    We look at every Huge Power Pokémon in this video and figure out just how strong they are!

      I like that! I think too many people just go "DURRR BIG NUMBER GO BOOM!" when it comes to stats, but some of the most interesting pokemon are those who "yes it has a higher special attack, but it's physical attack is JUST good enough that when invested, could lead to some cool stuff". I use a Contrary Lurantis for raids despite it's way lower special attack cause it can be compensated. It is slower than Serperior which I still don't have yet, but it definitely gets the job done (speed really matters in raids). I'd love to see more pokemon that utilize a weaker stat effectively like that just to change it up.

    I find it interesting how differently Gamefreak treats Attack and Special Attack. There are plenty of moves and abilities that increase Attack and comparatively few that boost Special Attack. Not to mention that the upper limit for base Attack stats is generally higher than base Special Attack
    But on the other hand, there's also far more counterplay against physical attacks. Intimidate is one of the best and most widespread abilities in the game and burn halves Attack and neither of these has a special-based counterpart. There's also more Pokemon with really high Defense than high Special Defense. The only Special damage mitigation that exists is Assault Vest

    • @bensell982
      @bensell982 Před 4 měsíci +13

      Well not the only one. Rock type Pokemon get a 50% sp def boost in a sandstorm. There's also the Eviolite which I'm pretty sure Game Freak had no clue would make certain pokemon bulkier than their evolved forms and only added it because of how late Unova pokemon evolve.
      Other ways to punish high attack stats are Foul Play and the confusion status. Both of which are why when creating special attacking pokemon and support pokemon competitive players want to get their attack IV at 0 and want an attack lowering nature. This is also why Swagger is a staple of competitive while Fatter is never used.

    • @brzt4256
      @brzt4256 Před 4 měsíci +6

      Definitely interesting and I prefer it this way. There's also no SpAtk equivalent of Intimidate. Perfect symmetry would make the game much less interesting IMO and Gamefreak realise this as they've added asymmetry in types (Dark with priority, Grass with powder moves, etc.)

    It may not have huge power, but light ball does have the same effect for pikachu.
    For those wondering, at max evs, attack boosting nature and 31 ivs, it gains an attack stat of 458.
    I'm not sure what an interaction between Pure power and light ball would be so it could then either get boosted to 916 (229 x 2 x 2) or 687 (229 x 3).
    Edit: changed huge to pure since I've become aware there is a practical difference between them.

      @ultimaterecoil1136 My conclusion is mostly the same as yours, but "If you don't get to attack" is still an oversimplification of the actual problem. There are ways, such as focus sash, for frail pokemon to get to attack . The problem is that a pokemon being able to get a single k.o. isn't (often) enough to justify a teamslot. That each pokemon exists on a team for the end goal of one pokemon taking multiple k.o.s and that any pokemon's attacking stat is only as important as its use towards this win condition.
