This game is fantastic and while I'm a bit sad that I blasted through it to get this video out I'm looking forward to replaying a few more times. I can see myself in a couple years getting the itch to fire it back on maybe mod in some extra songs and just skate for the fun of it. Let me know if you're picking it up!

I don't think people who didn't experience JSRF and the music will ever understand how important this game and its music is to those of us who are such fans for all these years. That is until they play and experience for themselves.

@@Pinoy.I don’t remember much of when I was younger but I remember clearly coming home and my dad showing me he bought an Xbox and was showing me jsrf… the smells of freshly unboxed tech and the smell of a fresh xbox weird i know but there’s a specific smell that’s tied to that memory. My dad got me blinx as well but I only straight up played jsrf. 😂

my favorite is when you unlock that area in mataan where the oldhead calls it nostalgic and it looks exactly like 99th st. Another one is right at the end when it says “rock that shit” in yellow alluding to jet set radio’s ending when “rock it on” plays. the subtile references in this game are so dope
You don't know how happy I am to be alive to play a spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio. I was 15 when JSRF-one of my favorite games of all time-came out, and now I'm in my mid-30s, still thirsty for another game like it.
All my gamer friends didn't understand the appeal-as well as the concept of love-of those games, and I have felt utterly alone in my predilection with the series. But once BRC was announced, I saw just how many gamers like me were excited to get what we've all been waiting for for 2 decades!
I'm so glad Team Reptile made what SEGA wouldn't!

Its very rare for me to get an overview of a new area and go “i wanna do that”. Ive been conditioned to just want to get through an area to continue the story. But this is one of those rare games where i see the area and i see a Graffiti spot waaaaay up high and im like “oh well i gotta tag that now!”. Or i see those robots you gotta hit in a combo and i say “sure lets hit this trick.” In the 6 hours ive played it i have learned so much of how to navigate the world and it is satisfying.
Great way to put it. This game is just so incredibly fun and addicting in a way I haven't felt in a long time
When I was enlisted, someone told me that JSRF looked stupid when they saw me playing it emulated onto my PC. A literal fistfight ensued because of his comments. He eventually tried it and also loves it now.
Video essays about how great a game is is awesome, but videos like these about how much they mean to you personally and shape your experiences is so special. So happy we finally have the successor to jet set radio we deserved 🙌❤️
This is why I will forever have so much love for small/indie game studios. They've shown that they care more about the gaming community than most of these major game studios.
I'm so happy and really amazed that we got two 'Jet Set Radio' based games. Butterflies being here first but not so quality (made by some few fellas) and BRC with big publicity and quality. This year for Jet Set Radio games feels like that meme where we get two cakes, despite the one looking better than the other.
Whoa...I came to CZcams just looking for some gameplay of BRCF but I did not expect to find a review with such passion 😄 The way you connected the games with your own life for this video was awesome. I never played JSR myself but I can totally relate to the experience of liking something that is considered "weird" or "nerdy" by your peers...reminded me of myself in middle/high school. If I could go back in time I would tell my younger self to just embrace more of the things I was personally interested in instead of trying to do what was considered "cool" at the time. Keep up the good work man.

There was a moment while I was playing this game where I was just stoned, skating around, listening to the music when I realized there was a huge shit eating grin on my face and my eyes were starting to water. And I immediately realized "oh, this is childhood."
Now I am sitting here debating with myself if gaming has just slowly let me down since the early 2000's or if it's just me being a jaded old man and not being able to enjoy things like I used to as a young, little awkward shit.
i didn’t know anything about this game until literally 7 hours ago when i got recommended GET ENUF on here and recognized hideki naganuma’s name in the title. i got 2 minutes into the song before dropping whatever i was doing at the moment and buying the game AND the soundtrack as fast as i could. i’m only a few hours into the game, but it’s been a total blast and i’m stoked as hell to get deeper and to see this game blow up online. what a fantastic funkin game, its awesome to see others share their love of it.

As someone who only played Jet Set Radio as a kid and never got to fully delve into Future until a few weeks before BRC came out... My love and history with the series made booting this game up and losing HOURS of time enjoying the world that much more worth it.
I have since gone back and played almost all of JSRF and will say both of these games rank VERY high in my list of games. This video got me in the feels since I used to love the ost to JSR but didn't know who I could gush about it to so... Thanks for making this video so I didn't feel like the only one in a similar situation :3

yup 4 hrs in and i'm having a fucking blast. i waited for 3 years to play this, and even more to play a sequel to jsr concepts, and brc delivered more than i wanted so far (cuz goddman i played both games way out of time 10 years after release but even than i loved them) Btw the script writing was top notch, could totally read 1000 pages of something you wrote for how well you describe stuff and go for one point to the next.
edit: finished, and still can't stop playing it. on my third playthrough, and i can't put it down. certainly my 2023 goty.

It would be cool for them to connect their games like have lethal league be part of the world in bomb rush cyber funk 2 and maybe even work a deal with sega to have some cameos of the GGs from the jet set crew post JSRF to join in on the fun. Maybe make the bosses as complex as the final boss or even take some ideas from the world ends with you neo. Maybe add some clothes and fashion to the mix instead of just color changes being able to change clothes and parts on your skates, bike, and skateboard like in tony hawks pro skater 1+2.
Yeah so much they can do for the 2nd game but OUTSTANDING JOB they did on the first game this is one for the history books #Legendary #BRCFOREVER
i love this video so much. ive never heard of jet set radio before you talked about it on stream in like 2018 or something, but im so so so excited to try bomb rush cyberfunk. your enthusiasm makes me feel like im a fan of these games even tho ive barely heard anything about them let alone played them. just gotta save up a bit of money and ill get everybody's brainrot as well(probably)
They're such weird 3D platformers in a good way. Even though I prefer rpgs most of the time the raw gameplay and general vibe of a jsr game is hard to not have fun with

Unfortunately my financial situation is really bad so I have way less time to put the effort I want to in these videos and instead rely on the admittedly bad scripts I write.
I think Tim is a genius and his videos made me realize I can tell the life stories I have in a meaningful way that's also comedic. I think the persona 5 royal review I did is a good example of something that represents the kind of content I WANT to make, but with a script that flows as well as this video did.

this game goes to show that art style is a huge part of what makes some video games stand out, does this game look like it is made in roblox? yeah but does that matter? hell no I would even say that this game looks gorgeous! not every game needs to be 'like in real life' honestly I am sick and tired of realistic looking games and I am tired pretending I am not. nothing wrong with realistic games but this game goes to show you how a different art direction can keep a lasting impression and hook people way easier because it was memorable compared to generic new game 5890 with 'new improved top of the line graphics and almost real animation it is almost as in real life' O you mean the real life I am trying to escape with playing video games? that real life? idk man game looks amazing and I hope games like these keep coming to off set the generic games I keep seeing everywhere
Never played jet set radio. I wasn't around for that. But when i saw the teaser for BRC and having already listened to most of the funky uncle's music, i fell in love with what i saw and the music. Wish i was there to experience jet set radio.

Usually in reviews I really dislike personal tangents but with jet set radio, there's no way you can't, it's such a big part of my life I had to keep quiet too, I never really went though the phase of hating what I really loved, because I always kept it to myself and never shared what games/music/Tv and anime I loved and still love, now as an adult, I'm even showing my boss this game in hopes someone'll love it like I loved JSRF
Based in every single possible way. JSR was also important to my childhood. I had no one to share that love with at the time. But I'm so glad we have another skating/artistic kino!
I'm so happy to see Bomb Rush be so greatly liked. JSRF was my childhood and i loved playing through it all the time. I felt so weird being one of the only kids in my school that liked the game.

With you mentioning jetset radio from a stream months ago, I finally tried the dreamcast one just a few weeks back. And boy I love it alright. Thanks to emulation, since I don't have the system or a pc for it. Just on my potato phone. And I dream of playing JRSF once I'm able to and Bomb rush is a must play. This is for sure game of the year contender. I feel its gonna fill the same spot SIFU did last year which i felt how you feel about this game. Absolver was my fucking baby and to see it wasted was so sad. SIFU filled me with all the hopes and dreams i wanted.
this game was worth the wait!!! I have some small gripes with the game, its length, some 'quality of life' stuff, the usual right? but stylewise? HOT DAMN did they nail it! I'm just missing the DJ talking the tracks together, I'm off to play some more now, keep it funky my fellow rudies!

My first exposure to jet set radio was from sonic and sega all stars racing. I always played on the jet set radio track and i would listen to the music while playing and always was bopping my head to it. I remember seeing beat as the representative for jet set radio and thought his design was clean. As I started unlocking a bunch of songs in the game I listened to the jet set radio music through the jukebox or whatever it was called to listen to the music in the sonic and sega all stars racing. Time and time again I always kept dancing to the music and couldnt stop for nearly an hour. (I was playing sonic and sega all stars racing because i was and still obsessed with sonic as my favorite franchise with jet set radio definitely behind it) Later on in life I would look up jet set radio gameplay on youtube and come across a youtuber named ka6scope and though i don't remember much since its been nearly a decade since i last watched it but remembered the feeling of laughing while watching. I definitely remember this one bit throughout the walkthrough of jet set radio future he would always say DAMN ITS POISON JAM and it was hilarious. While watching the gameplay though I was always amazed by the tricks being done on screen. The characters designs were all so cool especially yo-yo who was my favorite. I loved yo-yo and his voiceover and the sounds he made while doing the most insane tricks i ever saw at the time. His "HAHA" everytime he grinds sounded like it was put through autotune and for some reason liked hearing it a lot. I loved it when he would say YEEHAW doing air tricks. I got so obsessed with yo-yo to the point where i wanted to cosplay him. Further down the line i finally got my hands on the first jet set radio hd remaster on the ps3 and though it wasnt as cool as the jsrf i had a lot of fun and the game still was as cool as the sequel. I loved the game and obsessed over jet set radio for years. So as i got deep into jet set radio and was getting into anime at the time I was hoping at any point in your BRC related videos you would mention Air Gear. This anime instantly became my top 3 due to the jet set radio homages with the skates and the hideki naganuma tracks for the anime. i could go on a rant on and on about that anime. i have yet to read the manga though. after a while i stopped following jet set radio due to knowing sega isnt gonna touch the ip ever again. years pass and i hear of lethal league i dont remember who or what showed me it but i remember hearing about it and seeing those cell shaded graphics and instantly thinking of jsr. at the time i listened to a few tracks from the game and watched gameplay and that was it. years later lethal league blaze would come out and i saw hideki made some tracks for it and i would purchase it and had some fun playing it. i didnt have much memorable moments playing it though. months go by and i see that bomb rush cyberfunk trailer and see that they're continuing what jet set radio was doing and i instantly hyped for it. coming to present day and i have had it since day one and i bombed all of the locations. i know i typed a bunch and i cant convey much of my passion of jsr and brc through text and i should just probably make a video about it because i have way too many things i want to say about these franchises. also this is being typed at like 4am so i know i definitely rambled on too much and misspelled a bunch of stuff and punctuated this horribly but i am glad you are able to be open about jet set radio again due to BRC.
Half those kids are now thinking otherwise in their 20s and 30s about how delicious a culture's dish can be. They have been wrong this whole time. Food makes friends.

Funny the same thing happened to me, but I was the kid that hung out at your house. A friend went to a friends house to play Halo, saw that he had JSRF, and was like what's that? He put it in and let me play it. Fell in love with it so much, my friend said "Hey man, I've already beat it. I need an extra con for Halo MP, so trade it to me for a cheap Madcatz con and you can have it." I still have it on my shelf to this day.

I ADORE the addition of bmx and skateboarding. Infact I’ve barely touched the skates. This game is one of my personal top 5 of all time and I’ve not even finished it yet. This is gonna be my new unwind game. Just switch it on for a few before bed and get a fun combo going

Jet Grind Radio and Jet Set Radio Future were some of my all time favorite games. The amount of love that and authenticity that is Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a labor of love and respect in everyway, while also advancing the series in a great direction. And the soundtrack lives up to the legacy. To know that people never tried or hate this kind of game disheartens me, but I hope morr people get to try it out. Its such a wonderful experience of a game.

I also had Adobo before for lunch in elementary school here in the UK and received weird looks from all the British kids. Its lowkey traumatizing to get bullied or get weird looks for eating Asian dishes that are too exotic visually and taste wise for westerners (Especially if the food is brown, or if its a seafood dish, has soy sauce or vinegar or fish sauce in it). The embarrassment I felt as a child made me switch and endure typical white people food instead (just like in Fresh Off The Boat) e.g. dry, bland ass Lunchables

Your tale is tragic, in my case some friends and I got a dreamcast in 2009, wonder what games could be cool to burn and someone recalled watching trailers for jet set radio, what happened afterwards is that the game became an icon in my city, monterrey mexico.
I'm fairly sure that If I had played Jet Set Radio when I was a kid (which is a shame since I happened to own a Dreamcast back in the day) I would feel Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is a magical game. That being said as someone who didn't play JSR nor the sequel, I am enjoying my time with BRC andI think it's a really great game on its own.

Huh, your adobo looks much different then the ones my family make. Ours is pretty much just onions and pork or chicken in a brighter (admittedly oily) sauce and then topped over rice.

A fair bit older than you when I first encountered JSR/JSRF but you encapsulatedthe vibe so well - discovery, music, etc - and the lead up to BRC too. Team Reptile rawk and they’ve been building up to this for years. Have my “very slight” issues with BRC but it’s JSR 3 goes to Europe, as a European, I’m down with that! It's weird hearing there was such a negative reaction to you using the JSRF soundtrack in a vid as, tbh, the soundtrack was how I myself got into the series.
The first time I heard of the series was seeing the Future version of Beat in Sonic and SEGA All Stars Racing, loving his style and aesthetic as well as falling in love with the Tokyo-To tracks and the songs selected from the series, Funky Dealer and Concept of Love being personal favorites.
It was from there I looked more into the series and found and played Jet Set Radio HD on my old iPod Touch, loving the game as much as the touch controls felt like ass (later replayed and 100%'d the game on Steam, was a much more enjoyable experience), and was disappointed Future never got a re-release. Did however recently start playing it on an emulator, since Xbox emulators have gotten to the point that they can run the game now.
This also led to me following Naganuma everywhere I could, including being blown away that he made the Sonic Rush soundtrack as I already loved songs like Wrapped in Black, Jeh Jeh Rocket, and What U Need. It's what led to me getting Hover, as well as buying songs like Feel the POWER in your SOUL and Ain't Nothing Like a Funky Beat from iTunes despite never playing War of Brains or Lethal League.
With all this, BRC was like the perfect storm for me. A JSRF-like game I could play natively on my system, with music from Naganuma? Needless to say I was excited from day 1, and now that it is out I have 100%'d it almost (just missing a few music disks, possibly some new graffiti, but I've tagged every spot, earned every achievement, and unlocked all characters known atm), and loved every second of it.
And all of this started for me because I heard some of Naganuma's tracks in the funny SEGA crossover racing game.
Also no I didn't really play Beat much despite liking his style, Alex Kidd was just too OP in the OG All Star Racing and in Transformed I'm often repping my boy Metal Sonic.
