I hope this observation on how he sings helps you figure out how the voice works better, so you can learn how to make smart choices in your own voice.

I guess you could say Abel is an extremely able singer.
Josh McBride GET OUT
im calling the police
i thought abel is pronounced as uh-bell
👉🏾🚪
Joe Tyler yes it’s supposed to be but people still don’t realize or they just say it either way lol
“You´re a dumb person if you think Michael Jackson can’t sing" 😍😍😍
Second best male singer of all time ❤️
@@apjbrw First*
It's true tho
apjbrw RL second to Freddie Mercury ❤️
Madison Becker ehhh first
abel: *breathes*
sam: they're connected
I
I don’t care what he’s singing in as long as he continues to. He’s my fave male vocalist of today.
If you would care about his message in songs you would be astonished even more
@altkovac She.
#StopACTA2 #SaveFreeInternet I’m well aware of his message in songs. Sam asked what do we think he’s singing in meaning falsetto, chest voice, a mix, to which I replied I don’t care which range he’s in so long as he continues.
Omg l love your words ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I honestly think Abel is the best male vocalist. People are scared to say it, but... Who's better? Sure, Micheal Jackson. A few others.. But who else?
Are we just gonna ignore Sam saying people who say Michael Jackson can't sing are dumb? It was the greatest thing I've heard today. Thanks Sam!
Nobody really thinks MJ can't sing tho right?
@@crosita1 I certainly hope not.
@@crosita1 i would say the only reason for people saying that is cuz theyre haters and for some strange reason actually think that "he did it"....i wont even actually say the term that other people do...he was set up and people that dont realize that are in a lot more trouble than they realize because it goes way beyond him being set up. So many artists/legends have been set up and killed off for money to be made off of their catalogues. It makes me sick but it also means that there are people here on earth that are that powerful that they can get away with such evil acts. Im not even worried about the actual covid19 virus but what this pandemic really means for mankind very very soon. Wake up people do some research and it will all make sense if you arent as naive as my Mother.
@@rebeccaphillips9147 But whether he was a child molester or not has nothing to do with whether he could sing.
@@crosita1 I dont think you got the point of what i was saying. Read the orig. Comment again then read mine again focusing on the first part of what i said...
Abel (The Weeknd) is coached by Ron Anderson (he was actually with him at SNL for this performance too), who focus a lot on working your head voice. If you go watch his performances before 2013 - before he got with Ron Anderson - he would sing falsetto and break and/or jump a lot, but now he can do what we hear here.
verdean613 the weeknd started getting singing lessons right before beauty behind the madness dropped
Yeah he definitely was a terrible live singer prior to this show.
Produced By Khirey Akeem ???
TonyC317 lol just ignore him
Produced By Khirey Akeem Weak bait
It funny that other artist after releasing an album go on a ton of interviews and shows... but The Weeknd doesn’t do it. He stays mysterious and knows that people will listen to him anyways.
SmiX Music it’s just what comes when you’ve established yourself as an all time great
He's also not a fan of doing interviews.
frank ocean does the same.. both geniuses
Im almost sure that he has said that he just doesnt enjoy it and is kind of stays to himself. Its just who abel is as a person no need to drag it
he just lets the music explain itself
"He is able to..." Of course; he's Abel.
M. Bronx one of the greates artist we have
pls pls pls dooo more the weeknd, I loved your in depth analysis of this performance! I would recommend you the "call out my name" live performance at coachella :)
Yes yes yes
OG FACTS
I love how smooth and soft his voice is no matter how loud or low his sound is. It gives off so much R&B vibes and I love that so much.
Wouldn’t The Weeknd be more pop than R&B?
Prahadish Srinivasan maybe his newer stuff but the old stuff hell naw
@@prahadishsrinivasan4783 Pop just means Popular
@@kingkatiin2658 So is hip hop music pop music? Is Kendrick Lamar a pop artist?
@@khanbw nope kendrick is hip hop
After I heard Scared to Live on the official album, I thought "this doesn't sound as good as the SNL performance". Few days later, deluxe album drops and the SNL performance is put on there.😂
The SNL is way better..I love it
Lmao same
Crazy how your better live than in a studio, its usually the other way round! I love the Weeknd
Agreed SNL version was mind blowing!
OH MY GOD SAME
I’m glad I’m not the only one that calls The Weeknd by his actual name lol
Janae Proctor early 2010’s tumblr users understand lol
A good amount pronounce it wrong tho
@@MattGarcyaDC is it uh-bell or able
Mangekyou pronounced like able
Mangekyou it’s Ahh bel i’m ethiopian and know how to say it lol
"He's gonna feel it in his head"
In your eyes music video: loses head.
nice.
Ha!
i don’t think he’s singing falsetto at all, that’s just his voice type. he’s showed time and time again that he has a wide chest range it honestly sounds great.
Lol Abel never sings in chest. It's mix. A high mix combined with the brightness of his voice
@@harrypotter6894 Yeah, it's mixed, especially when he transitions to lower notes
its not mix its pure chest. he just has a light voice
PaprikaVEVO no it’s definitely not chest lol
Is not chest, dumb.
Sam I already loved ur personality and valued your knowledge BUT you love The Weeknd/Trilogy too?! how dope!
XO
Sam “giving the big neck muscles something to do” so they don’t interfere with the small singing muscles reminds me of Cesar Millan, the dog whisperer giving dogs little backpacks 🎒 and putting them on the treadmill so they feel useful with their little job and don’t feel the need to destroy your shoes 👠.
I love this comment.
I hate Cesar but not all his ideas are bad😂
I love that you made the connection with him and Michael. I am not a singer and know nothing technically but I have a good ear and am a huge Michael fan. I've been saying he sounds like Michael for a long time. The vibrato man!
everyone does. ever since House of balloons
Literally everyone says that
Listen to Abel's cover of D.D
I think this connection was very clear to everyone since he first stepped on the scene...
I love The Weeknd. His earlier stuff, and his newer stuff.
Love The Weeknd, basically Michael meets dark gritty noir-ish music, I agree with Sam that Trilogy is his masterpiece (even though the rest of his albums are great as well)
Rickerby Music well a lot of people don’t know this, Abel looked up to MJ and that was his person he wanted to be like. That’s why their sounds are similar if you noticed that. That’s also why he recreated Dirty Diana as D.D.
3:08 yea well his head comes off In the recent music video 😂
That scared me when I saw it😂
Omg hhhhah
This! 🤣🤣🤣
Joshua G 😂😂😂
"He's great.
He's great.
He's great."
🤷♂️
HIS VOCALS WERE FIREEEEE
The Weeknd has the most unique voice I think fr fr 👑
When abel and bruno collab. Im gonna lose my shit.
Brooooooooo🔥🔥🔥😶😶😶
I didn’t even think of that🤯🤯🤯
That’s illegal bro
No
Bruno who?
He's said before that he's inspired by Ethiopian artists -- as you probably know he's Ethiopian himself. If you were to listen to (traditional) Ethiopian music, you can easily hear what he's influenced by. He translated an Ethiopian singing style to his own brand of music. Also the head moving thing is actually something most Ethiopian artists do. Look up a live performance and you'll see the same thing!
yes!
Thank you!! Its the first thing I thought when I had just started to listening to his music and was always surprised that I didnt see pipo point out that he sounds like Ethiopian musicians
N . T . A were can I find the interview that u talk about
@@seadaarebu1040 idk, it was years ago, but it stuck with me. I think if you search on 'The Weeknd Ethiopian music' you'll find similar interviews
Exactly thankyou for recognized that
Abel really is one of the greatest singers I've ever heard. I love that you mentioned Trilogy because it indeed is a masterpiece.
“A lot of people who sing pop music and R&B, well R&B less, but like they’re kind of afraid of vibrato, especially - they think it’ll make them sound too classical, and it’s just not the case.”
"we fell apaaart...it kinda falls apart...it FALLS APART"
Listen to the weeknd “call out my name coachella performance” if you want to see him sing with a lot more power and volume
I am so in love with his new album. He’s helping me get through so much
He is incredible you can feel it his concert his voice is very sweet.
I have always loved his voice too, but you can tell he has really improved his technique nowadays.
Trilogy was amazing, along with Kissland
He's definitely the modern-day Michael Jackson. His new album "after hours" took us on a journey unparalleled by other artists.
Even though im a drummer. Learnt alot about techiniques vocalists use from your videos. Has really helped when working with singers
Great to hear !
@@Rosannasfrienddidn't know you can hear comments , nice
@@almubarkmohand3429 lmao
You mentioned Michael Jackson in the video, will you ever react to a compilation of his best live vocals? It would be interesting
He's exaggerating the head jerk because he's in character
*defense* Bulls6 u really know ✨
He bites off his words like MJ
I love this as a description for what MJ does.. it fits perfectly!
Please do more Weeknd! His voice is so complexing
The head movements could help him form the shape hes aiming for. I've noticed it in other artists whose head direction goes along with the note they're moving towards.
I think he's moving his head to help him internalize the rhythm of the music. I think the way and where he emphasizes the pulses in the music is what makes his music cool.
Yay!!!!! I'm so glad you posted it brightens my day up!
I'm a massive XO fan who also really enjoys your analysis videos, so this was a little bit of heaven for me.
Stay safe Sam😊
love from 🇬🇧
the best voice teacher. I am so grateful for your beautiful work! ♡
Would u say he’s dramatizing his head movements and mouth movements because he’s is really into the song that his emotions are shown by his head and mouth movements?
There are no words to explain how much i love YOU and your channel! There’s always a smile on my face watching your reactions
Yes. This is what we needed.❣️
7:19 that's how the mosquitoes sing coming to my ear when am asleep at night.😂😂
i love that i took choir all through HS and i understand everything you’re saying
I love this channel. Keep up the great work Sam!
So glad to see you❣️ You were missed... Great reaction to The Weeknd. Hope to see you a lot while social distancing❤️
I LOVE, love, love Abel's voice, too. I have seen a couple of live performances where I sense deep down, he gets a bit nervous singing live on stage, but maybe those were performances in the pre-Ron Anderson coaching days, as another commentor suggested. It's nice to hear his voice analysed, though. So much to learn from this, as always. I do think, though, I prefer his studio work compared to live.
He s a straight up genius .. not to mention blessed with one of the best voices ever IMO!? What gets me the most is how relatable all of his music is with me and my life .. how does he do that??? It’s hard to explain and actually mind boggling .. still amazes me to this day!
Wonderful analysis. You’re awesome. Thank you for this content too. I can’t seem to find too many vocal coaches who actually know what they’re talking about when it comes to The Weeknd. He’s certainly an interesting character with a beautiful voice.
Hey Sam. Thanks for the content! Really enjoy your channel.
My first time watching you , and I really like how you pause and explain your thoughts and teach us these things. Im not a singer or anything but this video was super cool and interesting
Love vibrato! He's telling a story and the tremor in the voice matches the tremor of emotion as also seen in facial expression and body movement.
Check out his newest album After Hours if you love the Trilogy! It has a lot of similar vibes while still retaining his newer pop sound and it's honestly the best thing he's done since those three albums.
Sam, thank you so much for your reaction to "The Weeknd" He is a very talented singer, so soothing and sweet but powerful too. I'm a fan.! ...I would love for you to react to more of his music please. Thank you for sharing with us. Stay safe honey.!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen you analyse Lara Fabian videos? You totally should, she’s so well-known for her extremely strong technique and emotional commitment (like in « Je suis malade » or « Adagio » from the concert From Lara With Love).
Ugh i LOVE adagio
YEEES. LOVE HER!
Check out the second half of “I was never there” and his song with cashmere cat “wild love” to hear him in falsetto (just two examples)
Would love one if you did a video on Frank Ocean and/or Donald Glover/Childish Gambino. Both extremely versatile artists.
I know nothing about music but I enjoy watching you and I’m learning as I go! You are awesome 👏🏼
Abel has such amazing talent. I've been obsessed since 2011/2012. If it ain't XO then it gotta go.
He mixes really well AND his voice is brighter than everyone. His natural timbre sounds very very bright
the way youre saying he modified the word “scared” is how i normally say “scared.” same thing with your example with “love” 😂😂😂
The weeknd has a perfect voice let's be honest
I DIDN'T EXPECT THIS. OMGGG, I'M SCREAMINGGGGG
gosh I missed you so much, and here you come with 2 videos in one day: I'm happy now!
He actually did a cover of dirty diana and i thought it was Mj first
🤡
Who! Oooouuuu!! Woo!!!
3:00 You get to see him be a head bobble. All good! Good concept that those muscles aren't important for your voice.
Hey dude! I just wanna let you know that I absolutely adore your content. Please never stop!

Yes! Trilogy is the best! its my favorite project lol he really is an amazing singer and artist.

The Trilogy was the best thing in the past two decades 🤯

I love that you love Trilogy! My favorite
Oh My Gosh sooooooo happy you did this!!!❤👏❤👏❤👏❤👏❤
Thankya Thankya Thankya!!
Also 100% agree about him and MJ being comparable. Stay safe🙏
That's a really good point about the neck muscles. Never realized how much they tense up when I sing!
First time watching and this was insightful as a singer. I'll definitely subscribe.
Would be awesome to have you reacting to the whole album, especially to Blinding Lights (there are some live performances already) and to In Your Eyes: the 80s vibes are unbelievable
Right as you said Trilogy was your fav I lost it. Subbed👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
i'm so damn in love with abel, jeez.
i'd love to see more reactions of you to him i really enjoyed it, there's sooo many thing i don't know.
There are people who think MJ can't sing? Omg! His voice was so beautiful. I'm shocked. 😱
You're awesome, Sam
Great video dude 🤘🏻
Love the content! Just earned a new sub! Xo
I love these, especially when we can tell you’re a fan before you even say it.
This is the first time I see your channel and I’m glad that you appreciate Abel as much as I do because he really does have an amazing talent. I also LOVE trilogy like that it’s a work of art, also kissland. ❤️ thanks for the cool video lol
I have no clue what he's talking about but this so satisfying
I need a gif of you making the "vocal chords coming together" gesture
Agree he mixes very well its like a hybrid falsetto
please listen to his kiss land album especially adaptation and you’ll love him more
