    One of the best entries of 1993.

    I get why this entry always gets overlooked, even though the performance could easily be seen as a standout. There was, as many of you know, a lot of turmoil in the other two debuting countries that year, Bosnia and Croatia. Slovenia's colourful entry heavily contrasted the war-related submissions of the fellow Yugoslav republics, and I can't blame anyone for putting all the attention on Bosnia, because their entry was very clearly a reflection of the horrid situation in that country and the desperation of its citizens. That's an obvious reason why this entry is mostly forgotten or left out of Eurovision compilations.
    What I love about this entry and this edition is what I love about Eurovision. 1993 had great ballads, great uptempo songs, and entries like this. They dressed in arguably the most colourful attire of 1990s Eurovision. A scruffy, guitar-playing Slovenian man is having the time of his life. Extensive hip shaking, awkward face shots, _those_ backing vocalists, all of it broadcast live in front of at least 300 million people. You could say that this performance was peak Eurovision.
    Nevertheless, I think this was a great debut, which, alongside shared placeholders Denmark, shouldn't have led to relegation. Even more so considering that this was an unknown band (hence their name, X means unknown in math) which barely even made it to Slovenia's national selection, but still managed to win the pre-selection, as well as the Eastern European qualification round which determined the countries that were allowed to enter the 1993 contest.
    Shoutout to Jože Privšek, the first conductor of both Yugoslavia and Slovenia in Eurovision, who provided an excellent arrangement for this song.

    This was one of the best Eurovision entries ever, so melodic and beautiful string and horn arrangements. Great lead vocals and catchy back-up harmonies. Of all the years, this was my most surprising and disappointing result.

      @@xxxxxxxx8634 To me those songs are very typical pompous ballads for ESC which we hear every year. Very unoriginal, dated and boring. I don't like the voice of Darja either. Those kind of pompous ballads are what I like the least in ESC, when it comes to music styles. Better with something fresh and original

    If today's artistes could see some of these songs they might learn something
    It's meant to be a SONG contest to symbolize harmony between European nations. It's not a glam fest,over hyped,overproduced acrobatic circus.....but sadly that is what it has become. Not to mention that various causes have captured it to use as a platform for politics and social reform. There are hundreds of other arenas in which to do that. Leave Eurovision alone and let's get back to the real spirit of what should be the song contest.

      Since it is something you both listen and watch, what you watch also matters besides a good voice. That comment is too dramatic

    Guitar, drums and keyborads as usual were on tape
    Only strings and trumpets play live

    • @escLIVEmusic1
      @escLIVEmusic1  Před 6 lety +14

      This is a very extensive orchestral arrangement. There are strings, trumpets, trombones, french horns and woods winds instruments including flute. It's a wonderful arrengement if you ask me, which shows us what kind of flavours the live orchestra can add to a pop song. You are correct that the rythmic part were on the tape for this particular song, but it's certainly no common rule as you seem to claim. For the 1993 edition the songs from Cyprus, Norway, Spain, Finland, Ireland, France, Sweden, Austria, Malta, Switzerland and Denmark used the rythm players of the RTE orchestra (which means no tape at all)

    • @spannamatronic
      @spannamatronic Před 2 lety +1

      @@escLIVEmusic1 I agree, this song is an excellent example of how to use an orchestra and backing track together. Artists have the confidence that the rhythm section will be exactly as they know it, and the orchestra can enhance the rest.
