Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. Jesus christ, how hard was it to use a regular sized Rathalos and Rathian as the antagonists, they are intelligent enough to hold grudges.
Black Diablos is fine though they're relatively simple and supposed to be foul tempered like an elephant in musth when in heat.
What about a Valstrax? They'd probably never even be able to get a single shot on it cause it's so fast

When it was the trophy wife and the paper cutouts...against the terribly portrayed monsters from carnivorous Diablos to horror trope Nerscylla from The Mist...can't say anyone can root for either side...even Rathalos gets portrayed as a mindless monster

You say that and that maybe the case for lesser dragons, monsters, and wyverns but an actual rathalos or any elder dragon from the series has been known for doing attacks such as manipulating weather. Calling meteors, causing overall plauge like attacks and EMP attacks (amagatsuchi, ibushi, and Narwa) good luxk using modern weapons on those things using a nuke isnt advised either

You are saying this because you haven't played the game . A rathalos is almost invincible . The only weak point is when it prepares for heat breath .
The greatest insult for Rathalos is getting slain with a slinger torch shot.. unbelievably stupid.
ok Lady, the proper way of hunting Rathalos is 1) grab a greatsword with dragon damage 2) use flash shot to bring him down 3) CUT THE TAIL 4) Break his face 5) use flash shot again and kill him. then loot. go back to the main hub and get back to hunt him again till you get rahalos gem....... I play too much Monster hunter.
If you want to go for the head use a hammer

@@ashkboos1000 if we you come across someone with a hammer on a hunt let them go for the head and you go for the tail that way you both do not damage.
Huh, I would've gone with
1. Flash bomb
2. Shock Trap
3. Cut off tail
4. Break face
5. Break wings
6. Flash bombs and fall traps until death
You get more rewards from capturing it with a pitfall/lighting trap and 2 tranq bombs. Dont forget to make sure its limping first tho.
Looks like those soldiers forgot to eat a meal and pack the health potions before starting the quest

Also she didn't need to stick that flare in the fire to light it, there is a trigger on it for that.

@Adis Traction The thing she lights in the fire is a flare she got off the chopper.
I get that they ignited its own weapon inside of it to kill it, but the tracer rounds that the soldiers were firing would have done the same thing after the regular minigun rounds cut the holes.
The sheer force and speed of those mounted guns should have tore through it...find some other excuse for modern weapons to be ineffective. Run out of ammo, or let them be destroyed in an ambush. That first Diablos and this Rathalos should have been torn to shreds.

@@Calekoflight no..rathalos & diablos skins are tough & hard as heck, you'll need weapons from materials from MH's world that are able to damage their metallic skins
Apparently, these soldiers never saw "How to Train Your Dragon". You always go for dragon's wings and tail to limit their mobility. Ancient vikings knew this. And yet, these modern soldiers went for the hard body.
You go for the rail and wings to limit mobility so it’s easier to target the vitals, still gotta go for those body shots to get the finato.
Ancient Vikings? What Vikings? Dragons don’t exist, so I don’t know where they’d get that knowledge. It wouldn’t matter about the tail since rathalos doesn’t need it to aid in flight

I love how they treated the monsters as actual creatures. Each monster has to have a weakness if it was in real life, also the proportions were excellent.
Bro this Rathalos is way too big, it is a crime to the lore that this thing is now Fatalis/Safi sized and overly aggressive and purely a physical force.
In canon they're supposed to be equivalent to tigers or lions, intelligent apex predators of their ecosystems, not elder dragons, a regular goliath of the world.
Even in game Monster Hunter pays attention to logic, you can only beat them either by focusing certain weak points and betting skill against brawn slowly chipping away.
This movie just uses guns and explosions for everything.
Its a deservice to the game and I hope they make a better one someday but with this tainting the brand its gonna take years

Can't have it both ways. Either the .50 cals on the buggies & the 20 mm cannons on the V-22s are doing serious damage, or those arrows w/ dynamite ain't doing much. Obviously, her in-the-mouth shot is different. But that didn't kill it, did it?
A Sword and Shield main just block what you can, use your wirebug for damage (or to get out of there), and call for help from your palamute (or palico) for quick transoport and a free air attack or to utilize palico's healing abilities

Based on that rathalos size, I would guess it’s either a dreadking or apex. That could explain why they weren’t strong enough to fight it. I mean look at the size of that thing.

Pretty much a routine Osprey landing.
I remember when I was watching my brother take on one of these and he beat it when I thought it got the best of him.
I like this kind of Monster Hunter movie because I see this movie as a perfect opportunity for people from two different worlds and other creatures like palicos, Wyverians etc. to meet each other and learn their way of living for the first time. I’ve always been a huge fan of crossovers ever since I learned about it.

In the games, it isn't interested in humans at all. Sure they caused some trouble because of territory reasons, but Rathalos preys on much larger kind of animals. And more often than not, they're not intelligent enough until they turn deviant.
This movie picks the poster boy monster, make it special, even though it isn't, and call it a day.

Are all films just a group of the same scenes from other films in the genre these days? I was half expecting a long range bomber or battleship to move right next to the monster to attack it so it could be taken out by the monster instead of using range.
Rathalos: (after taking out one of the plane/helicopter transports) I was aiming for the other one.

An actual Rathalos would fly much more, and they attack MUCH faster, and would most likely call for his Rathian mate if things became too much for him. And in the actual games, it's much more common to see a Rathian in a desert area.
I really don't like the movie so I don't want to defend it but there wouldn't be a Rathian in this situation if I remember correctly, this fight takes place in the regular human world where monsters don't exist, Rathalos just got through the portal with the MC, Rathian is back in the other world.
Imagine the awesomeness if this movie used both raths, fighting as some fearsome power couple.

Probably one of the only good parts of the movie imo. Don't like how they killed him though, could've been more like when you're playing the game and you use a super powerful move like a charged slash from a GS or the Elemental Discharge/Zero Sum Discharge from the SA.
Just for a little fun I tried killing a Rathalos with normal Blast Coated arrow shots, it did not really feel as satisfying as I thought it might.

This is what i wanted to say. The CGI is a so awful for a movie that came out on 2020. Too many cuts and jumps and the characters feels so detached from the whole world. I guess they just went full VFX and CGI, rather than mixing it with several practical effects.. honest to say, im not impressed with the CG

The title is a lie Artemis doesn’t defeat Rathalos, it was the hunter.
But Artemis weakened / wounded the Rathalos, the hunter brought it to an end and dealt him the coup de grace.
So to speak, they both defeated the Rathalos together.
Perfect Teamwork.
