  • We visited Norway to explore parkrunworld and to take advantage of Norway's extra day parkrun - Labour Day. Rather than run two parkruns in Oslo we took the opportunity to see some of Norway's spectacular scenery. We took the 7.5 hour train journey from Oslo to Bergen as it is said to be one of the most scenic train journeys in the world!
The train journey did not disappoint! We particularly enjoyed seeing where the snowy scenes in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back were filmed and the incredible scenery took our breath away. There's not many 7.5 hour train journeys that you can't wait to do again!
Løvstien parkrun, Bergen, is extremely hilly! A double out-and-back with what I think is one of the best parkrun start/finish locations in parkrunworld. The views looking out over Bergen are just spectacular! Run Director Alan made us all feel so very welcome, and we set a new attendance record for the event which was lovely. You could tell that the locals are very proud of their stunning parkrun and really enjoyed having visitors to show it off to which added to the atmosphere.
I can't thank Alan and his team enough for a wonderful morning. We enjoyed visiting Norway so much and without parkrun we might not have had the opportunity to meet these fantastic communities. parkrun really is the best way to travel!
    Happy running,
    Nicola :)

I love the relationship you have with poppy, it’s adorable. I have 2 similar aged girls and I’m in a similar single parent situation and seeing your videos really gives me reassurance that taking them to park run is the right thing for the 3 of us - poppy is growing up with a true role model x

That train journey was awesome, both the train itself and the views. It was also noticeable how clean Norway looks. Tusen takk for sharing the video with us :)

Wonderful video Nicola, it’s been on my bucket list for years to do a Scandinavian winter rail journey for years. One day I will do t. Your rail journey looked absolutely fantastic. And you’re right, no park run is going to top this.

Another great video, Nicola, I must go back to Bergen & do Løvstien parkrun. If you want to tie in another parkrun with a breathtaking train journey I would suggest taking the train over the St Gotthard Pass to Milan. The train does loop the loop in at few places. Be careful not to book a train through the recently built St Gotthard Base Tunnel or you won’t see anything as it goes right under the mountains.
