    One of the most interesting mavericks of British political history, no filter, no hesitation, he said what he though, you may not have liked him for it & I will say I passionately disagree with a lot of what Enoch stood for, but even I will admit, that quality of speaking what you think is something that I respect & something that I wish more politicians today would do rather than just being lackies & yes-men

    If we had politicians like Enoch today the country would not be in the mess it is, unfortunately the gutless wonders and nodding dogs that currently occupy the political spectrum do little if anything to improve life in a country which has declined to a point of no return.

    The notion that increased money supply causes inflation has kind of been shattered by quantitative easing and the monstrous debts of the US. This "over supply" of money has not caused the inflation that Powell and Thatcher had anticipated. Thatcher's monetarist policies may be attributed to killing off British industry prematurely.

    • @tsar1547
      @tsar1547 Před 3 lety +4

      The global dominance of the US affords it massive flexibility in areas like monetary policy. The governments of small/medium sized countries do not have the same freedom. The inflationary policies pursued in countries like Argentina are hardly different from those adopted in the US, the difference being the US avoids the more obvious negative side effects. But even then the dollar continues to lose its value with every passing decade, which contributes greatly to the ever increasing cost of living and the absolutely ludicrous state of the housing market. A strong and stable currency is critical for a meaningful minimum wage and a healthy property market.

      Quantitative easing is printing money and this causes the inflation we now see.

      Their arrangement with the Saudis, that oil can only be bought in dollars, artificially creates demand for dollars which dampens the effects of inflation.
      All central banks must hold dollars to buy oil for their economies to function
