computer and/or reading will typically differ.
      Long answer:
Computer glasses often help you see better in the “intermediate zone” which is roughly arms length whereas reading is certainly more close up. Because our eyes begin to lose their ability to accommodate to see up close around 40, depending on your age your optometrist might prescribe an “add”. This will help your eyes be more comfortable up close. If you’re under that age, your doctor may still prescribe a small “bump” in prescription to make it more comfortable for you. That small bump is what I personally have.
      What to tell optician:
Start by telling them exactly what you told me: you work on the computer and you read. They will walk you through the process and help you out with their best options for you. They’d be able to tell you, based on your RX, if you need a progressive, computer lens, reading, single vision, etc etc. I’d definitely get an anti-glare coating too!! I hope this helps. (Sorry for the novel!)

Trends in eyewear are more material than shape bound. Like right now there's a nice blend of thinner metals, where just a few years ago chunky accetates dominated. Shape and fit still come down to your face and style. It's hard to ever go wrong with a good accetate, but now more pastel and clear/champaign colors are dominating that realm, while tortoise and blacks will always live as the classic traditional colors. Bridge fit matters above all else when it comes to comfort ;)

This video should come with a disclaimer that while this is all good advice to start with it in no way prepares a person to truly fit their own glasses. But yes, personal style is very important and sometimes forgotten when choosing glasses.
So first of all, 16 frames isn't a very wide variety of styles to choose from, especially when many of them were aesthetically similar from the start. Only 2 that I saw had any sort of angular quality to them. There was also not a lot of width variety available, and I was shocked that Alex didn't end up in a narrow fit frame.
Second, you left out 2 extremely important fit points. The first is aesthetic and that is the brow line. Yes, the brow line is partially defined by face shape but with glasses it's a focal point and needs to be paid extra attention. Ideally glasses should always stop at or below the eyebrow, not above, and they should try and follow your brow line. Lifted brow, straight brown, drooped brow. Most men have a straight or drooped brow, most women have a lifted or straight brow. There are exceptions to this rule, when you get a man with a lifted brow and sense of adventure, don't be afraid to embrace the cateye.
The other fit issue not addressed is perhaps ***THE MOST IMPORTANT THING*** I've learned working as an optician, THE NOSE BRIDGE. Some people will come in with a preference for metal nose pads or molded plastic nose bridge, the thing to note is that while a well fitted plastic nose bridge will be the most comfortable way to wear glasses, a badly fitted bridge can be the most painful or just must obnoxious pair of glasses you'll ever have. Always check for gapping in the bridge fit, it should be making as much contact with the top and side of your nose as possible. You also have to consider, do I have a low bridge? Do I have high cheekbones? If either of those answers are yes you should probably stay away from plastic bridges in western retail markets. If you have a West African-esque bone structure and bridge you'll find some brands like Sean John or sometimes MCM will design specifically for you, unfortunately if you're East Asian or just a white girl with a button nose you're out of luck most of the time, stick to metal nose pads or ask if they have anything with a "universal bridge". Some cities, like San Francisco, will have eyeglass stores that specifically for the East Asian market, giving you more options. Just keep in mind the largest optical company in the world is based in Italy, Essilor Luxottica, and as such is designed primarily for Caucasian noses. I could literally talk about nose bridge fit all day, so I'm gonna stop now.
Third, always take into account your prescription when choosing a frame. For most people this isn't an issue but for stronger (and sometimes lighter) prescriptions it absolutely is. If you have a light Rx and don't want to spend the money to upgrade to the thinner more durable polycarbonate lenses DO NOT get an open bottomed frame finished with nylon wire (called semi rimless) or a completely frameless drill mounted frame, your lenses will not be strong enough for these styles. If you have an Rx over + or - 5.00 consider smaller and rounder lenses, they cut down on lens thickness.
Any brick and mortar eyeglass shop should have opticians on staff trained to help you with your selection. I completely agree with Tim that your personal style is very important when it comes to glasses. If you and your optician aren't jiving on style ask their advice about fit (bridge, temple length, frame width, prescription) but know that you hold the power over style selection, don't let them force their style opinions onto you.
Side note, cool metals look amazing on warm skin tones. In the US gold is the trend for higher fashion glasses right now, in fact silver can be very difficult to find, especially for women. But in Korea or Japan silver is much easier to find on the market, because it looks fantastic on warm skin

I'm gonna change into a new pair of glasses soon bc the plastic bridge of mine broke and we couldn't find any opticals that have spares of those. I used to wear those semi rimless frames bc they were my previously my mum's and she probably just didn't want to spend on new frames that time and yeah my optical back then also advised me to pick full framed glasses the next time I switch since my lenses are about .4cm in width. I'm planning to get wire-framed specs. Like the trendy ones right now in places around Korea, probably the metal ones you're talking about but I'm a little skeptical since they are relatively thin. Would those do despite my thick lenses? I hope you can reply to this it would be a great help😅

I chose the Arlo frames and got a pair of sunnies too, the Dunbar sun rx. My skin complexion is pale, (I'm a ginger). The translucent grey of the Arlo looked good I thought. Also rounder frames are in fashion right now so I wanted to go against the grain and got some square ones!

I'm now a -2.25 & -2.00 and i also have a yellowish undertone as well :)

I just started watching your channel, and I got an email saying it was time for my eye appointment. I thought to myself, "I wonder if Tim has a video over glasses."
    Great timing haha!

I recently changed my style from oversized to rectangular metal frame and I am surprised they look good on me and make me look studious 😁
Btw I think you are the most active youtuber on this earth... You simply replied to nearly all the comments 😀

To be honest I've never really liked spec-savers glasses as I always find the frames to be too small for my face ,However I love the affordability . I haven't yet tried the 'branded' glasses such as converse or similar . I will maybe have to save up to buy a 'designer' pair as they might come in more size variation :O

I had my eyes tested last week and I went to OPSM because my mum thought Specsavers was too pushy and she liked OPSM. My experience at OPSM was pleasant but the glasses were way too expensive. 90% of them were over $400. They even have Chanel and Gucci glasses. I went to Specsavers and found they had a lot more ‘normal’ glasses and a lot cheaper. All the designer ones were all were unique designs and very out there. I actually tried on a pair of converse glasses at specsavers and thought it was really interesting that they made glasses. Now that I think about it, I should of really tried on the Gucci glasses while I was in OPSM because it will probably be the only chance I get to touch something Gucci lol.
